It was a weekend of contrasts. Sunday was lovely and sunny and we went for a walk with auntie Pat to Kelsall Hill in Cheshire and had a walk along a small section of the Sandstone Trail. Today, as usual for a Bank Holiday, it was cloudy and quite cold. We had a visit from Auntie Lindy, Uncle Steve and cousin Nellie but mum forgot to take a photo 🙄 and had a walk along the beach. Accidentally forgot to take any photos on yesterday’s trail run on the sandstone trail. I used to run the trail quite often, especially last spring between when I left Australia and heading to Madeira. I kind of forgot about it for the most part when I was training for road races through winter. It’s actually the closest trail to where I live and where I work AND there’s no motorway the whole way so I can drive all the way there myself (albeit with Danny in the passenger seat as I’ve not passed my test yet!) Anyway, I just wanted to say I loved being out on the trails yesterday. I feel such a strong drive to run at the moment that I lost when I was training for Manchester. If you’re going through a drop in motivation, it probably won’t feel like that forever! I once bought my 1st pair of hiking trainers after speaking to a friend about trying this challenge 🥾 Fast forward a couple of years, and after a few pints and a pizza the other night, I decided I was gonna go solo it the next day 💪 I ended up running about a 3rd of the run as I needed to catch the train in Whitchurch at a certain time, I got there 2 minutes before the train departed 🤣 winner. There are a variety of walks in the area, some very close, some a little further, however, all worth it. Today just a little bit about the Sandstone trail. The Sandstone trail was one of the earliest middle-distance routes in Britain and the first proper 'Cheshire Way'. Officially opened in 1974, it was carefully planned to take in the best of Mid-Cheshire. Originally the trail was 'just' 16 miles/ 26 kilometres long; however, these days, it is 32 miles/ 50 kilometres long. The trail runs between Beacon Hill and Frodsham in the North to the market town of Whitchurch in the South. It is time to make those plans for a few nice walks, wondering about accommodation? Been a while since I gave an update but firstly I want to thank everyone for all the support and encouragement I was shown at the end of last year during my 31x 10kms for December. Donations were fantastic and we collectively manage to raise a massive £1,794 ! There has been a slight adjustment to the challenge plan for the year and it now looks like this - Challenge 1 - 10km every day for 31 days – Done Challenge 2 – Sandstone Ultra Marathon (55km Whitchurch to Frodsham) – Pending 12th May Challenge 3 - David Goggin’s 4x4x48 challenge (4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours) – Pending June Challenge 4 - Snowdonia Marathon (45km & 1,685m of elevation) - Pending 14th July Final Challenge – Berlin Marathon – Pending – 29th September !!! Challenge 2 is just 3 weeks away !!! The Sandstone Trail Ultra Marathon I will be running the entire length of the sandstone trail (Whitchurch to Frodsham) The 55km trail will be my first Ultra marathon and one I hope to complete in a sensible time ! When your race plan is executed to perfection 👌🏻💯 Saturday was one of those days where the stars aligned and everything went to plan. That’s not to say everything was perfect - conditions underfoot were far from it! - but how @nathanjfrench handled himself and the challenges race day threw at him was exactly as he’d planned. He always had a sub 24 hour time in mind but over such long distances it’s hard to focus solely on an outcome goal like time, so he focused on small wins across the course, keeping his cool and pushed really hard towards the end when he knew the elusive goal was in reach… 105 miles in 23 hours & 36 mins 🚀✨👏🏻 So very proud of you!
