The Fair has become a community tradition, offering the people of Oley Valley an opportunity to show their prize-winning livestock, produce, and handiwork. Walking around the Fairgrounds is like stepping back in time — with everything from funnel cakes to ferris wheels, and livestock to live music. The Fair was first held in 1947 when two local Oley residents, Warren Levengood and Fred Stauffer, felt there was a need for a community project to unite members of the area in the years following World War II. Students were let out of class early in the days preceding The Fair in order to have time to prepare their livestock or produce — a tradition that continues to this day. The Fair is staffed entirely by volunteers — hundreds of them, including members of 21 churches — many of whom who work year-round on preparations for the event. Today we went to the Oley Fair and we went to see @twittyandlynn after supper. We ate burgers and fries at the Oley Fair. It was a lot of fun and we all had a good time. It was neat for me to experience something new again. I remember going to the Oley Fair with my special ed classmates in the fall of 2003. I ate the same thing there, a cheeseburger with fries, and we were having lunch there rather than at school.
