His debut full-length solo album is titled "Eleven Fugues for Sodium Pentothal". The album opens with the track "buried at westwood memorial park, in an unmarked grave, to the left of Walter Matthau," inspired by a recurring dream that everyone who hears his music dies. Over the past years, he has solely worked within collaborative projects, collaborating with artists such as Tomoyoshi Date, Hatakeyama, Norihito Suda, Ian Hawgood, Michel Banabila, and others, contributing to the creation of extraordinary works of minimalist aesthetics. In this selection of three albums, one should definitely include one of the incredible collaborations with Tomoyoshi Date. Their first collaboration, "Hochu-Ekki-Tou", is truly special as it was recorded on the very first evening of their initial encounter. Later on, they recorded "Distance Fire, Distance Cloud" for LAAPS, with a studio-refined sound and 5 shorter tracks compared to "Hochu-Ekki-Tou" (three tracks of 17, 23, and 11 minutes). The length of the album and the fact that this is their first collaboration definitely lead me to choose "Hochu-Ekki-Tou".Additionally, one should select one of the several collaborations with Ian Hawgood. His creative methodology involves actively listening to landscapes and deploying recording equipment in various locations to capture the "sonic geography" of a place. The title "Below Sea Level" symbolizes the flat, marshy areas of Holme Fen and New Decoy, present-day nature reserves in eastern England, with an elevation 6 meters below sea level. These landscapes have inspired numerous musicians, photographers, and writers, including Vivaldi, whose "Four Seasons" are connected with this region. Simon Scott is the first to create a sonic landscape of the place itself. "Below Sea Level" merges authentic sounds of the landscape with human interventions. It creates a meditative atmosphere with occasional gentle guitar passages, the natural "rhythm" of the terrain, tapes, and textures, making listening an engaging and pleasant experience. Scott's work emphasizes ecological awareness and moves away from anthropocentrism. Last year's album "Long Drove" was named after the location that connects two aforementioned nature reserves. Following his 2012 album, Scott returned to this location, this time recording gusts of wind and rain, placing some microphones in the steel structure of an old bridge and adding sounds of tapping into the structure. Artist Bernard Zwijzen creates music under the name Sonmi451. I've encountered this music before, but for some reason, I never delved deeper into its sound. Perhaps I lacked patience for something like this before. However, while working on my computer, this gentle, ethereal atmosphere filled with minimalist notes and whispered sounds slowly infiltrated my inner space and began to immensely please me. The quiet, seductive landscapes feel so calming as a variety of sounds, refined textures, and nature's sounds constantly emerge. Meierkord, often find inspiration in collaborations with other musicians. They've joined forces again to create an Addendum to the EP 'Ewiger Wald', released under the label Dronarivm in January this year. Opulent cello melodies infuse layers of emotion into electronic atmospheres, while synthesizers add livelier shimmering tones. Continuing their neoclassical saga in a calmer and quieter mood, through three versions of the new track 'Bosch', each version tells its own story, gradually reducing dynamics until the final version, where only quiet floating sounds remain, evaporating and disappearing in silence. In addition to this year's collaboration, they also recorded a fantastic LP in 2022 for Whitelabrecs. A darker and colder edition, approached in a different way, brings rustling textures and occasional piano tones, with restrained string orchestration. Deep, slow tones of strings, in harmony with the dark atmosphere, appear occasionally when needed to add certain nuances. Our experimental collaborative process continued and transitioned to woodblock prints. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ Working in LAโs Evergreen Cemetery, she was drawn to the graves of anonymous women remembered in granite as only โMOTHERโ or โHERโ. Carmen brilliantly discovered that she could use her weight to press shapes into the malleable surface of woodblock plates, using this process, she forced the tombstone lettering into the wood. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ To accompany each woodblock print, Carmen drew on letters from her father, recontextualizing the writing with redactions and arrows. Printed on folded stationery stock, the letter facsimiles are presented together like a husband and wife. Feeling that the tracks were incomplete, the artist reworked and extended them to 12 minutes each. In addition to these four tracks, the album includes three entirely new ones, all starting with the letter B (B 4+3). Offering over an hour of powerful drone soundscapes, the album completely immerses you in its boundless realms.
