It played like the final moments of your favorite song, tapping your hand, rocking your head, knowing the words before breath abandons mouth. . Maybe it was never about the poetry, maybe writing is the strawberry reduction garnish, drizzled around the edge of the plate. The restaurant could be the Black Crow and the food is good but it doesn't need 5 stars cuz no one really cares about the food. What could be important is gathering with a bunch of wonderful weirdos, midnight geniuses, adventurers of ideas, question askers, torch bearers of humanity like Dale in the Walking Dead, or like Courtney who reminded us peace is just a byproduct of unbridled love. After all the meals and all the garnish, sigh, we remember we never wanted food anyway. . Today was the last Community Poetry until October and I'm so thankful for all the strange and wonderful people I've met along the way. Each year we are made wiser writers, more insightful poets, and more creative in our approaches, using different techniques to reach the reader, writing like we're jewelry thieves dangling above the truth, lifting the insecurity glass, and feeling the weight of perspective, the weight of the worlds largest diamond of thought. . I'm also grateful for rest during the summer. I apologize now if you hit me up while I hibernate... because the cave beckons and the iridescent curtain of rest calls like a green nocturne. In this time, I advise you rest as well! Don't always be writing, as local poet Gianna Russo said, "Even a fisherman doesn't always fish, they too, need time to mend their nets." First up, two truths and a lie — LMK in the comments which you think is the lie. 😏 💻 I studied psychology in college but dropped out to pursue my own biz. 🌴 I’m originally from Ohio but moving to warmer weather was always a dream so in 2018 we moved to Florida. 🎨 Painting hasn’t always been my chosen art form. I practiced photography for many years. Currently with my art, I’m working on elevating my practice by painting nearly every day and focusing on canvas and larger scale work. My paintings have always been abstract and expressive, but I’m continuing to lean more into that, creating vibrant, moody, yet joyful and dreamy art. ✨🌈 Right now I’m focusing on the creation of new work and coming up this summer, you’ll be seeing more art available for purchase here on IG and on my Etsy shop. I'm reflecting tonight a lot. Reflecting on the good. Reflecting on my art mainly. It's been exploding lately, and after failing more times, than I can count, I think I finally have it. I'm excited about what that even means. All I know is that I grew a huge set of balls and a backbone. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 🧡 𝐆𝐅𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 Not once in a million years did I foresee myself standing in the same position I was just over a year ago. The first time I received this award, I had just changed my major from nursing to art therapy and was taking my biggest risk yet—pursuing art. I had no idea what my future held or if I would succeed; all I knew was that I had to stay rooted in the thing that brought me the greatest joy, which was art. However, to receive it again, a year later, as an Art BFA major with a minor in Art Therapy validates the steadfast belief that the arts are EXACTLY where I belong. My immersion in the arts has been the primary factor in the growth I’ve experienced in the past year, personally, professionally, and joyously. I really cannot express how grateful I am for this honor, which has been a stepping stone in my career in this rapidly expanding industry. It is indeed a privilege to have the opportunity to represent both the University of Tampa and today’s emerging artists once more. To continue to be able to share my work with the Tampa Bay community, establish connections with individuals in the art world today, and have supporters who are willing to contribute to my education in the arts means everything and more. Thank you GFA for once again welcoming me and supporting me in your ever-growing community. Your encouragement helps me to maintain my resolve that my artistic voice and abilities have purpose, that there are no limits, and that I have a bright future ahead of me in the arts. Furthermore, I thank God for bestowing upon me the capacity for creation, the love and hope that abound in my heart, and the inspiration to set ambitious goals and never give up. And last but not least, I am grateful to my family and friends for supporting me throughout the journey thus far.
