🕊️🤍🤍🤍🙏🏽🕳️ I don’t celebrate days when I am told to…. I am also not a flag flyer… I am not interested in fads, trends or buzz words. I am not interested in social narratives that are for me laced in prescribed poison I choose not to swallow. I am a freethinker an enquirer, a deep diver and an intuitive. I believe in equality and freedom… I have witnessed systemic hypocrisy and inconsistency since forever. I do not participate in politics, I strongly appose it if anything. It’s a game that I don’t play. today I choose to reflect….. because today It feels relevant to me…. NEW MOON MOOD - When I was at art school in London in the 90’s feminism was obviously top of the chat. Young woman were painting with icing sugar (sugar and spice all things nice) drawings of domestic appliances were everywhere, because we are domestic goddesses hey? 😄 Big girls were celebrating being big by eating jelly and ice cream on film or put on canvas. Gay, bi etc woman dressed in PVC fetish gear whilst treading on a male with their middle finger up. Sexy, empowered images of geeky girls with heels and a book in hand (the intellectual type) along side the chain necklaced and crooked teeth working class stereotype. Almost every type of female stereotype was glorified in the 90’s art scene. We had artists like the amazing #anniesprinkle who invited us to view her cervix on stage with a torch, #sarahlucas and her brilliant use of props to provoke her audience into paying attention, #cindysherman and her brilliant cinematic repros that demonstrated the many faces of women represented through the lens of a star studded backdrop. #jennysaville #sallymann #barbarakruger etc etc I could reel off so many talented female artists of the 90’s. We are not where we were…. We are so free …. I wish it was like that for all woman all over the world. Today I’m thinking of woman all over the world.
