#Latepost but here is a look at “Untitled”, currently spearheading the Saks exhibition. Made in early 2024 specifically for the event, this #abstractwork records a multitude of ideas spread out on an expansive, 48x60 inch canvas. Ideas that sprouted nonstop, were edited, fought with each other for attention and either survived or died on a multicolored battlefield. A summary of my thought process, a synesthetic scratchpad and probably the best introduction to the space. It is my plan to record anything, as long as it’s intense. haven’t done one of these in a while; the week 16 theme of #52weeksofhome is “color”, and since i’m currently working in the basement, here’s a little basement color. most of the house’s current colors are pretty drab, but over the years the house has been painted, brick and all, inside and out, quite a bit. this is a chunk of the basement wall plaster, which was top-coated 100+ years ago with a “granitoid finish”, essentially a spreadable mix of granite dust, cement, and water. that’s the red color, and what makes these plaster chunks stupid heavy (and, the reason i haven’t gotten them all in a dumpster - they suck to carry so i only throw out a few at a time). then there’s the paint…green, a blue/turquoise, beige, and who knows what else. i don’t have any idea what color(s) i may put on the inside of the house someday, but right now i gotta get back to my little world of mortar and limestone greys. #stl #stlouis #rehab #houserehab #houserenovation #renovation #oldhouse #oldhouselove #oldhousecharm #architecturaldetail #citylife #urbanhomesteadrehab #historicpreservation #historichomes #historichouse #madeinstl #plaster #paint #color #52weeksofhomeweek16x24

got the bottom and sides of the window jamb out, upper jamb temporarily braced, and one side of the window’s limestone cleaned out. these foundation walls are essentially 2 big stones thick, and the space between them was filled with mortar and off cuts from the big stone (sometimes cut to fit, sometimes cut to square up an exposed face to make it pretty). it was a solid enough method…unless water infiltrates the wall, as is the case around all the basement windows; the mortar in that interior section just disintegrates. there really wasn’t a whole lot of mortar left behind the window jamb, and the small stones were just laying in a loose pile…but i can fix that. 😏💪🏼 #stl #stlouis #rehab #houserehab #houserenovation #renovation #oldhouse #oldhouselove #oldhousecharm #architecturaldetail #citylife #urbanhomesteadrehab #historicpreservation #historichomes #historichouse #madeinstl #repointing #limestone #stonefoundation #woodwindows

starting the process of very carefully deconstructing the window jamb. i’d love to pull the whole thing out and replace it but the mortar in the brick joints immediately above the window, on the interior where i really have no access due to floor framing, is trash. because the bricks rest on the upper, arched portion of the jamb, if i take it out i’m afraid the bricks would come with it. so the plan is to leave it, brace it temporarily, and then remove the sides and bottom of the jamb. the brick mould is only a separate piece on the upper jamb, so i popped it off just to feel like i’d accomplished a little something. the old nails i uncovered mean it’s original to the house, and removing it revealed a tube from an old electrical system. that was the easy part; the rest is gonna be a combo effort of engineering and hope. #stl #stlouis #rehab #houserehab #houserenovation #renovation #oldhouse #oldhouselove #oldhousecharm #architecturaldetail #citylife #urbanhomesteadrehab #historicpreservation #historichomes #historichouse #madeinstl #repointing #limestone #stonefoundation #woodwindows
Spring mon furoshiki set is ready for the Earth Day Festival! We'll be at Forest Park all weekend. The furoshiki are approximately 20" square and great for wrapping books, bento, and smaller items. You can also use it as a bag for your day to day items. Image description: Four pastel colored furoshiki are arranged overlapping each other showing the corner decoration on each, consisting of a mon printed three times in a triangle formation. From the top to bottom: green with an azalea emblem, blue with hollyhock leaves, pink with cherry blossoms. And purple with wisteria vines. Reel ID: A dark green furoshiki with pine mons is folding and sitting in the center of the screen. A pair of light skinned hands enters the shot and unfolds the furoshiki and demonstrates tying the corners together to make handles. The furoshiki is lifted up by the handles to show a top view. It is placed back onto the table and filled with a wallet, phones, and set of keys. It is again lifted up with the contents in the bag. From the side opening the keys, phone, and wallet are removed. Then the corners are untied and the furoshiki is folded back up.
