👨 I'm going to share an unpopular opinion. And it's a hill I die on proudly, even if I do so alone. Jared Leto was NOT a bad Joker. I don't speak about his method acting or behavior on set. I can't comment on what I know next to nothing about. But as far as his interpretation of who and what the Joker is on screen... Like why did we hate this so much? Leto's Joker had everything any other Joker had: Presence, psychosis, a small army, unpredictability... Hell, supreme awesome commander Amanda Waller has a WITCH'S HEART in her hands and she REFUSES to call him by name. That's a Joker with WEIGHT. There's a lot of hate coming, too, from his appearance... To which I say bravo for branching out and modernizing his look. Or trying. Whether it works is subjective (it does, imho). The REAL problem is how he's written, not how Leto performs him. Very little screen time plus odd scripting, even the director David Ayer said he turned out more of a prop than a character in the theater edit. I loved the strong, dynamic female characters who drive the narrative forward with their courage and determination. From queens to dragon riders, sisters were kicking ass all over this continent. The pacing was a mixed bag for me - while the initial chapters were a slow, enriching burn, laying the groundwork of this vast world, the sudden acceleration of action in the last third of the novel gave me a bit of whip lash. So, I wanted to take a moment and talk about my experiences in Israel, particularly when I first moved here. I arrived in this country in 1996 at the age of 7 from Uzbekistan, a place where I never truly felt wanted. It’s important to note that I’m not Uzbek; I was just born there—my family ended up in Uzbekistan due to WWII. My early years in Israel were a rollercoaster. At times, it was wonderful; at others, it felt like hell. I was often bullied and labeled "Stinky Russian," even though I'm not Russian. I'm Slavic, yes, but that didn't matter to those who heard me speak Russian and decided my identity for me. That label has stuck with me to this day. It's tough dealing with the mean-spiritedness of people who are unwilling to accept anything unfamiliar. Over the years, things have changed. Israel today feels more welcoming than it used to be. However, there are always two sides to every story. On one hand, people here are more open and caring. On the other, they can be overly intrusive, asking everything from "where did you buy that dress?" to "why don't you have kids yet?" I don’t want to delve too deeply, but I want to express that I’ve never felt truly at home or welcomed here. I've always felt like an outsider, forced to be here without knowing there could be other possibilities. But times change, and so do we. I found myself utterly addicted to this book from the very beginning with the story almost instantly jumping into action. There was a nice blend of fantasy, action, adventure, humour and romance sprinkled throughout. I liked the characters, (even if the FMC stressed me out at some points) the creatures, the magic and the world building. The constant drinking and partying from absolutely everyone grated on me after a while. I don’t feel like it was necessary, however, I don’t believe this took away too much from the overall story. I enjoyed reading through Alina/machinas/kali’s struggles and the depiction of addiction and mental health issues that played a big part in her story. I liked watching her grow through those many ups and downs and found myself rooting for her/them throughout the book. I also liked the references to other popular cultures like Harry Potter and Pokemon, just to name a couple and found them relatable and grounding in this new demonic world. I liked how the ending was neatly wrapped up but also left wide open for a potential for more. If you like books with Zodiac Academy/Harry Potter - Hogwarts vibes then this book is for you. 📖 Book Review! 📖 Funny Story - Emily Henry Type: Contemporary Romance Format: Audiobook Release Date: 4/23/24, Happy Pub Day! Overall I liked this one but I didn’t love it… Here are my thoughts: I loved the premise! What a perfect setup for a romcom. While it isn’t a situation most people would relate to (I hope!) there were still very relatable aspects. What hit home for me was her relationship with her Dad and how that impacted her relationship with herself as well as with others. The MC has a lot of personal growth throughout the story which I really enjoyed. I loved the small town setting, all of the library love described throughout the book, and Miles was pretty adorable. My largest complaint I think is that I needed more action… sooner. A statement I never thought I’d say 🤣 For whatever reason, the sparks/goosebumps/heart warming moments just weren’t really there for me. I’d be curious to see this same story told from a dual POV. I love, Love, LOVE coffee & am sincerely grateful to @Influenster and @keurig for sending me an amazing #complimentary set-up to try out. I received the K-Duo Essentials. This coffee maker really won me over, it does so many things. It allows you to choose your size while brewing your coffee. You have the choice of 8, 10, or 12 ounces or, if you’re brewing a carafe, 8, 10, or 12 cups. The carafe section has a heating plate to keep your coffee warm, with an automatic shut-off time of 2 hours after the last brew. When making single cups of coffee, the machine turns off after 5 minutes. The K-Duo Essentials also has the capability to automatically pause the coffee maker mid-brew for 20 seconds, allowing the carafe to be poured, so you don’t have to wait for the pot to finish before pouring your coffee!  You can turn on the brewer, and then insert your K-cup and make your selection almost immediately! The coffee maker heats, then brews in one simple process. No need to wait for it to heat before selecting your cup size. I'm an avid skincare enthusiast & anti-aging optimist that loves to offer my honest opinion on items I try. I received a #complimentary bottle of Dior Capture Totale Le Serum thanks to @Dior & @Influenster. As promised, the following is my honest opinion, what I like to call "Nix2Cents". Honestly I was skeptical about this serum due to the huge results Dior claims it delivers. This anti-aging serum is said to give you plumpness and radiance as well as visible firmness. Dior offers the following test-results. 7 days to make a difference: women report that their skin seems twice** as firm. The noticeable and long-lasting transformation of the skin’s appearance intensifies over time. After 4 hours***, wrinkles appear smoother. In 30 days, 80%**** of the signs of aging are significantly corrected: expression lines, wrinkles, visible pores, unevenness, loss of elasticity, radiance, firmness and plumpness! That seems like alot of significant positive results promised by Dior. After using Capture Totale LeSurum for more than 30 days, I did see results. However, my results were much less significant. My face did look much more radiant, nurished & hydrated yet I didn't experience much in lieu of fine line / wrinkle correction or pore reduction. I did feel amazing and did get compliments on my "glow" from several friends. That in itself was a positive enough result for me to keep this Dior serum in my regimen in hopes of seeing more positive results in the future.
