Suspended . . A very large female Valley Carpenter Bee , delicately pollinating the tiny bell blossom of Huechera maxima “Wendy”. . This was a fun one to shoot. She was so focused and determined (it’s impressive how many bees visit Huechera). Every few stops a blossom she was clinging to- and apparently already pollinated- would drop off and she’d go down with the ship…momentarily. Then she’d regain her poise and move to a more stable blossom. All this intense focus made for some easy macro work for once. They dance.....or do they? The Beautiful dancing frog (Micrixalus adonis) belongs to the genus Micrixalus, which comprises of dancing frogs from the southern western ghats of India. The name is given by their unique breeding behaviour. During breeding, the males, in addition to vocalising, also display a foot flagging behaviour. Humans, with their anthropomorphic thinking, have equated this to dance. The 'beautiful' in the common name refers to the vividly rich colouration of the species.
