I really could not get a read on this book. With a very high Goodreads rating, I thought I had hit the jackpot with this one, but really struggled to get into it properly. I was interested enough to pursue it until the end, but wasn’t in love. I found it a very difficult book to physically read, with the Yorkshire accents and terminology. Miv is obsessed with finding a serial killer in the Yorkshire area, after many young women are murdered. She sets off with her best friend Sharon to get to the bottom of the killings. They began to compile a list of suspicious things and put all the people in their village on the list. Beszélgessünk❤️ John Greenről olvasgattam, amikor szembe jött velem egy cikk, amiben az író felelősségvállalásáról volt szó. Arról, hogy mennyire káros hatással lehet az olvasókra az, hogy John Green nem hitelesen ábrázolja Hazel és Augustus betegségét a Csillagainkban a hiba című könyvében, mivel a rák kezelését a valóságtól elrugaszkodva kezeli. Ebből jött a gondolat, hogy beszélgethetnénk az írói szabadságról és a hitelességről. John Green más köszönet nyilvánításában is megemlíti, ha valami a saját fantáziájának szüleménye, de ezzel egyébként nincs egyedül. Például Rachel Lippincott Két lépés távolság című könyvében is szerepel egy gyógyszer, ami a valóságban nem létezik, de erről az írónő tájékoztatja az olvasót. És valószínűleg más írók is dolgoznak így, aztán vagy megemlítik ezt valahol, vagy sem. Számomra a történet a lényeg. Amíg nem egetrengető nagy marhaságokról van szó, és nem befolyásolja a valóságot olyan nagy mértékben egy-egy ilyen behozott fantáziaelem, addig tökéletesen megvagyok velük. Hiszen az a könyvek lényege, hogy kikapcsoljon, szórakoztasson, vagy éppen megsirasson. Azt könnyedén elfogadják az emberek, ha egy kitalált helyszínen, például egy nem létező iskolában játszódik a történet. De azt már nehezebb, ha egy rákos beteg egy nem létező gyógyszert szed. Amit egyébként egy részről megértek, mégis ezért egy írót sem hurcolnék meg. Amíg a könyvön érezni a kutatást, utánajárást, a munkát, addig nem zavar egy-egy ilyen elem. Hiszen nem tankönyvet és útikalauzt írnak a regényírók, hanem olyan történeteket, amiknek a háttere csak egy plusz a nagy egészben. Anélkül is tud valami csodás élményt adni, hogy nem minden fedi le a valóságot, és őszintén, én így is tudom élvezni, ha jó a könyv. Minden ilyen apró hibával, és még néha a logikai bakikkal együtt is. Ettől számomra nem lesz kevésbé hiteles egy író, főleg, ha meg is említi, hogy miben ferdített. Az írói szabadság és a hitelesség között nagyon vékony a határ, emiatt pedig egyénenként változó, ki mennyit tűr el. Kíváncsi vagyok, nálatok meddig mehet el egy szerző, mi az, amit még elviseltek és mi az, amit már nem tudtok elnézni.🥰

Such a cute resource! 9- Things On The Basement by Ben Hatke Graphic novel about a boy who discovers a secret world in his basement. Super fun, I read this one earlier this month. 11- The Encanto’s Daughter by Melissa de la Cruz After she heard Melissa speak on her panel she could not wait to get her hands on this one. It’s YA romantic fantasy recommended for 12-17. A story inspired by Filipino Mythology about a girl who has to claim her place as the rightful heir to the Biringan throne. 13- Storm Dragons: Lightening Born by Julie Kagawa Set in a cloud world where only the rich can own dragons, a poor boy finds a wild baby dragon and starts down a path of adventure and peril! Me- Studio: A Place for Art to Start by Emily Arrow and The Little Friends Of Printmaking Such a cool picture book about finding the right space to create and let your imagination run wild. I’m obsessed with the illustrations. Him- Sweet In Tooth and Claw: Stories of Generosity and Cooperation In The Natural World by Kristin Ohlson A follow-up to Kristin Ohlson’s previous book, The Soil Will Save Us, Sweet in Tooth and Claw extends the concept of cooperation in nature to the life-affirming connections among microbes, plants, fungi, insects, birds, and animals – including humans—in ecosystems around the globe. ⭐️Book Review⭐️ Wake Me When I’m Gone by Odafe Atogun Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/ 5 stars. I got this book almost a year ago because of its beautiful cover and since then, it’s been on my shelf. @bene.reads talked about how she enjoyed reading it on her Instagram story and I decided to bump it up my tbr list. When I finally picked it up, I read all 200+ pages in one sitting. I was so intrigued and couldn’t drop it until I got to the last page!😍. Also, peep one of my favorite bookmarks 🥰. Wake Me When I’m Gone chronicles the life of Ese and all she had to endure because she refused to be a slave to a system that was hell-bent on marginalizing her and other people in her town. From being disowned by her parents because she refused to get married to the chief of her village and got married to a man she loved instead, to forcefully taking her son away from her because she refused to remarry after her husband’s death. Ese was constantly ridiculed by the villagers. It was so sad to see that even though this is fiction, it was and is still the reality of so many women. This book reads like the plot of a Nollywood movie but just like reading a romance novel even though you can already guess the ending because of the comfort it brings you; I enjoyed how familiar the plot felt. I really love the pacing of the plot of this book. This made it very easy to breeze through. I’d recommend this as a book to get anyone out of a reading slump! I read it halfway through my exams (don’t judge me🙈). With this book, Odafe treats very sensitive subject matters such as the inhuman treatment of widows, abuse, and neglect of orphans, and the dangers of silence in the face of oppression. Ultimately, Ese’s story is a reminder for people to always speak up against injustice and corruption, even when their voice shakes. I hope we always remember that one more voice will make a whole world of difference 🙏.

I thought I'd do a little reading update post today . ❤️Last: The Night In Question by Susan Fletcher I've finished The Night In Question a few days ago and absolutely loved it. My full review is on my grid but I highly recommended it as Florrie is such a fantastic character. 🧡Now: Sociopath by Patric Gagne I'm about a hundred pages into this book and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's fascinating to learn more about her and see how she deals with things. 🧡 River East River West by Aube Rey Lescure I'm also currently reading River East River West as I've set myself a goal to try and read all of the Women Prize shortlist. This was the only book I had already so it seemed like a good place to start. 💛Next: The Silence Factory by Bridget Collins I'm then hoping to read The Silence Factory as I'm a huge fan of this author and I've been looking forward to reading it for a while. I'm off today and I'm hoping to get some reading done as I've not been able to read much recently due to feeling poorly. My husband is also off though so I might have to look like I'm at least attempting the housework too. We might go for a walk together too if the weather is nice. The kids all have eye appointments after school which is always interesting. Especially as my youngest son really wants glasses but doesn't need them and my eldest is on the cusp of needing them but breaks into floods of tears every time it's mentioned.... Scoring Forever - Jaqueline Snowe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh man I loved these two so much. Callum and Ivy are just so good together and I loved their story. They grew up best friends and then had a falling out and became enemies. This man was so good and just gold…when he finally realized how gone he was for Ivy…ugh I just loved him! He was determined to get her and not let her go. I highlighted so much in this book. Their banter was top tier and I laughed so much at the both of them! There were so many sweet moments between them…I mean can we just talk about the dinner order (IYKYK). Yeah I teared up during that part. So sweet. You’ve got to read it! 🎧📚 AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: The Guncle by Steven Rowley, narrated by the author ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ "Why do you like boys?” Grant asked sourly, but with slightly more boredom than judgment. “I don’t know, why do you like pizza?” “Because it tastes good in my mouth.” Patrick wasn’t about to go anywhere near that. 🏳️🌈🏜️⚰️👧👦🏊♀️🐩 THOUGHTS: I am a sucker for the "childless person becomes a caregiver" trope. That being said.... Full disclosure, I disliked the beginning of this book, a LOT. I found Patrick to be obnoxious and insufferable with the whole "Making references to things that a child would not understand and being personally offended that they don't get your reference" schtick. He felt like a Will and Grace castoff. But a friend of mine who LOVED the book begged me to stick with it. I'm glad I did, because... I ended up really enjoying The Guncle?!? About a third through, I found myself utterly charmed, and that feeling never let go. Patrick dealing with his trauma and loss, learning how to be a person again instead of just a charicature... it was really well done. And the supporting cast was truly lovely. Those kids are so darn CUTE. There's a sequel coming out later this year and I'm really excited about it! 🏳️🌈🏜️⚰️👧👦🏊♀️🐩 SUMMARY: Patrick has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two kids, no matter how adorable, Patrick is honestly a bit out of his league. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick’s brother checks into rehab, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of guardian. Patrick has no idea what to expect, having spent years barely holding on after the loss of his great love, a stalled career, and a lifestyle not-so-suited to children. Quickly realizing that parenting isn’t solved with treats and jokes, Patrick’s eyes are opened to a new sense of responsibility, and the realization that, sometimes, even being larger than life means you’re unfailingly human. 🏳️🌈🏜️⚰️👧👦🏊♀️🐩
✨BOOK REVIEW✨ Funny Story - Emily Henry ♾️⭐️/5 emily henry will truly never miss in my eyes, but this book was written specifically for me i am convinced!!! i saw so much of myself in these characters, and felt so many parts hitting home. emily henry stop making me ugly cry while reading her books challenge😭 i loved miles and daphne SO much. they were such great characters, and felt so relatable and easy to connect with. i love a good fake dating trope, and their banter was chefs kiss from the start. i think this book had the potential to feel a bit heavy, but the [self-deprecating] humor kept it feeling light and fun, which is something i feel like emhen has really mastered (it’s giving i can do it with a broken heart, ok taylor swift). also, PROTECT MILES NOWAK AT ALL COSTS MY LIL NICK MILLER CODED BB. i love him so bad. i could go on forever, but i loved this one so much and will never stop recommending emily henry’s books to anyone and everyone. i am also slightly convinced i need to move to a small lakeside town and find a cute man to play tour guide for me in order to find my soulmate… so thank you for that, too, @emilyhenrywrites 😂🩷 buddy read with @sorasbookland 🫶🏼
