I don't always wake up at 4:50am to run, but when I do... It's to run in JORTS. 😜😂😳🤣 . This morning was too hilarious. A bunch of wacky running friends gathering pre-dawn to run in jorts... On purpose!!! The @roeblingrunners is having a good natured, very humourous #roeblingolympics this week and next. Today's extra special event was a VERY early run in jorts. I ran the required 2 miles with @allenheidijo , took my pic under the Purple People Bridge and wondered "why?" the whole time. Heidi and I laughed a lot. I earned a bronze medal for Ohio by coming in 3rd... Out of 3 ladies. 😂. Woohoo!!! . Then I stayed for the "normal" run at 6:30am and ran 2 more miles. This time with @rachelbirrer . We also laughed and took pics of the sunrise. Then we ate cereal, drank water and coffee and hung out a bit. I shared my fave cereal (Chocolate Frosted Mini Wheats) with several runners in the group. Yes, I had cereal in my car... I run dogs, for my job, and get very hungry during the day. I can't always stomach typical lunch food, but I can always eat cereal. 😉 . Yes, that IS a side ponytail. Easter Morning Adventure . When you have the crazy idea to run the farthest to date on trails on Easter Sunday what do you do?? Enlist your crazy-cool running friends to help you accomplish the task!! 💙🙌🏻💚 . This weekend was #themorningcoffeerun thru @rasselbock.running ... Choose your farthest distance or your fastest time & crush it!! I chose to run my farthest on the Withrow Nature Preserve trails. Until today I had only run a max of 2 loops (4 miles) in any one visit to Withrow NP. But today, with massive encouragement from @rachelbirrer & @davidrunscincy I DOUBLED THAT and ran 4 LOOPS (8 miles)!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 . It was a beautiful morning, crisp and clear. We crushed pace, tore up trail, munched on miles and got it RUN!!!👍🏻 But we also threw in some shenanigans, enjoyed the spring wildflowers and took a short break between loops for hydration & nutrition.😉 I know I would have called it after 3 loops had I not been with my friends. They made it more enjoyable and helped simply by running with me. Thanks again you two awesome humans!!! . Today was a beautiful reminder of just how far I've come, what I'm capable of and how blessed I am in this life. I knew there was NO way I was winning this race ( @awaugh , Graham & @shellbell2000 are fiercely fast competition ), so instead I took the opportunity to run with @manders1125 and enjoy the sunrise. Trail Thursday Withrow Nature Preserve Very Dark & Extra Early Roamers gotta Run 😁💙👍🏻 . . Was super excited that @awaugh & the gang ( @moweincouff @nastynattironman @squirrel_rager ) made the trek down to my neck of the woods this morning!!! It meant getting there a bit earlier than usual for me (6am instead of 6:30), but it was SO WORTH it!!! I love showing off my local "happy place". 😁 . A Beautiful Day With a Bit of Weirdness Just the Way I Like It 🧡💙💛🐾🦖🤭 . My day, in no particular order: Managed to catch the tail end of sunrise up at the @aultpark overlook for the first time in ages. My heart was already full, this bordered on bursting!!! Such lovely light, crunchy leaves and vibrant trees!!! . Sky. On. FIRE. Got a quick 5K done with my RR crew before the StepForward Ladies'practice this morning. Absolutely beautiful sunrise. I counted this as my "WHO wants to run for Autism" 5K. My older daughter is on the spectrum with High Functioning ASD. I have run this virtual race every year since she was diagnosed in 8th grade. I love her to pieces and she is such a gift to my heart. Yesterday was her 17th birthday. Yeah, let THAT sink in... It was probably one of the best bdays she's had in awhile because she was home and didn't have to listen to classmates saying to her things like: "That sucks your birthday is on 9/11", "I'd hate it if today was my birthday", "Oh, I'm sorry your birthday has to be on such a terrible day".😐 19 years ago the world stopped. 17 Years ago it started again for us. I always stay up until 12:11am the morning of 9/11 to honor the lost and pray for our country. But the rest of the day is for celebrating my kiddo. She is our reason to be joyful in the face of that memory. She gave us back hope for the future. This is an emotional time for me every year. 19 years ago my week started and ended with death... 9/11 of course and on 9/17 my grandmother died. It was the worst week of my life. I was stuck in Evansville, IN on a job and just cried my way thru. Then I had to get on a plane (yeah...😐) and fly to AZ for my grandmother's funeral. I had a panic attack on the plane, called Steve and he talked me back to calm. All this went thru my mind this morning, as it does EVERY year. Death, burial, birth, life, growing up. That sunrise felt like a gift to my soul this morning. I'll take it. Thanks God, I love you too.

Missed my @roeblingrunners but repped the group in my new shirt.👍🏻💙 . It's been months since I've run in my neighborhood, so I rather enjoyed this run. It was early, people were heading out to work, dog walkers were out in the park, but I was the only runner out. Originally I was going to sulk and just run repeats on Wasigo😕... Then I decided to go up Beechmont to the park and around the block with the cemetery & Water Tower instead. . I'm glad I changed my route. I found so many signs of fall, enjoyed the smell of wildflowers and saw some beautiful colors both in the sky and on the ground. I wasn't really trying to run negative splits, but I'm not complaining!!! Mile 3 was certainly wonderful... and pretty much ALL downhill!! 😁 Made that Dirty Pumpkin Chai taste that much better!!! 😁 . 16 miles. D.O.N.E. . . It was pitch black when we started before 6am. Sunrise came about the time we got to Armleder. The fog was thick & beautiful and began lifting as we headed back towards Lunken. There was an earthy sweetness in the air on the connector that was amazing to smell. We met the RWB group after 8.5miles, then headed out to finish it off. Got a bit overheated around 14.5, so we power-walked the last bit to finish up. It counts. . That first 5K was for #bravelikegabe. 💙 . God Bless @kimbyjg for sticking with me the whoooole way. Struggle Bus Sunrise But we got it RUN. . . *Warning...Female Issues Discussed* ^^^but don't let that stop you from reading this... I promise it's not gross!😉 . So as if humidity and 10 degree temp increase wasn't enough of a challenge for me at this morning's #BelloBoomerang ... My body added systemic inflammation to the mix. 😬 And while EVERY woman has to deal with this EVERY month, not every woman has the added issues of Asthma & Arthritis on top of it. Female cycles are kicked off by our bodies sending chemical messages to inflame the lining of the uterus so it sheds. But these chemical messages aren't that targeted. It's more like a radio broadcast than a telephone call... The message gets sent outward on all directions, not just to our uterus. So this means that ANYTHING that is an inflammatory issue will respond. YEAH. Asthma gets worse, arthritis pain increases, etc. Oh, and don't forget that blood is VERY salty, so as you loose it you take valuable salts from your muscles to rebuild supply. Now you get the picture... Time for a ride on the Struggle Bus. . This is not a complaint. This is a fact. It's what we choose to do in the face of this challenge that matters. I could tell you all this and then stay home on the couch. But instead I went out and ran. It was hard. It hurt. I had a fair bit of extra walking on the uphill parts. But I did it!!! I adjusted for the struggle and got it RUN. And I didn't do it alone. I had @rachelbirrer by my side to rant & cuss & laugh with me every step of the way. . What are you facing that seems like an impossible struggle? Can you break it down, look at the influencing factors, adjust and try a new course of action? This morning almost broke me. Almost. . . Such a beautiful morning for running. Cool, light breeze. Up early (4:15am). Out the door on time (5:05am). Met @rayhaimm & @aydeedubya at the Roebling for some EARLY miles before the regular meet-up time for @roeblingrunners because I needed 8 today. MCM50K training's first long run. My mantra for the first 4 miles was "I'm up. I'm here. I'm doing this." Music in my ears, round & round on the "cardio carousel" as ADub calls it. . Rachel showed up early and ran my last Roebling lap with me as the sky put on a lovely display. Then she stayed with me for the next 2 miles and I finished my distance with an out-and-back on the Newport Levee. Route, scenery, company & weather wise it was perfect. But oh, my brain... . Pausing after 4 miles for the RR group meet-up gave me time to think. My brain kept saying "You gotta get 8 miles!!! Let's GO!! You're never going to get this done!! You're training for a 50k... You really think you can do this?!?" But really I had 4 miles left. I already ran 4. And I'm not running the 50k distance until Nov. 1. WTH brain?!? Anxiety, fear, doubt, "what did I sign up for, I can't do this, it's too much"... . Then I looked at the sunrise turning the sky & river to fire and I heard God speak: "I know the plans I have for you my child. Plans to give you a future and a hope. Peace, be still. I'm here every step of the way." . And I cried. . Ok God. Thank you. I can do this WITH you. I can do this THRU you. I love you too Lord. Deep breath. Let's get it done. . 🔥Midweek Glow.🔥 . . It was stunning at the overlook and not so cold that it hurt. Two of my fave pups were out walking and I got to say hello. And, of course, I prayed around the world.💜 . And to bookend the day with fire, I lit up the sidewalks and burned down some miles while the Older Teen had tutoring. I had already run 5 miles with pups for work, but slowly. Was going to stop at 2.5 miles. Andrew heard me express my discontent & exhaustion as I headed back to the Roebling Statue. And there I decided that because I complained I would run a bit further. Bit late with this... these were from this morning. 🙃 But I really wanted to share them and the day got away from me after my quiet time of prayer and reflection at the overlook in #aultpark this morning. . This is the first time I can honestly say I am looking forward to Fall on all fronts. I always enjoy the shift in weather to cooler temps and the colors. But there are memories of moments filled with great pain starting in September and running right thru till Boxing Day for me... Loss of friends, loss of family, car accident, friends losing loved ones, 9/11, the list goes on. . In the past I have tried to hide from these memories, or run away from them, or run thru them... Keeping insanely busy and always moving to avoid facing them, feeling them and releasing them. And I was unable to state openly some of who I am (mental health warrior, depression sufferer, suicide survivor, mental & emotional abuse survivor) without it tearing me apart. . But this year? This year I stand strong in the knowledge that I am greater as the sum of my parts than without part of what makes me ME... The painful parts have made me a supporter for others going thru pain. The abuse has made me an advocate for those who feel their voice is weakened by abuse. The losses have made me treasure the gains. The sum of the parts, good and tough both, has made me into the encourager I am. It hasn't given me my purpose, but it's helped me hone in on what my purpose truly is: To encourage those around me and show love in the face of all else. . Thank you all for listening. Sunrise Miles with @roeblingrunners this morning!!! 💙🏃💙 I know I say this every time I run with them... But I LOVE THIS GROUP!!! 😄 Today was my first time making it to a #belloboomerang and it was worth the early morning effort.
