#Home. Over the past almost six years, we have had the opportunity to make home in the Bay Area after living in Texas for my entire life and most of @mpup70’s. As our relationship has grown and deepened, we have been blessed to be able to make a home here: creating community, enjoying meaningful vocations, and finding adventure. And yet as I suspect it is for many, home is about much more than location; well, it certainly is for us—in the spirit of the old adage “Home is where the heart is;” home is as much about people as it is place. This month, we were able to go home—an experience we never take for granted—and spend time with our children and grandchildren and cherished friends (and of course a good dose of southern comfort food and TexMex!) These dear ones are our heart and no matter the distance or time between journeys, the bonds we share remain strong. After getting back home and trying to catch up after two weeks off, I’m finally posting the digital memories of our trip home. These memories linger, like a warm hug that just won’t let go. ————————— Part One: Framily As the saying goes, you can’t choose your birth siblings, but you can choose friends of the heart who become and expand your family. Our time in Dallas blessed us with a remarkable chosen family—not exclusive but particularly meaningful to queer people—and those bonds remain vital to us. Mark and Raul are home to us every time we go back. They chauffer us in style, take us to eat Hunky’s, cook for us (well, Mark does), and help us process the state of the world—often immersed in hilarity. This trip, we got to assemble at the “family dinner table” at our old gathering spot (@gloriaslatincuisine of course, aka “ #SwirlsforJesus”) then enjoy a preview of our sib @lesfrye and David’s new home and fresh chocolate chip brownie sundaes. [How Frye does it all I will never know!] We didn’t get to see everyone this trip (sorry @brittany_boss_voss!) but did get to hug the necks of several beloveds and catch up with Fritz whom we hadn’t seen since he was newly born. April was a whirlwind. I only read one book this month, but I lived the shit out of life this month, too. Some last minute sight seeing and art in Bahrain, 3 days in London which was not enough (and what's more London than fish & chips?!), the aquarium in Paris, family time in the bay area celebrating my nephew's 18th and the obligatory girls day trip to Napa (I swear I will live there!), and catching up with @jeweliscool (almost 30 years of friendship!). I also visited the California Academy of Sciences and Oakland Zoo while I was home - it was like going back to elementary school and going on field trips there again - but I'll post about those separately. The Education Department is proud to introduce senior Taylor Iarussi, one of this year's recipients of the Child and Family Studies award. She is a senior Child and Family Studies major with minors in Psychology, Art, and Education. During her time here at Framingham State she says she has enjoyed learning about the different options that would be available to her in this field.
