Sharing a Stone Brewing; Tangerine Express, Hazy IPA…out of #Escondido, CA (Beer Rating: Full Pint) Ran up the Sage Trail/Stanley Peak Loop; a familiar multi use trail with lots of interesting single track trails and ponds. Maybe avoid most of the interior drop-in single tracks as mtn bikers use primarily, but just be alert. The partially shaded loop has a gradual sweeping ascent until the last push to the peak. It is about half paved and half dirt and rock. The coastal live oaks, sage and wildflowers create a very enjoy day out no matter your ability or distance. There was some seasonal water on the trails but pretty ideal otherwise. Highly encourage exploring the area especially the abandoned ranch buildings and Dixon Lake. San Jacinto Peak Candids | Mount San Jacinto State Park & State Wilderness | 4/25/24 After spending a day hiking Eureka Peak and exploring more of Joshua Tree National Park, @aesidla and I drove about 45 minutes to Palm Springs to take a crack at our first “big” west coast mountain. We flew out with our hiking packs, spikes, and some extra layers in anticipation of hiking San Jacinto Peak from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The tram ascends from a parking area at about 3500’ to the Long Valley at 8500’ in about 10 minutes and 2.5 miles which is impressive in itself. Even though the tram took us a good bit of the way up, it was still about 12.6 miles and 2300’ to nab San Jacinto Peak. Ascending from basically the floor of the desert to the base of Long Valley was wild. Unbeknownst to us, there is a grove of naturally producing giant sequoias planted in the 1974 by the US Forest Service after a fire scorched the area. We didn’t realize this until after we were hiking thru the Jurassic Park style forests! It wasn’t long before we put our spikes on…the trail wasn’t bad until we hit Wellman Divide. We could feel the elevation a bit, but the roughest part was on mushy afternoon snow about 2 miles out from the summit on a side hill section as we climbed above Round Valley. We crossed one other group of 3 hikers who we leap-frogged with all the way to the summit, and we took pictures and chatted once we reached the peak. Views from the 10,834’ summit were stunning…desert to the east, mountains, including San Gorgonio to the north and south, and the marine layer of clouds beneath to the west. It was nippy up top but nothing we weren’t prepared for from hiking in our “home” White Mountains. Luckily the trail began to freeze up on the way down making for smoother travel and fast conditions once we got back to Wellman Divide. Blessed and fortunate to get this time up there with my best friend. Til next time San Jacinto, we will for sure be back when we can to bag some more “big” mountains out West! @palmspringsaerialtramway @sanjacintopeaks @pudspodcast @slasrpodcast #sanjacinto #sanjacintopeak #hikecalifornia #hikingadventures #california #palmsprings #high

📷 @asmharper ... The beautiful views from the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook! From the California State Parks website: "The main hiking trail is steep and winds up one mile from the park entrance at Jefferson Blvd. and down from the Scenic Overlook. The trail zig zags around a very steep and straight staircase visitors can also access. An easy loop trail crowns the 58 acre park. Seasonal displays of native wildflowers, bird and wildlife viewing, picnicking and opportunities for kids and families to connect with the park's natural and cultural heritage are here for visitors to experience. The Jesusita Trail in Santa Barbara is always stunning 🤩 It sure has changed since I hiked there last on January 1st, 2023. Some of the trail was not recognizable and one point along the creek was not visible and just a trail of rocks. The crossings were fun and it was nice to hear the creek gently flowing. Of note there’s a lot of poison hemlock and even more poison oak along most of the trail so beware. We saw one snake who quickly slithered away and we could not identify. Quite a few fence lizards, butterflies and a variety of wildflowers here and there. It’s a mixture of sun and shade on the lower section and on the last mile up to Inspiration Point it is full sun so having plenty of water and going during cooler weather is the perfect time to hike to the top. 😊🌼💚🥾🦋💦 #santabarbara #california #hikecalifornia #santabarbarahikes #jesusitatrail #hike #hikemore #hikeforlife #getoutside #optoutside #naturephotography #naturelover #womenwhohike #californiacoast #californialiving #explore #explorecalifornia #scenichikingtrails #hikerlife

I scored the golden ticket for the JOHN MUIR TRAIL 🎫 The countdown has officially begun, with just three months until I embark on my backpacking journey along the JMT! I’m bursting with excitement and gratitude for this incredible opportunity. It’s amazing how life sometimes presents us with unexpected adventures. Until a few years ago, the idea of embarking on such a journey solo seemed unimaginable to me. However, a friend’s encouragement planted the seed, and it’s been on my mind ever since. Despite doubts and distractions, including relocating to Texas in 2022 and trying to start a family, I couldn’t shake the dream. Then, one restless night in January, unable to sleep, I found myself watching the semifinals of the Australian Open between Coco and Sabalenka. Spontaneously, I decided to apply for the permit. Winning the lottery for such a coveted permit was beyond my wildest expectations! I can’t wait to lace up and embark on this unforgettable journey. Here’s to new adventures and embracing the unexpected!

March 23, 2024, Red Rock Canyon State Park, CA. Not to be confused with the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area located west of Las Vegas in NV. This is a small state park located on CA 14 north of Mojave and south of Olancha. This park has quite some bouldering and off-roading opportunities. Entry fee of $6 and very good and friendly park Rangers. More photos to follow. Oh, and yes, I climbed this because it was calling me. I was too impatient to grab my chest harness and windbreaker. Eureka Peak Candids | Joshua Tree National Park | 4/24/24 First legitimate desert hike was a success…did quite a bit of research and opted to take a route less traveled to a quieter part of the park. Just about 11 miles round trip and around 2000’ of gain. We learned hiking in the sand is a bit challenging. A good bit of the route followed a wash through a canyon, lots of lizards, beautiful flowers, a snake, and the 360° view from the 5521’ Eureka Peak was like nothing we have experienced. I shot a bunch of film and a boatload more photos on my mirrorless. Desert hiking is something…it’s amazing from where we normally hike in the Northeast to think there is basically no water within an area the size of Rhode Island…and we were smack in the middle of it. Highly recommend this wild and beautiful place…was hoping we’d catch a glimpse of a bighorn sheep or desert tortoise but it was awesome nonetheless. 1 - Mount San Jacinto with Palm Springs & the Coachella Valley 2 - Mount San Gorgonio 3 - Ash & I with San Jacinto 4 - San Jacinto L, San Gorgonio Pass, & San Gorgonio R 5 - Ash with a very cool short & stout Joshua Tree 6 - Ash descending Eureka Peak 7/8 - I love these Joshua Trees…San Gorgonio background 9 - Teenie wildflowers in bloom 10 - Mojave Yuccas in bloom @joshuatreenps @visit_joshuatree @pudspodcast @slasrpodcast #joshuatreenationalpark #joshuatree #jtnp #joshuatreecalifornia #hikejtnp #hikecalifornia #deserthiking #desert #sanjacinto #sangorgonio #eurekapeak #california #nationalparks #nationalparksusa #hike #hikingadventures

As any Southern California resident can tell you, the state has experienced another rainy season, already following an abnormally rainy winter last year. According to the National Weather Service, Southern California has witnessed the “second-wettest back-to-back years since records began in 1877.” As a result, California has officially ended its several-year-long historic drought, with 0% of the state’s area facing drought conditions. While it’s great that the state is no longer in drought, these uncommon weather patterns can have a significant impact on the landscape of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) staff and volunteers are continuously monitoring the Landmarks to keep track of the changes in the natural landscape. The goal is to preserve the natural environment while combating invasive species. Since it has been difficult to predict each year’s conditions, IRC staff remain vigilant, constantly adjusting plans based on the best response to weather patterns. This close monitoring is essential due to the challenges posed by unpredictable weather. Learn more in today's blog at the link in our bio.
