Saint Pius Roman Catholic Church is in South Cumminsville. The Romanesque Revival church was dedicated in 1927. It was designed by the Cincinnati architectural firm of Kunz & Beck. Kunz was responsible for many catholic churches in the area including Saint Leo in Fairmount and Saint Seraph in Over the Rhine.

First Congregational Church- St. Albans, Vermont. ( 1893-1894) The church I attended as a child. I always thought it was a pretty fine piece of work and have just found it was from the drawing table of architect Robert Henderson Robertson, who certainly knew his way around the work of H.H. Richardson. Architect Robertson was also responsible for most of the wonderful buildings at Shelburne Farms in nearby Shelburne, Vermont, Hammersmith Farm in Newport, Rhode Island and many other structures. As I remember the interior ceiling beams were particularly pretty, being ended with the carved faces of blowing wind heads, and the color of the walls was a marvelous blue/grey/green that changed depending on the light. I used to play under the arched porte cochere, which might be why I developed the love of such arches. 😊Yes, the structure was built partly with J. Gregory Smith family money after the previous Italianate church on the location burned. Both the Smith and Webb families( of Shelburne Farms) were friendly and would have known of all these projects. From the Chicago design slinger blog: As the late 1880s moved toward the early 1890s, there was a triangular section in the Wicker Park neighborhood that sat as empty and free of structures as the original prairie landscape the surrounding built-up community had emerged from. There wasn't much undeveloped land left in the vicinity of northwest side neighborhood's six-cornered intersection of Damen, North & Milwaukee which was emerging as one of the city's major retail hubs, and the vacant triangle was ripe for development. Leavitt Street, the long vertical side of the section of land, ran northward from North Avenue, the bottom horizontal side, to meet-up with the angle of Milwaukee Avenue. A street was cut through the center running east to west from Milwaukee to Leavitt and named Columbia. It was small, running only about 600 feet in length, very private feeling, and the perfect spot for 5 large single-family dwellings to be constructed for 4 of the city's emerging, upper-middle-class immigrant businessmen, all designed by the architectural duo of Faber & Pagels. The (Former) Hempstead Bank Building, Hempstead, NY. I featured this on my last "Drive-By Friday." "Founded" in 1909, this is truly a gem situated in the heart of Hempstead, NY. The Village was founded in 1643 and is loaded with many old world structures. Several courts and administrative buildings are located in Hempstead. It is also the location of Hofstra University (my alma mater).This building is actually FOR SALE/RENT and appears to still be listed on a real estate site. It is really not in the nicest area, as Hempstead tends to be high in crime, but I would LOVE to take a tour of it as a possible "interested buyer" perhaps take a look to see if theres anything interesting in it! This is so well-built. It is made of strong brick and marble and has the "Romanesque Revival" style of architecture with the pediment and pillars. Several interesting carvings adorn it. Who wants to invest in this with me? Haha Without sounding too much like a realtor, it certainly would be a perfect location for an attorney, as there seems to be at least one law office nearby. However, i believe that it has remained vacant since on or about July, 2020 and needs a lot of "renovation." Even so, it has maintained a strong structural integrity as it was certainly well-built. Edificiul a fost construit la sfârșitul secolului al XIX-lea în spiritul istorismului, prin combinarea stilului neoromanic cu două turnuri neogotice. Lăcașul deservește în prezent comunitatea catolică a bulgarilor bănățeni. În anul 1864 au fost aduse la Timișoara primele șase călugărițe din Ordinul Surorilor de Notre Dame (latină Sorores Pauperes de Nostra Domina, germană Die Armen Schulschwestern Unserer Lieben Frau), ordin nou întemeiat în Bavaria. Actualul Colegiu Național Bănățean și Liceul Teoretic „Dositei Obradovici” au fost inițial clădirile mănăstirii adiacente bisericii. În actualul Liceu „Dositei Obradovici” erau locuințele măicuțelor, în școala generală de alături erau cantina și internatul, iar clădirea Colegiului Bănățean era Școala de Fete. În 1948 toate au fost confiscate de comuniști, iar măicuțele au părăsit mănăstirea. The magnificent 1892 Dr. K.A.J. and Cora Mackenzie House in Northwest Portland, Oregon. Michael Allen photo. The architectural firm of McCaw & Martin designed the house in a combination of Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle Style. The first story, tower, and chimneys are built of rusticated Tenino stone, and the upper stories are finished with slate shingles. Boston architect Henry Hobson Richardson developed his Victorian-era take on the 11th and 12th-century Romanesque architecture of southern France, Spain and Italy in the 1870s. He worked in the style until his early death in 1886, and others continued using it into the early 20th century. Richardson also worked in the Shingle Style, which used similar forms clad in wood shingle. Homes in this style tend to be large and built of brick or stone, often with carved ornament. Broad arches are a characteristic feature of the style, as seen in this house. One of the most prominent homes in San Antonio, the George Kalteyer House was built in 1891 by architect James Riley Gordon. King William, San Antonio
Built in 1884-85 for the Working Union of Progressive Spiritualists with Hartwell and Richardson as architects. The building had a hall seating 1,400 Spiritualists and was built with money that came from Marcellus Ayer. He owned the deed. In 1914 it became the Exeter Street Theatre, managed by Marcellus and his wife Hattie Dodge Ayer. She managed it after his death and then from 1935 to 1973 it was managed by Alice Viola Berlin. The building was bought in 1973 by the Boston developer and preservationist Neal St. John Raymond who reopened the theatre in 1974. A greenhouse restaurant was added at that time. The movie theatre closed in 1984 unfortunately and was replaced by Conran’s. We all loved Conran’s. After they left it became Waterstone’s, another store from Britain. Both were great stores, but faced tough competition. City Hall, also known as City Hall Loop, was the original southern terminal station of the first line of the New York City Subway, built by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT), named the "Manhattan Main Line", and now part of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line. Opened on October 27, 1904, this station, located underneath the public area in front of City Hall, was designed to be the showpiece of the new subway. The platform and mezzanine feature Guastavino tile, skylights, colored glass tilework and brass chandeliers. The Rafael Guastavino-designed station is unique in the system for the usage of Romanesque Revival architecture. The station was built on a curve and could only accommodate five-car trains, which proved to be inefficient as subway ridership grew. Repost 2019: The #SouthYarraPostOffice, possibly the best work by #AJMacDonald, the very inventive architect in the #publicworksdepartment who managed to design a bunch of POs and court houses in the early 1890s that just managed to get built before the depression stopped everything. This one combines #RomanesqueRevival with #ScottishBaronial or is it a Flemish #steppedgable with a #queenanne #orielwindow. It also has these great #terracotta panels of Australia #florandfauna; I can see koala, #bluetoungelizard, #emu, #lyrebird, and a #wallaby I think. Hours of fun, lots of #numbats or are they #bilbies ? Can’t find any detail on who designed them, perhaps the architect #AJMcDonald did, but they’re great ! There’s a separate door to the upstairs, #circularstair !, prob to the postmaster’s residence, and another to the basement, perhaps the telegraph office, and there’s a hatch, wonder what for ? Restored and extended to the rear in the 90s by and for @bharchitects, still there.

Preservation Studios handled the Part 1 and Part 2 of the HPCA as part of this HTC funded project. During the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, The Miller, Hall & Hartwell Shirt Collar Factory was significant for their association with textile manufacturing in Troy. Famous for their removable cuff and collar production, this was the principal industry in Troy at the turn of the twentieth century. The city became known nationally for its manufacture of these products, earning it the well known nickname "The Collar City." The factory was constructed in 1880 and expanded in 1891. It employed nearly 3,000 people at the peak of production. PRESERVATION NEWS 📰 Have you heard of Baltimore, Maryland’s Hebrew Orphan Asylum? This grand Romanesque Revival building was constructed as a Jewish Orphanage and used as so until 1923 when it was repurposed and used as the West Baltimore General Hospital. After the hospitals closure in 1989, the building sat vacant until 2003. With the help of state and federal tax credits, the majestic structure is once again a place of healthcare. The renovation and preservation efforts by a number of people and organizations allowed the Center for Health Care and Healthy Living in Baltimore to call this historic building home.
