Found this CD single while I was re-organising my CDs a few days back and gave it a spin. Liberty 37 were a Welsh band from Swansea and released one EP, four singles and two albums between 1998-2001 on Org, Beggars Banquet and Mighty Atom (who released their second album after Beggars dropped them). Sadly, the band never even registered a single release on the Top 200 of either singles or album chart, which I find totally criminal. They were fantastic and Rocksound did at least place their 1999 album "The Greatest Gift" and 2001 album "God Machine" at No.49 and No.10 in their end of year albums lists. The cover artwork for this single is taken from the infamous car stickers of the now defunct (and taken over by mother nature) Penscynor wildlife park in Neath, Wales. So that's it...the end of the theme park season.....so I've got something a little different for you coming up...this week or next week I'm heading to a local wildlife park that closed its doors 25 years ago! Penscynor wildlife park...I visited this once amazing attraction in my primary school years. It was once an award winning wildlife park that attracted visitors from all over the UK to see monkeys, sea lions, macaws etc but now for the last 25 years it remains abandoned and taken over by nature. Remarkably the toboggan track and animal enclosures still remain. To mark 25 years since Penscynor Wildlife Park closed to the public, a special ITV documentary this Sunday will tell the remarkable story of the zoo. Growing up, this place was a must-visit destination for virtually everyone in south Wales and it was the school trip everyone wanted to go on! A few years ago I set out to discover what was left of the park which was once a mini paradise of exotic animals and Walesβ most popular tourist attraction during the 1970s and 80s. It's great to be part of this TV project and I can't wait to watch this weekend. I love this! It's my reflection in a photograph I took aged about 6 or 7. The camera is nearly as big as my head π€£ The other day, my parents and I were talking about Penscynor Wildlife Park as I'd like to do an urban exploring visit to where it used to be. Cue my mum producing an old photo album! For the school trip to Penscynor she had, rather bravely given my amazing ability to drop things, let me take her camera - I think it was a Kodak 77X Instamatic.
