I remember bringing our baby home for the first time. The overwhelming joy, fear, love and excitement. The unsteadiness from the drive home, going well under 25 mph. Becoming parents isn’t just meeting your child, it’s meeting whole new versions of yourselves. Versions that worry more, sleep less, date nights have become take out watching your babies chest rise and fall but oh man does this version of you love so much harder than ever before. Capturing these moments for other new parents brings me right back to those first few weeks at home with Marlie. We will get a wide variety of images, some clothed and some not. I'm always happy to incorporate something into a session though, but I typically discourage outfits as most are too big for newborns and the process of dressing them will disturb them. Making it a goal this year to share more of my family, maternity, and newborn work here on the feed. Maybe it’s because I’m in my 30’s now, maybe it’s because this is my 8th year as a professional photographer, or maybe because it’s my 5th year settled in Oregon, but I feel especially drawn to this work lately.
