I failed right away with photographing my #memademay outfits and didn’t manage to take any photos the last couple of days. My kids got sick and were home from school and I had some difficult news and was not in the mood to be photographed. But today I managed. I’m wearing the #kielowrapdress pattern by @namedclothing in a silky bamboo jersey fabric. This dress is so comfortable and also feels put together. I often wear this dress on holiday but not so much in my day to day and I’ve been enjoying wearing it again. Only complaint I’m wearing leggings underneath and wish the waist band didn’t show.
Day 4. This is a new make! This is my @helens__closet #marchtop It's a loose fitting smock top style with the option to be made as either a dress or top, long or mid length sleeves. I chose the top with long sleeve version. I also added some decorative stitching down the front in a turquoise blue. I made this using a double gauze cotton in navy blue, bought from @poundfabrics I love this style of casual folky shirts. My taste is changing or more accurately, I’m finding my style as I’ve been sewing. I haven’t felt comfortable in this dress in a long time and I recently made another version but lengthened the skirt to suit my taste better. I like how Zoe (host of #memademay ) is challenging us to fall in love with the items already in our wardrobe. So, I’ve found some white tights and this cardigan and I think this dress is comfortable now. Me Made May day three: a Cheyenne tunic hacked into a dress. This is my favourite dress- I love the colour, the fit and how comfortable it is. I have fabric for another one but haven’t been sewing much so far this year so haven’t made it yet. Pattern: #CheyenneTunic by @heyjunehandmade Made: 2023 Fabric: cotton ikat from @mademywardrobe. This fabric is lovely and soft but has a loose weave and requires care when washing. Size: L Modifications: * I extended the length at the hem, giving a slightly A line shape, but I think I need to go wider at the hip next time. * I reduced the curve on the hem so it’s less swoopy at the centre front and back. * I added in-seam pockets. I should have interfaced the opening as I can see it’s stretching out a little. * With the cuffs, I cut them as per the pattern, but then just attached them in the round and wear them turned up and buttoned with the sleeve tab. * Go I added a belt and a waist channel for the belt. The belt is fabric at the ends and elastic around the back. * I used four smaller buttons on the placket, rather than the two or three suggested.

Wow that’s a lot of me 😅 I love to make repeats of basic staple pieces. Shown here are two @paradisepatterns #sommarcamisole and one @elbe_textiles #weilandtank (scoop neck). All projects made with misc fabric from my stash! I’m loving the sommar cami in a rib knit with jersey straps. I find that using a thick/substantial jersey requires no strap adjustment but if I use a more drapey fabric I do shorten them a tad.

Probably not but since I sew it for my winterholiday to Teneriffe in Jamuary and haven’t posted it since I think it is time now. This time I dared to sew it in real silk! 💚 I really love this dress 💚 and pattern. It is just a perfect slipon with a little bit of glam. It takes absolutely no space in your bag when travelling. Fit and alterations; I choose size E in the front and D in the back and E around the hips and down since I have a bigger bust. I also moved the both straps in the back inward 1,5 cm each to align them over my brastraps and prevent the straps from falling down. Still struggling a bit with the fit. This time around I got it to fit over the bust but the fold over the bust got a bit bigger than I prefer so I think I will have to draw a curve to make the top line a bit narrowed next time. #memademay24 & #seatedmakeschallenge2024 3 May This is the Tessuti Fabrics Milenda Dress. It’s one of the first dresses I sewed after taking over the use of the sewing machine from my daughter. I was given a voucher from my lovely SIL who is a gifted quilt maker so I used part of the voucher to buy this pattern. I loved the pleats in the front but something I regret doing is changing the length of the skirt. This seemed to change the shape of it. It still gets a lot of wear as it’s an easy pull on dress so I’ll be keeping it but I would like to return to sew the original in a different fabric. Size: Made the Size M. MMM24 day 2 - an excellent action shot I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I doubt I'll ever stop saying it - the power of a good maxi dress/the right clothing is incredible. One of the things I like about how I behave during MMM is that I will often prep an outfit the night before, even if the day is going to be very average. Last night I felt shattered, exhausted in my brain and my body, and a bit sad that I knew despite feeling incredibly tired that I wouldn't sleep very well. So before bed I chose this dress, tried it on, fished out the relevant bra to go with it, and hung them both on my wardrobe door. This morning I asked myself out loud if I wanted to wear it, and answered in the affirmative. Reader, it did not disappoint. We all know I'm addicted to making maxi dresses, but if that is because I know that a maxi dress will make me feel good, strong, confident, and improve my day, then is it really so much of a problem that I keep making them? This one gained me two unprompted compliments and allowed me to swish about (still be-legginged underneath sadly) for some pretty cool photos too. Happy @Podgekins pattern launch day, and congratulations to @PaigeJoannaa! Many years before I started sewing garments, when I was first learning to sew, I used to make a lot of dolls and stuffed animals. I always really enjoyed the process of bringing a little character to life, and I especially enjoyed gifting them to children and seeing them loved. ♥️ Because of that, doll making will always have a really special place in my heart. I was so smitten with the Podgekins design when I saw Paige developing it that I practically begged to help test and edit the pattern. 😅 It was my first time testing a pattern, and I have a whole new appreciation for all of the time, thought, and attention to detail that goes into independently developing and launching a home sewing pattern product for sale. I had so much fun making this pattern and even learned some new techniques (hand chain stitching and creating yarn wigs)! A confident beginner sewist could definitely handle it, so whether you're newer to sewing or an experienced sewist, I encourage you to check it out. I can't wait to see all the Podgekins the sewing community brings into the world!

There are many free patterns out there and I am overall surprised that they aren’t so popular on the ig sewing community. This boxy top is free. It’s a fast and simple sew that can be done in half an afternoon from cutting to finishing touches. It features a back curve edge. But you can take it out or move it to the front or what ever you please. This version has no modification and I have had it for a few years. It’s the top of the #peppermintloungewear . I know it's me made may so I will get to that too 🤣 I think I'll do a once a week roundup of my me made outfits. The intention being to find new ways to wear and appreciate my handmades. But for now I'm still catching up on all that I've been working on lately! This has been dubbed the Fruffle Set 😍 my 3 yo saw me sketching out a sweats set and frowned and asked if could add a "fruffle". ALWAYS, my dear. We can always add a fruffle 😜. This was self drafted, I love how it fits and doesn't hug. I don't need negative ease in my comfies. The pants could use a side seam pocket next time ... If I add a side seam. I had to add my signature rear heart pocket. As I was working out what to do with the pants, I landed on this little button strap thing. I love wide legs but sometimes I find myself tripping on them or dragging them, or children landing on them so I wanted an optional feature to cinch them. I was originally thinking of a sort of ballerina ankle tie but it resulted in some ballooning that wasn't working for me. I think this is fun and unique and I actually do use the convertible feature quite often. Yay, #memademay! I had a hard time deciding on a pledge, since I don’t like to put pressure on myself regarding insta-things. But I reread @sozoblog’s posts about the whole idea and now I feel like I’m missing the point if I skip the pledge. So here’s my take on it: I pledge to post 4 outfits every week in May, 2 indoors and 2 outdoors. I pledge to focus my sewing on versatile makes that cater a need in my wardrobe without repeating patterns that I have already used. I pledge not to buy new patterns this month. Now to yesterdays outfit aka my uniform of the coming summer. I made both last year before summer holidays and they are super versatile although I did make both in spontaneous urges. Pattern: Winsome Goods - Marcell Top, size XS - sadly the pattern designer is no longer active but you can still buy the pdf version online. Changes: omitted the split sides, curved hem and the V-neck. widened the armholes on the lower end 1,5cm Fabric: lightweight denim from Recovo Fabrics Annotations: super fast make because I was abled to reuse existing patterns pieces. The whole thing took 2-3 hours (the speedy fraction of the insta-sewing community would have done it in half an hour probably). #memademay day two. Evidently ya gal is having to relearn how to pose/stand for photos with the new body. We’re on a little road trip, 2nd last photo was the car outfit (tank reversed), last photo was a delightful angelic view of the Aussie countryside. I normally wear this #tatatwisttank with the blue/white stripes out (how great are reversible garments) but tonight was feeling especially girly - something about when my hair is untamed & my cowlick curls are playing gets me like this. Anyone else? Evidently I’m running out of length in this tank but I don’t mind the bump peeping out. I’m thinking I’ll make another soon with a slot for cups/breast pads to slide in & maybe some long sleeves for the cooler weather! An expansion for the pattern could be added if there’s interest? Jeans are RTW - I bought them online during my first trimester, completely guessing the size. I’ve seen ‘it’ girls roll down their waistbands on their oversized vintage jeans & as much as I’d like to say this was a stylistic choice, tonight it was a functional choice. Way comfier to wear them this way than wrangling a belt. Trying to not put too much pressure on myself with these daily outfit posts to keep it enjoyable but somehow already feeling like I’m out of outfits. What a fun challenge! Me Made May Day two: A Mabel top worn with RTW dungarees. I love the dramatic sleeves on this top. The pattern had a lot of ease so I removed 5”(!) to get the fit I wanted. If I made it again I would widen the neckline a bit, just for personal preference. Pattern: #fibremoodMabel by @fibremood Made: 2024 Fabric: @mindthemaker wicker knit in green pine Size: large Modifications: * I reduced the sleeve pattern piece by 1.25” at both sides (so reducing circumference by 2.5” total). * I took the bodice (both front and back pieces) in by 1.25” at the side, so reducing the circumference by 2.5” at each side so 5” in total. * I removed 3” of width from each waistband piece, so 6” in total. Height as per the pattern * I reduced the height of the neckband by approx 1cm in total (so 0.5cm when folded)
And the second one - the Otto vest. I was really feeling the bonus version with the straight hem and tie. (I recently made a pointed hem with no tie and trying to have pieces fit different wardrobe gaps.) Black linen was calling to me! So I picked up this more structured fabric from my fav place, @fabricoutlet. It was not necessary to grade between sizes as I did because it’s got a lot of ease. I would probably go one size down if I remake. My fabric was too thick to turn the straps right side out, so I just sewed them up right side out like bias tape. There was no obligation to post but this dress has already been worn and will continue to be in frequent circulation. This dress is designed to be very versatile with lots of options on how to use the ties. It can also be worn with the v neckline or the subtle boatneck. My MMM pledge this year is to review only the dresses in my closet as I want to assess if my favourite item to sew is getting the wear it deserves and if not, I’m challenging myself to think about styling. I’m also trying my “special occasion” items to check if they still fit me. So, don’t be surprised if you see me in out of season clothing! Size: Made the Size 12. I’m so excited about this new vest pattern from @seamwork ! I’ve been loving the look of vests-worn-as-tops recently, and the idea of a garment that can shift through the seasons with layering really appeals to me. This is a straight size 12 #seamworkotto with the bonus ties added to the standard pattern. It sews up pretty quick and easy, and it doesn’t take up much fabric at all, which has me eyeing some of the small pieces of special fabrics I’ve been holding onto for ages. I like this vest a lot, but I need to make some tweaks to future versions to get the fit perfect. (This was very much a wearable muslin) It’s styled as a sleeveless top here, but I think this one will work best for layering! Next time I will lengthen the vest by an inch or so and do a small FBA. This is sewn up in a rather stiff and heavy cotton sateen. Woah - look at me, getting both Seamwork patterns done this month! First up - the Erin pants. I’ve been needing to make more pants and something kind of fun was needed. Found this great neutral-kind of stripe pants that leans more brown. I like the darts, makes for good shaping. I graded 10 at waist to 12 at hips. I’m tempted to trying it as a wide leg. With it just having a facing at the waistband, it makes for a quicker sew that feels satisfying.
