I read somewhere the other day that by the time your child is 14 your time together is 80 percent gone. It WRECKED me. I was shook. How is this possible? You see……I was just you. I was just planning my nursery and wondering what my sweet baby boy would look like when we first met. I was just you hearing people say, “It goes by so fast.” I would nod my head in agreement as if I understood but I didn’t. I had no idea at the time that time would suddenly go in fast forward. He’s 14 now and I know our time is limited before he grows his wings and will no longer need us this way. It’s really hard to swallow. I talk to mamas every singe day when I do my phone consults and I find myself wanting to properly articulate this to them but I just can’t. I sound like the cliche older lady I once nodded at. You just can’t truly feel the powerful tide of vanishing time until you experience it. So I’m putting this out into the world of social media in hopes that when you’re considering that photo session, you don’t let anything hold you back. You will never get this time again and you will never regret capturing it with me in a beautiful way. Breathing that into every session now and forever. When’s the Best Time to photograph newborn twins? Typically, I photograph newborns about 7-14 days after birth. But you say, “What if I’m expecting twins?” Right! Twins are a little different in how we schedule. They are often born well before their due date and spend extra time in the hospital. I usually photograph twins 7-14 days after they come home from the hospital, not 7-14 days after birth. The one caveat is that they are feeding well. If they are still working on learning to eat, then we wait even a little longer.

My birthday wish lists typically included a line item for: “Camera” My high school had a dark room and offered photography classes; I took every one I could fit into my schedule. It was a passionate hobby at the time, not something I planned to make a career out of. I still wanted to (and did) major in Interior Design. After years of photographing with film and writing down my exposures so I could hope to learn from my settings, getting my first digital camera was a game-changer. I could finally see how my settings affected the exposure on that magical LCD screen. Everything clicked into place. That first camera was a Nikon D90 from Costco. I chose Nikon because that was what Costco was selling at the time. Really, no rhyme or reason other than that! I went to Powell's bookstore and made a beeline for the photography section; I devoured any online information (which wasn't as much as we have now!) and checked out books from the library. I put an ad on Craigslist to find my first paying portrait job - In exchange for $50 - but I was so excited. Eventually, I left interior design to pursue photography. 15 years later, I’m still seeking that thrill of getting the perfect photo during a portrait session. Pregnancy can be a stressful time, but I truly believe investing in maternity photos is something you'll be glad you did. You will have beautiful photos to look back on that will remind you of how special that time in your life was. First and foremost, the best way to prepare is to schedule your session in advance. Many photographers (myself included) book months out. So be sure to solidify your appointment somewhere in your third trimester, when your bump is showing and will photograph well. Communicate your wants and needs with your photographer. Having an open dialogue will allow you to feel comfortable asking for what you need and speaking up about your vision for the photos. Having the fine details ironed out before the day of your shoot will help you to relax and have fun. Rest up, eat well, and pamper yourself before the day of your photoshoot... you deserve it! However, it can be tough to feel confident in front of the camera when your body has changed so much. As a photographer, I understand the fears that pregnant mothers have and I am here to help make you feel comfortable and beautiful during your maternity photo session. I understand that you may be feeling anxious about how you look and I will work with you to make sure that you feel comfortable and confident in your photos. I will take the time to listen to your concerns and make sure that you are happy with the final results. I show you photos after every shot and I love it when you tell me that you want to change something - much easier to change something in the studio and just take another shot then to spend hours in Photoshop correcting that stray curl of hair hating myself for not noticing it during the photo session itself. 🤪 I want you to love yourself and your images😍 and to achieve that throughout the photo session, I will give you helpful tips and tricks to look your best and will use the best lighting schemes that emphasize only the important parts of your pregnancy.
