Avenging Spider-Man no.3 "Digging Out" from March 2012, and after the fall of Red Hulk, Spidey grabs Jameson and make their escape back to Subterranea, leaving Red Hulk behind! As they argue, the Molan warriors catch up to them, meaning to wipe out the Moloids. Jonah rides off, but Spider-Man stands up to Ra’ktar and receives a brutal beating from the Molan champion. But before Ra’ktar can deliver the final strike, Spidey webs up a sharp piece of rock, the same kind that makes up the King Blade, and swings it with enough speed to slice Ra’ktar’s armor, thereby exposing his lower body, humiliating him in front of his army. Mole Man informs Spider-Man that, according to Molan law, humiliation is equivalent to beating him in combat, so Spidey is declared the victor. Meanwhile, Red Hulk finally heals up and shows up to find that Spidey has formed a truce with the Molans. Back at the surface, Jonah is chiding the other Avengers when they see Spidey and Rulk come out from underground. Red Hulk admits that Spidey alone saves the day and jumps away, leaving a highly perturbed Jameson behind! Avenging Spider-Man no.2 "Below" from February 2012, and deep beneath the surface of Manhattan, a giant worm monster burrows into a chamber and promptly belches up Red Hulk & Spider-Man! Deeper underground Jameson refuses to bow down to Ra’ktar even when Mole Man pleads him to do so. Ra’ktar and the Molans take Jameson and Mole Man back to their kingdom. Elsewhere Spider-Man finally wakes up to find Red Hulk and himself being taken to a destroyed city. Once Red Hulk breaks out of his ropes the two Avengers figure out that they were attacked. Spidey realizes that the Moloids may need their help, even when Red Hulk opposes the idea of helping their “attackers”. Later Mole Man explains to Jameson that the Molans appeared from beneath Subterranea and took over his kingdom. He then explains that the Moloids fled to the surface for help but grabbed the wrong person, that person being Jonah. Soon enough battle armor is put on Jonah for his battle against Ra’ktar. Mole Man explains that because he refused to bow earlier he challenged the new king for his throne and that the Molans believe Jameson is the ruler of the over world. When the two confront and Ra’ktar draws his sword, the king blade, from the ground Spider-Man and Red Hulk arrive on the scene. Red Hulk accepts the challenge for Jameson, but with a quick slash across his chest and a slit to the throat the red giant is brought down to his knees. With a failed attempt by Spider-Man to stop the final blow, Ra’ktar stabs Red Hulk right in the chest! Immersed in all the darkness and decay Denied the sleep to dream myself away Said I was bright, too sensitive to fly One of the greatest concept albums of all time finely gets a live release. Before you even get to play the music , you can tell how much love has been put into this release as it comes in a wondeful looking die cut tri fold sleeve depicting the jail bars on the front sleeve where you can change the picture using the inner sleeves. The 3 colour vinyl are also no ugly ducklings either. So too the music, for those who have never heard this album, basically the story goes a man who has been held captive in isolation all his life only has contact with the provider, is released or escapes from his prison, where he interacts with the outside world as everything is new, only to find everything he does is monitored as it all an experiment. It is loosely based on Kasper Hauser a German boy who appeared out of no where claiming he had been locked up all his life. This is an album full of atmosphere in a way it feels better than the original studio release as it is a lot heavier in parts compared to the studio album. Pete Nicholas doesn't just sing the parts, he brings this character to life which you can feel as the album progresses. There is no point singling out individual songs as all 19 songs are a build up to the 20 minute climax The Narrow Margin. It is hard to put into words just how good these musicians are especially Mike Holmes on guitar probably one of the most underrated guitarist out there. In the 80’s they were my #neoprog favs, #IQ, loved the enthusiasm and their willingness to make this very proggy music in spite of mainstream popular music and so called serious rock reviewing media that looked down upon the genre. Above all loved their music and thought #thewake a brilliant album setting aside its productional flaws. Loved the two #plmenel era albums and still think they are underrated. Loved the return of #petenicholls and albums such as #ever and #subterranea, a pinnacle for the band. Yet also found them becoming bit repetitive, interest faded, and don’t know why, but didn’t catch up with what they did after that. Till returning to an again more active ‘listening to music life’, including starting this IG account. Well and you my lovely online #progrock friends brought me back to IQ, time after time hearing about #theroadofbones being such a masterpiece. So. Bought me a copy of the 2014 album on CD few months back… And yesss. It’s great! And recognizable. Haha, the opening minutes: the guitar riff, the sound, the singing. Definitely IQ and how I remembered them and loved so much. Felt like being back home. Of course it’s a neo style, and IQ still on the edge of having their authentic own sound or being repetitive same-ish. But hey in the end, who cares, it’s gorgeous! On here also steps forward, I hear some heavy passages, on the 20mins epic #withoutwalls even till the extend of the war part of #gatesofdelirium. And yeah of course as the chaos revolving moog melody takes it back, it’s almost a prog cliche, but as said, still, I love it. Was most surprised by the passages having this more modern sound design, like the superb title track and its marimba melody line and rhythm structure. Felt almost disappointed in the next track the mentioned traditional moog solos came in. Yet of course in itself very well done by newcomer #neildurant. The album known for, as Google tells me, being slightly more heavy, yet for me the more quiet parts are the ones that stand out. Like the mentioned title track and the lovely sole piano closing the album. So. I’m back on track. IQ great band. Love them. . . #progwednesday #iqband

Slop Clop Gurgle Gloop: Collaboration with artist Laura Robertson. First installed at Underland Passages (@laurarobertsonart + @erikac_art) as part of Art Week Exeter 2023 & the foot sinks into it (@laurarobertsonart + @laingtateart + @erikac_art) at The Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington. Subsequently released as a limited edition USB drive. Originally created for installation underground, Slop Clop Gurgle Gloop is a 31 minute audio piece made from sounds of slime & the human body interacting with it. The material of slime is given a voice via physical manipulation and sonic processing, developing over the length of the composition. Themes of subterranea, fluid geology, deep time & abject matter are central to the work. 4 audio clips are presented here.
