Okay Prehnite — I see you. I’ve been super drawn to this stone lately, there is something about it that just makes my chest swell with nostalgia. Growing up on the beach, we would always frequent the bayside to take a dip at the end of a long summer day. My dad would close up the gallery and grab his beach chair and take my brother and I to the beach for a quick dip. This stone brings me right back there. Running into that cold salty water, when you dunk below the surface of the water and open your eyes and you see a whole new hidden world of rich cloudy green seaweed and hermit crabs floating all over. This stone is like a little window into that underwater world. Prehnite is a stone for dreaming and remembering (go figure!) Cape Cod Memory Jar, Linnell Landing. Years ago when my sons were younger, we took a family trip to Cape Cod. Had a wonderful whale watch out of Provincetown with the @coastalstudiesptown out to the Stellwagen Bank. It's between #capecod & Cape Ann in the Gulf of Maine. I encourage you to Google that! Not sure if they still do these tours but they've been doing research & education since 1976 🙌 👋 ! We saw lots of whales, both in number and variety. Many they knew by name, identifying them by their flukes. Not only did we see whales feeding and spy hopping, but we saw 2 breeches! For this #whalelover it could not have been better. Loving what they do at #centerforcoastalstudies #provincetownma Another fun memory is captured in this antique jar. We had heard that the tide goes way out off Linnell Landing in Brewster on the cape. AND that you could find lots of old weathered scallop shells sooo we checked the tide chart and off we went! It's on the #capecodbay side of the cape, off the historical #kingshighway .The tide was so low, out at least a mile filled will glorious puddles and tiny tidal pools so with our netted bags in hand, off we go. It was so safe, a perfect place for little boys to get their explorer on. And for this momma too. I was in low tide heaven. Only issue, we weren't seeing any scallops. At one point my youngest sat down and began digging. It's what boys do right? Unknown to us until this point was they they are just beneath a few inches of sand! We hit honey hole after honey hole! When I look at this jar, it takes me back to that care free day on the cape and the excitement we all had when he hit the motherload of scallops. They are beautiful textured varied shades of gray, charcoal, taupe & brown. It's like a beach party in a jar! SWIPE for some glamour shots of the variety! From my personal #seashellcollection , Sunday SEASHELL Views...a little grouping of the biggest shells I've found, with the biggest one being the horse conch on the right that still has the dried periostracum (skin) on outside. He measures ,12" by 6". I could clean him but why? Love his rustic state. He was found almost completely buried in 4 feet of water off Sanibel. Only his rounded knobs were partially peeking out of sand. Felt that portion with my feet and it took me about 30 minutes of diving under over and over to dig out! #onamission #besttherapyever The horse conch on the left was also found off Sanibel at Turner's Point at the Blind's Pass section where Sanibel meets Captiva. Luckily, it was laying turned up with some sand in it, but not buried, also in 4 feet of water. My INSPO: I remember the first time I visited Brewster, Mass on Cape Cod. Being a lover of the sea, whales, and old ships, I found this little sea captain's town, officially incorporated in 1803, charmingly romantic. Located on the old King's Highway, route 6A, on the Cape Cod Bay side of the cape, it's rambling coastal hugging roads with glimpses of the sea & marshes plus great old houses.....well, built by wealthy sea captain's...Need I say more? Many of these houses are now #newenglandlinns . It was named after William Brewster, the Pilgrim's first religious leader and first settled in 1656. One of it's fascinating spots is Linnell Landing Beach. At low tide, the tide goes out about a mile. For this beachcombing addict, I could wander on those tidal flats for days if given the opportunity. I chose to paint this antique style #tradesign on #reclaimedcypress that comes out of the water , just as prestine as the day it went in. Seemed fitting for a #brewsterma #handpaintedsign entitled "Ode to Brewster" , a town so connected to water, past and present. I modeled the #whale after an #oldwhale I have that was made from tin that came out of #newengland . #capecod & #nantucket were known for #whaling but thankfully now the connection to #whales is reasearch at the #centerforcoastalstudies at #provincetown and the best #whalewatching trip I've ever been on.
