Monterey, CA (part 3) Went on our first deep sea fishing trip for rock cod and ling cod. It was an intense experience fishing over 300 feet deep in the Pacific. We caught 19 fish (3 types), one after the next but may have underestimated the skill needed. A little too difficult for 9 year olds and the poor kids all got sea sick! The flaky white fish is delicious tho and Chef Hughes has a lot of recipes to come up with to mix up our meals! 10.05.1986 And we’re off! Headed out of Pleasant Hill on Interstate 680 to Santa Cruz passing through San Jose (Steve Caballero’s hometown). The Lost Boys movie hadn’t been made yet so we couldn’t make that connection with the beach front but I liked the feel of the place. The journal records it as “small, a sorta cooler Cleethorpes”. Having returned since it is nothing like! Checked out the first skate shop of the trip, Go Skate, and bought some shades. Style Eyes baby! Skated Derby Park skatepark but ended up with no pics. Idiots. It wasn’t (isn’t) anything spectacular but has a LOT of history so was great that we hit it. We’d decided to camp the first night using the tent we’d borrowed from P & K so it was on to Marina Dune RV Park along Highway 1. Probably couldn’t have picked a better spot as it was on the beach and we’d timed it right for a great sunset.
