Black jeans, baby! This is my 5th iteration of the marvellous #helenejeans pattern by @annaallenclothing From the original pattern, I can’t say precisely what size these are b/c they’ve been hacked this way and that after each make to accommodate whatever fit or silhouette I’m envisioning, but rough guess is they approximate a size 4. I was aiming to dupe the Levi’s Wedgie Straight Jeans (only with a lower rise), and feel like I got satisfactorily close! These’ll be well used and well loved, for sure. Mods include: - Dropped the waist by 2+” - Made wb bigger b/c of the lower rise (body = more width as you go down toward hips) - Curved wb b/c that fits me best! Less gaping around back that way. - Front rise is probably 1” lower than back rise because I need more room in back. - Back pockets moved in by 1/2” and up by 1/2” - Yoke 1/2” shorter in height, and main pant 1/2” taller (to make room for pockets to be a bit higher The fabric I used was black bull denim, generously gifted to me from @iseefabric as part of our collab. It’s a nice weight for jeans, but the edges did fray a lot while I was working with it. Not sure what that means, tbh, but I will say that the finished pants feel solid and like they will wear and last well, which is important to me. I’ve worn them twice and they’ve stretched an “ordinary” amount for a denim, but not a lot. Pretty stoked about this make! The top is the #pennypullover by @smlennox and I love it. Great pattern. Love the high neck for throwing over crewneck tee shirts and avoiding the perennial issue of the tee neck being overly exposed. Woot! Ps. Bum pocket stitching looks like lasers! Haha Pps. Did the trademark heart hidden on the coin pocket. 💓

It was Dress Like a Flowerpot day at church yesterday 💐 (very unofficial but I still celebrated 😉) • This #peppermintpocketskirt is the everyday but knows how to get dressed up skirt that I needed in my wardrobe. I cut a straight size 18 with the only modification being a pleat in the center of each pocket. Love a good pocket but these were BIG and since I need them to work with my life, I needed the top of the pocket to curve in a bit more to keep my phone, keys, and little boy treasures like rocks and acorns from falling out. I’m apparently on a vest kick? I do hate to be cold and have been attempting to make some mix and match pieces that I can layer over things I already own for added warmth. This one is the result of a Super Fun pattern test: This is the #florajacket - vest version - by @brightsidefabricco made out of thrifted wool and scrappy fabrics for the placket, pocket edges, and binding. I believe the final pattern (to be released in a week or two I believe?) will feature narrower width in general (shoulder/armscye/side seams). This pattern has super cool details and I’d love (!) to try it again some day… perhaps the jacket version with a cool quilt top I thrifted 🤔. Big fan of the contrasting (clashing!) placket!! And the neck. The way the neckband is constructed, you can use a wool (like I did) without any scratchiness directly on your neck 🙌. Fun fact: used 15mm brass snaps. Love them. But while installing I hit my thumb not once, but twice, with a SLEDGEHAMMER 👍. Now sporting a dark purple bruise under part of that nailbed. I added my absolute fave @blackbirdfabrics label for some extra fun. Been saving it for a special project like this!
