George Ivanovich Gurdjieff (1872?-1949) Clay study for a marble bust. I was born in a spiritual community (cult? 😅) based on his philosophy. He was an early interpreter of Eastern mindfulness practices for Western culture. Like so many self styled spiritual leaders, he brewed up bits of genuine wisdom with a whiff of con artistry. Despite my general unease with magical thinking, some of his ideas are creative enough that I can't completely discount the guy. My agenda though... My first painting ever! I was 11 years old! 60*90 cm 📜 تکرار: این نقاشی سیاهقلم رو وقتی کشیدم یازده سال داشتم. اولین تابلوی من بود! تکنیک: فقط یک مداد کُنته سیاه!!! حتی زمینهی سیاه کاملا فقط با یک مداد و خطوط عمودی سیاه شده! این کار در مسابقات منطقهای شهر تهران شرکت کرد، گفتند چون خانم بیحجابه، نمیتونه شرکت کنه! 😳 ولی روز داوری، وقتی استادانی از دانشگاه تهران برای انتخاب اومدند، این کار که مظلومانه، پشت بقیه تابلوها روی زمین به دیوار تکیه داده بود رو به عنوان مقام نخست انتخاب کردند و خانم بیحجاب من اول شد!🌟 برای مسابقات استانی، گفتند بخاطر حجاب اجازهی شرکت نداره، چون اگر شرکت کنه باز هم اول خواهد شد! به هر حال سال بعد، دوازده سالم که بود، در نمایشگاه گروهی فرهنگسرای نیاوران شرکت داده شد و خیلی محترمانه کنار آثار بقیه هنرمندان به نمایش دراومد! اینا رو گفتم که برم یکم عقبتر... یادمه روز اولی که پدرجانم، ما یعنی من و نرگس رو به کلاس ساده و بی شیله پیلهی استاد عباس سیدی برد، اول فکر کردم صندلیفروشیه، چون فقط صندلی دیدم و سه پایه! 😅 نه ساله بودم. بهم گفتند یه خط عمود صاف بکش روی این کاغذها. منم بیخبر از دنیا یه خط صاف کشیدم چون اصولا به نقاشی کشیدن روی هر چیزی عادت داشتم 😅 و این خط نحیف ما مقبول طبع استاد صاحبنظر افتاد و من وارد کلاس آقای سیدی عزیز و مهربون شدم.😂🤗 اینقدر از این کار پدرم هیجانزده بودم که سالها با صبوری مراحل سخت این استاد ملایم و مهربان و البته خوشسخن رو پشت سر میذاشتم. از ماهها کشیدن خطوط عمودی، گرفته تا این که بعد دو سال رسیدم به تابلو! بعدش رنگ و تکنیکهای دیگه. خاطرات و ماجراهای اون کلاس بماند😂 ولی هیچوقت هیچ وقت، پشتیبانیها و حمایتها و تشویقهای مادر و پدرم و استاد سیدی رو فراموش نمیکنم، که باعث شدند کلا مسیر زندگی من عوض بشه و من وارد وادی نقاشی و رنگ و هنر و زیبایی بشم. همیشه مدیون و قدردان زحماتشون هستم!❤️❤️❤️ پ.ن. آقای عباس سیدی، شاگرد شاگرد استاد کمالالملک بودند. #نه_به_حجاب_اجباری 😂

The African Emperor & his Arabian Empress: a fine portrait bust of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus accompanied by a marble head of his wife, Julia Domna, in the enjoyable ‘Legion: Life in the Roman Army’ exhibition at the British Museum. The emperor Septimius Severus was born in Africa in Leptis Magna (Libya) in 145 AD and died in Britain in Eboracum (York), in 211, whilst campaigning against the Caledonian tribes north of the Antonine Wall in central Scotland. No British royal post today as I tend to suffer from media overdose. But I would like to show a work whose original is in metamericanwing and which I recently had the pleasure of visiting. You can imagine that it is something very special for me when I see the works that I get so close to through my work in a museum, like for real. Seeing a "friend" in the museum makes my heart leap. At the Metropolitan Museum, I literally said "hello" out loud, which other visitors probably found a bit strange. So I'm showing this bust, an example of a 19th-century representation that refers to classical archetypes from ancient times and thus becomes timelessly beautiful. It is the visual preset in our minds that as soon as we see something like a toga, we make a connection to the ancient world. No matter if there is a 19th-century head underneath. Even if you are a completely normal guy, put on a toga and have yourself depicted in white marble: Voilà: you are a little Caesar! I have now covered this head, precisely to point this out. . ❌ Striking original print of the “Three Goblets” by German printmaker Hieronymus Hopfer (1500-1563) after Albercht Altdorfer. Also referred to as “Three Vessels” in a Victorian frame. Overall measurements of 39cm x 46cm. Hieronymus Hopfer, son of Daniel Hopfer and brother of Lambert Hopfer worked with his father to recreate prints by etching. Daniel Hopfer is believed to be the first to utilizing etching in printmaking. Hopfer was born around 1500 and few details are known about his life with the exception that he traveled to Nuremburg for a year in 1529, and eventually died there in 1550.
