Spanning wordt hierdoor langzaam opgebouwd en het duurde even voordat ik er helemaal in zat. Het is een steengoed in elkaar gezette verhaal, je vliegt er doorheen en de worldbuilding is doordacht uitgewerkt. Yarros is een getalenteerde auteur die naast het creëren van een bijzonder verhaal met verassende wendingen, ook weet hoe zij meer diepgang kan brengen. De emoties en de gevoelens van de personages worden prachtig uitgediept en vooral van Violet. De auteur had er ook voor kunnen kiezen om op bepaalde momenten er vluchtige blik op te werpen, maar juist het benadrukken van de boosheid en emotionele uitingen van Violet zorgde voor mee diepgang. Je begint haar beweegredenen steeds beter te begrijpen. Ook zien we een sterke groei in haar personage, waardoor zij niet meer het zwakke meisje is als iedereen van haar dacht. Haar relatie met Xaden komt natuurlijk aanbod met benodigde obstakels. Over het algemeen vind ik het niet erg wanneer een boek dik is, zolang de grote leidraad in het verhaal zich verder vordert. Je hebt bijvoorbeeld in de series van Sarah J. Maas of S.A. Chakraborty die ook best wel dikke boeken zijn met verschillende plots, dus terwijl er veel gebeurt zie je het grote verhaal door het perspectief van meerdere personen. In dit boek heb je eigenlijk één perspectief en er gebeurt veel. Er komen een heleboel nieuwe personages voorbij en vooral met de politieke conflicten is het wel belangrijk om je volledig te concentreren. Ik had graag gezien dat dit boek zich op één of twee delen van het grotere verhaal had geconcentreerd in plaats van op meerdere. Maar desalniettemin was het absoluut een fantastisch vervolg. Je leert de personages en hun werelden beter kennen. De cliffhanger op het einde is eigenlijk de kers op de taart. Wel een taart die je pas begin 2025 mag benuttigen. Dit is een van de populairste boeken op het moment en met een goed reden: deze serie is uitstekend en je wilt hem niet missen!

The lovely @awavewithwords__ tagged me in this one a while back - thank you so much!🌸😊 🌹 Series I’m currently reading - The Marlow Murder Club; listening to part 3 - delightful! - Mistborn (I’m not even going to say how long it’s taken me to pick up the second part - I loved the first book so much, that I’m afraid of tainting that pure adoration I currently have for it). - Jurassic Park - childhood fave (I was obsessed with dinosaurs and cried over their extinction on a weekly basis). The book is so dark and so good. - The Witcher. Read it before and started over last year. I occasionally pick one part up between other books. 🪻Series I want to read next - The First Law Trilogy - The Way of Kings - The Book that wouldn’t burn - So many… so, so many 🌷Some of my favourite series - LOTR - Inkheart - The Shepherd King - The Thursday Murder Club - Hannibal Lecter - The Witcher - The Blackthorn Key - Practical Magic Having recently finished the Kingdom of the Wicked series by Kerri Maniscalco, I figured I highlight them for this post. I liked the first part, loved the second and was maybe a tad underwhelmed by the third one. Possibly due to me being so hyped up from part two, which I enjoyed immensely.
