I opened up my personal sessions to other people in the family - and the craziest thing happened! Moms started to realx more easily and cherished the special moments with her loved ones more than I could imagine. The tears of joy, laughter, and an enormous amount of love is always present in such sessions. In a world full of perfect smiles and filters, showing who you really are is powerful. 🌺 When I first came to America 20 years ago, I noticed something strange. People asked, "How are you?" but didn't seem to want the real answer. They smiled, but their smiles often hid their true feelings. This puzzled me. Why do we hide behind these smiles and poses? Why can't we just be real? In my studio, I see this, too. People come in with their 'picture-perfect' smiles, the kind they've practiced for years. But those aren't the smiles I'm interested in capturing. I am going to be honest with you: I loved photographing that beautiful woman! After years spent at home with little kids, she wanted to get back to work.. and needed a great headshot and a boost of confidence to start. I had an interesting conversation yesterday. While browsing at Ulta, I overheard a woman (60+) asking for a product to combat aging. To my surprise, the clerk recommended a miraculous lotion that claims to brighten and rejuvenate the skin, addressing ALL imperfections, wrinkles, and even sagging! It all sounded a bit like a miracle in a bottle. 🌟 Speaking with the lady, she shared with me the significant amount she had already spent on Botox, fillers, and daily tretinoin use. Yet, here she was, seeking another product that might work wonders. When she inquired about my secret, I just smiled and said that, as a portrait photographer, I use Photoshop when needed;) We laugh that it's probably the cheapest option out there. Anyway - In the end, we both acknowledged that the beauty industry is booming, with women going to great lengths to appear younger, fresher, and slimmer. Will you agree? What's your take on this? One thing I do for my clients and wish more photographers in our area are doing, is creating a personalized photography experience that goes beyond just taking pictures. So often I hear from my clients - there is little or no prep before the shoot at other places. At best , they receive an email or over the phone instruction about what to wear and are left on their own with everything. No wonder - the end result is far from perfect. Corporate headshot will have a totally different vibe than the one for a peagant girl, real estate agent, aspiring actor, or charity event.
