Well, I made a bad choice that turned into a good decision. 😂 I had to do my long run today, and I wanted to run along the River Thames. I decided to start at the London Bridge, and that was the bad decision, and I ended at Clapham Junction. For the first two miles, I had to navigate through a thick crowd, but then the pathway opened up the rest of the way. I saw so many amazing sights! It was a great way to see the city and enjoy the river. I laughed because I had an American woman, of all people, yell at me for running. (I was not really surprised by this. Ha). What was funny was I had to run down some stairs and several English people were super kind and told me to pass them, so I didn’t mess my time up. 🤗 I took the train back to my place from Clapham Junction, and I met four Englishman who were headed home from a rugby match. One of the guys and I were standing close because the train was full, and I warned him I was sweaty. What does he do? Offered me some of his food that he was eating. (Yes, I took it.) 😂 We had a great chat about places to visit and things to see in the UK. Then to end the day, as I was walking home from the train station, I saw a double rainbow. That always makes my heart happy, and it makes me think of my mom. I don’t run 10K races very often, but I did a 10K night race in Kraków tonight! It was a lot of fun. Not many races are offered at night, so I was so excited to be able to run this. I am in training for another race, so this was a race to help me prepare. Before tonight, my fastest 10K was 58:19, and tonight I ran a 56:59! My pace was 9:10. It felt really good! I am in my happy place! Nothing beats running through the woods, and I am staying 1/4 of a mile from the trails. I love surprises like that! I rarely research the place I am going to stay before I go, so I love all the discoveries I make. I did a longer run today, so I got to explore the trails more intently. The birds were chirping in the afterglow of the rain showers. The trail was soggy and squishy making each step soft. It seems the town of Remscheid is built into the hills, so there is no such thing as a flat or easy run at this point. I am not much of a morning person, and if given the choice, I would rather run in the afternoon or evening. However, there are those days where that is not possible. So, I headed out on my run at 7:15 am into the cool, crisp 35 degree morning, and it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed 13 miles along the river Main. I caught the sun as it was rising. I listened to the birds greet the morning. Others runners were out, cyclists, and plenty of sweet dogs and their owners on walks. I completed the Barbados half marathon! It was my 40th half marathon I have ran! Finished in 2:10:47 and it was a 9:58 pace. I love that the race started and ended at the beach, and we were running as the sun came up. It was hot and sticky, with a few good hills, but it was beautiful! I met a woman a few days ago, and she is from Georgia. We were able to meet up today before and after the race. That is one of the fun parts of running: meeting other people. I’d say that was a beautiful and successful run. I can’t believe the time has come! This was my last week here in Astoria! I head to Portland tomorrow and Nashville on Tuesday. Another great week at home is in the books! I only have 8 days left!!! This week I went for runs throughout Astoria. I also did a half-marathon race on Saturday. It was my 39th half-marathon! I also started my 18-week marathon training! My marathon is in Barbados in December. I used the half-marathon race for a training run. My goal was to take it easy and run in between a 10-12 minute pace; mission was accomplished! I enjoyed workouts at Wild Roots with Liz and at the AAMC with Erin. I always enjoy my time with Hank: the furbaby nephew. I also explored Portland more and enjoyed some live music. AND, my half-marathon race was part of the Garlic Festival in North Plains. I have been wanting to go to it for six years, and I finally did it!! It was a great little festival!! I can’t believe I have been home for four weeks already! I only have three weeks left!!! Time feels to be nonexistent, but it is also flying by. I had another amazing week that has me reflecting on the simplicity of life. I love my weekly dance class that always has great energy. I absolutely love my trail I run on. I find myself looking around while I run and I can’t help but smile. I love connecting with friends whether it be hiking in the woods, playing in a cold, crystal-clear creek, and eating thimbleberries straight off a bush or listening to live music, swaying to the tunes, and enjoying each others’ company. I love life on the road. First, I get to see new running spots! I ran in Umatilla, Oregon today! It is super hot, but I loved seeing the trails and what was around every bend. Second, people are really kind at campgrounds. My neighbor to the left of me invited me over to hang out and offered coffee to me this morning. My neighbor to the right of me offered me water because the campground water system went down last night. A neighbor about 10 campsites down lent me an extension cord because mine wasn’t long enough. 🤗🤗 Just finished my 38th half-marathon in my 29th state! This run was one of the more beautiful road races I have done. The sun rise was showing off this morning too!😍 All things considered I feel really good! I didn’t know if I was going to be able to do this race until about 3 weeks ago!! Tomorrow is race day in Missoula!! But I have been enjoying my few days here so far! I was so excited to see an old friend and coworker from Oregon who was originally from Montana and moved back. She initially told me about the Missoula race years ago. I am so excited to finally be running it! And I was so happy to see Cheryl again. I have been gone from home, so seeing a friendly familiar face was great. I am also loving my little campsite set up!!! It is super cute! Yesterday, there was a free community 5K beer run! After the run, we got to try a local brewery: Big Sky. The beer I got was Moose Drool😍 After the run, I got to talking with other runners (from Hawaii, Kansas City, Texas, and some locals) and we all enjoyed dinner together and sharing stories. Wow…sometimes there are runs that take me by surprise…Today was one of those days. I found a new place to run, and I was only going to run 4 miles. But this run turned out to be so amazing I just kept going; I ended up running 6.50 miles. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for this trip, for these views, and for the feeling of being free. It was a perfect 75 degrees with the sun shining and the breeze blowing. The river flowed next to me as white butterflies played with each other. I even made the acquaintance of some skeletons just hanging around in the trees. Every single person I passed was friendly, and they either waved or said hi. This was the perfect way to end my time in Utah. Not even sure where to start. First, I have now ran my 37th half-marathon. It was my charity half-marathon in LA today, and I ran for the American Cancer Society. It is always a time for reflection and gratitude when I am doing events dedicated to my parents. The race was about a 1/2 mile longer (13.56 miles), so I got a little extra reflection time! 😂On this run, I actually felt the release of some things that I needed to let go of. I just felt peace. I am so thankful and grateful to everyone who donated to my fundraiser. I am so grateful to the people who cheered me on and encouraged me over these last 12 weeks. I am so grateful to the four people I have known and connected with since I moved to California: Amy, Cisco, Crystal, and Denise. Thank you for being there and supporting me. Holy shit! Sometimes there are those days that just feel perfect. I just kept thinking, “Do what feeds your soul and makes you feel whole.” Today was all about nature, books, running, and hiking. I picked up my race packet for the LA half-marathon charity run on Sunday. I loved the views from Dodger Stadium! I went to this cool bookstore in Montrose called Lost Books with plants and birds and little nooks to read in. I went hiking at Cherry Canyon Park. The views were amazing!!! The most amazing thing of the day was I saw something running up the trail next to me, and I caught a peek! It was a bobcat! He had a freshly caught rabbit in his mouth. He didn’t notice me at first, but we locked eyes for just a moment before he ran off into the hills. I love when I see nature like that. It always feels like such a gift. I was visited again by a coyote at work yesterday morning. I love receiving these signs. 😍I topped the day off with a run at the Hollywood Reservoir. One thing I love to do in new places, and well who are we kidding, in old places too, is explore! I was out in the Santa Clarita area, so I got to see the The Lost Boys Bridge😍 It was one of my favorite 80s movies. Of course, one of my first crushes was Corey Feldman. Then, the day just got better! I walked and ran on the Santa Clara River Trail. There were snow-capped mountains in the background. I saw so many birds: sweet, buzzing hummingbirds, egrets, and hawks. What was best of all was I saw a coyote. They have been visiting me a lot lately. I am feeling the new moon 🌑 Today was a magical day full of nature’s gifts, love, and connection. I started the day with a run at Runyon Canyon. Then, I headed to my fav place: the beach. My beautiful soul sis Fawn, in Oregon, and I would go to ecstatic dance once a month in Astoria. I have been craving the freedom of dance, so I found an ecstatic dance gathering at Venice Beach. And Wow. It is so interesting that I am in my head in the beginning and very aware, but then some switch flips and the music takes over. I just start moving…the beats of the music just pulse in me. I danced in the ocean as the sun shined down. I took time to pull an oracle card and got Gratitude. Not even 5 minutes later I walked down the beach by myself, and I found a sand dollar😍😍. It was a beautiful sign. At the end of the dance, we all meditated and appreciated the ocean in all her glory. It was beautiful to see people connecting through a shared experience. I have talked about this before, but running really teaches beautiful life lessons. I have learned so much over the years: self-love, being okay with being uncomfortable, challenging myself, pushing myself, overcoming obstacles, being present in a moment, being open, and being vulnerable. I was reminded of all this again during my 10K race. It was an amazing day and race at the beach. There was community, doing something that I love and enjoy, the ocean, nature, journaling, and honoring myself. I am proud of how I ran today. I actually continued to get faster after every mile, and I hit the time I wanted to get. The reward is basking in the sun on the sandy beach. I can’t believe the LA 1/2 marathon is in 5 weeks!! Today started my 12 week training for the LA Half-Marathon on March 19th. Every year I try to run a race to raise money for lung cancer (which is how both of my parents passed away). This year I am running for the American Cancer Society. I am excited to be a part of the LA Half-Marathon and raise money for a cause that matters to me. I am having to raise $650, so if anyone would love to donate money, time, or encouragement, all is accepted! 🤗 The link for my personal fundraising page is in my bio. Here is the reason I am running for this cause: Cancer seems to permeate so many people's lives. Over the years, and to this day, I have lost loved ones to cancer, and I have loved ones who are currently fighting against cancer. I lost both of my parents to cancer in 2014. My dad passed away in June, and my mom passed away in December. I have had friends, Jen and Lindsey, who passed away too soon and left behind their daughters, families, and friends. One of my dear friends Tracy is currently fighting cancer as well. It is hard to sit by and watch the ones I care about deal with cancer. Raising money and running has always given me some sort of control to feel like I can help and make a difference. I know many of you have been personally been affected by cancer as well. What. A. Day! I drove all the way to Central Washington yesterday to run a half-marathon trail race today. I am in the hot, high desert and the views were amazing! It was a high of 94 degrees, and the race started off going up for 2500 feet, and there were a lot of rocky sections. Then the trail turned sandy, and I was able to coast for several miles. The trails were lined with wildflowers, and butterflies flitted about. I actually ran the majority of the race by myself, and I was able to just sink into the moment. I loved the aid station workers and the pickles and watermelon. (It is all about the small things in life when you are in the middle of a race). Besides the views and the trails, the best part about trail running is the people. At the end of the race, we had a party. Trail runners know how to have a good time! We had an open bar, and we had a fajita bar as well. I talked with two other women for hours just sharing about our lives and experiences. I am feeling pretty damn good. Ahhh, my trail at its finest! Everything looked so green and lush! The sun filtered through leafy branches. I saw yellow finches, green banana slugs, and white butterflies. I had a surge of energy and actually ran my best time ever on the trail. My favorite part is after working my ass off to get up the big hills, there is a one-mile stretch of downhill. When I was younger, I always wanted to be a Fly Girl on In Living Color. 😂 So, I get to sort of live out that childhood dream as an adult in dance class. It was a sweaty good time with some powerful, fun female energy! I knew I always wanted to live close to the beach, and I made that dream a reality too! I’m excited that the photos from the night race I did on the 4th are now available. So, these are a few highlights from that day. I ended up running 17.22 miles and I stopped running at about 3:05 AM. It was such a cool experience for so many reasons. First, a lot of people paired up to have a running partner. I ran with two women. I ran with them on the first and third loop, and I ran alone on the second loop. The loops ended up being around 5.70 miles. The first three miles had 1,500 feet of elevation, so we had about 4,500 feet of elevation gain. It rained most of the night and morning. Then the fog moved in as well. The trail turned into a sloppy muddy mess, and I essentially ended up cross country skiing through mud. There was such peace on the trail though. I loved talking with people I didn’t know, but then also enjoying the quiet by myself. I had the dark, wet forest, the muddy trail, and my thoughts. The most common wildlife I saw was white mice! When the sun comes out and it is 60 degrees on the Oregon Coast, it is time to bust out the shorts and tank top. I really love doing this run. I was so excited because I got a free race entry for the Run on the River race from the Astoria Co-Op! Today I ran the half-marathon race. It was rainy, cloudy, and foggy the whole time! They also sprinkled in a few good ole Astoria hills in. I did see white pelicans, and two were flying through the sky with fish in their mouths. A sweet yellow finch flew out in front of me as well! I always love when there are local races because they don’t happen that often! YAY!!! Shana @shana_thornton is finally here from Tennessee!! I was so excited to share my trail with her today! She is the first person I have ran on this trail with. Shana delights in nature as much as me, and we enjoyed newts, slugs, a lone duck, mossy trees, and the sunshine! It’s funny because it is hard to find a running partner where you are similar, but Shana and I just fell back into our old running routine of taking turns leading, relishing nature, and talking and sharing. It is that time of year! I have started to ramp up my training! So far, I have two marathons scheduled. @shana_thornton is coming out to Oregon from Tennessee and we are running the Avenue of the Giants in California. We had this scheduled in 2020, and now finally we should get to run it! I am also doing the Baxter Loch Ness Marathon in Scotland. I know I will get some more races scheduled, but I am so excited for these two! Today I did an 8 mile beach run in some high winds. It definitely added a level of resistance! It was a beautiful evening for a run and the sea foam was blowing everywhere. My shoes were covered. Today was my last run in Vermont because we are leaving tomorrow. We will begin our journey back home to Oregon. It seems funny to say that because it will take about three months to get home. Nonetheless, tonight is our last night in Vermont. I am heading out on a high note, and I did a 16 mile run on the rail trail in St. Albans. The views of farmland and the woods were beautiful. The tree-covered mountains made for an amazing backdrop. I am so grateful for Vermont. It was like a surrogate home for me, and it has become one of my favorite states. Now, I am looking forward to some races coming up. I am training for a marathon in Michigan at the end of the month!!
