I can officially say I found one of the rarest π shells β¦ itβs a baby and looks a bit old β¦ but who cares ! . @amycalleja13 & I woke up at 5:30 to get to Sanibel a little after 6:00a it was 40Β° and 30 mile per hour gust of wind π¬ at π€ͺπβ¦ yup I am THAT shell crazy ! This was one of my first finds in a glob of sea wrack ( I waited for sunrise to take a photo ) There is no doubt my mum helped with this one π₯°- thanks mum ππΌ Ζβ±ΟΉΤ΅Υ : Scaphella junonia, common names the junonia, or Juno's volute, is a species of large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Volutidae, the volutes. This species lives in water from 29 m to 126 m depth in the tropical Western Atlantic. . The types of shells that can be readily found on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva come from animals that live close to shore. The Junonia sea snail lives miles offshore, in water between 30 and 130 meters deep! It's February but I will still be wearing gloves because I have Raynaud's Phenomenon. This causes a loss of feeling in my hands a feet when it's cold. It's Raynaud's Awareness month because there is little known about the cause or cure of this effect on the body. It can be quite painful and a bit worrying if my fingers go blue for a period of time. When I loose the sense if touch I can't operate the screen on my phone or pack bags at the supermarket if I've been near cold fridges. The fear of this does put me off my dream of going to Lapland to try and see the northern lights. It's a good excuse to have gloves of every colour! My drawing work and building the muscles in my hands has helped. You know what they say cold hands warm β€οΈ. Just remember, be kind you don't know what they are dealing with or the pain they may be in. This bailer shell was a gift from a lovely lady. I work in the pool industry and was servicing this ladyβs pool. When I arrived she had some of the most beautiful shells on display. I admired them and told her my story. When I was finished she came to me and explained that her late father had collected shells from around the world as he lived a life working on trawlers. She had nobody in the family who wanted to take them so she gifted me a box full of awesome shells. So kind.
