FRIENDS OF THE RAMSDELL: MANISTEE CIVIC PLAYERS In the early days of the Ramsdell, the Manistee Civic Players were some of our most dedicated friends and partners. When they were founded in 1939, they received permission from the Butterfield Theatre chain to use the Ramsdell Theatre. Specifically, they were able to use the space to hold rehearsals and theatre productions twice a year. Their first-ever production was "The Night of January 16th" on September 14, 1939. They have since brought an array of amazing productions to the Ramsdell stage and have been some our most enduring partners in bringing entertainment to Manistee township. Meet the cast of Steel Magnolias: Trudi Sheppard as Truvy Trudi is thrilled to be returning to Chinquapin Parish after 18 years, being lucky enough to have been in the original Beaumaris Theatre production of Steel Magnolias in 2006. It's a show that always held a special place in her heart. Playing Shelby at the time, she is utterly delighted to now take on the role of Truvy, a character she adores. Most recently Trudi was seen as Jackie Jones in Cul de Sac (Encore Theatre Company) for which she was a Lyrebird Award winner. Prior to that she was Virginia in It’s Only A Play (Moordialloc Theatre Company) and Alice in The Vicar of Dibley (Beaumaris Theatre Company and The 1812 Theatre). During the interval at tonight's performance, I had to run out to greet this stunning lady! Sarah is a fellow actress who has #FunctionalNeurologicalDisorder, just like me👸👸🏾 The highlight of my @thedriftersgirlmusical experience has been the number of #FND patients & disabled individuals who have come to see the show knowing there was a cast member (even an offstage cover) they could relate to. Meeting with and hearing from each one has been more meaningful than most will ever understand. It is really isolating not to know anyone else who is like you, especially in this industry. People are quick to question your belonging due to a lack of representation. This is my first time having the privilege of meeting another performer with my condition, & it has left me with an unexpectedly frothy feeling of visibility. Despite all she has been through, Sarah continues to shine onstage & screen, and all with an infectious disposition glitters with champagne and sunshine. What a timely #fndawareness Month gift! These performances are open to the public and only altered slightly for the comfort of ALL theatre goers. Tickets to these performances are purchased the same as any other show but priced only at $10 a seat. THAT'S RIGHT JUST $10 a SEAT THIS SUNDAY April 21st! We welcome ALL audience members to our Sensory Friendly Matinees, especially those with sensory needs or neuro-diversities! For these presentations, we will incorporate the following: Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance. Reduction of any sound or light effects that might be considered startling. Space throughout the theater for standing and movement, and designated quiet areas available. An Sign Language interpreter provided for the Deaf community. A judgement free audience, where viewers are free to respond however makes them comfortable.
