A touring musical version of 101 Dalmatians is hitting the open road later this year – and a second Cruella De Vil has been confirmed. Based on the production that played at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in the summer of 2022 (though now reworked), the piece is written by Douglas Hodge (music and lyrics) and Johnny McKnight (book), from a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris. It tells the story of a couple who find themselves surrounded by a tidal wave of dogs – only for the canines in question to be then coveted by the notorious fashionista Cruella de Vil. Actor and pop icon Faye Tozer will be playing Cruella de Vil in Norwich, Canterbury, Leicester and Wolverhampton. She said today: “Tozer said: “I’m going into my wicked era with this dream role – it really doesn’t get much better than Cruella de Vil! When they offered me the part, I just jumped at the chance. Full casting has been confirmed for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical, Carousel, which is set to play at the Royal Festival Hall for a one-night-only concert on Saturday 13 July 2024. The show, that followers a tortured and deeply flawed carousel barker, features a much-loved score including iconic songs such as “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “Mister Snow”, and “If I Loved You”. As already revealed, leading the show will be Jamie Muscato as the carousel barker, Billy Bigelow, alongside Christine Allado as Julie Jordan and Rebecca Caine as Nettie Fowler. Based on the production that played at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in the summer of 2022 (though now reworked), the piece is written by Douglas Hodge (music and lyrics) and Johnny McKnight (book), from a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris. It tells the story of a couple who find themselves surrounded by a tidal wave of dogs – only for the canines in question to be then dognapped by the notorious fashionista Cruella de Vil. Actor and Steps pop icon Faye Tozer will be playing Cruella de Vil for the selection of dates that Marsh will not be appearing. These include: Norwich, Canterbury, Leicester and Wolverhampton. She said today: “Tozer said: “I’m going into my wicked era with this dream role – it really doesn’t get much better than Cruella de Vil! When they offered me the part, I just jumped at the chance. I love that it’s something people probably don’t expect me to do and can’t wait to create my own version of her for this incredible new musical.” De Vil casting for Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oxford and Brighton is to be revealed, alongside additional cast members which are yet to be announced. They are: . “Terminating, or Lass Meine Schmerzen Nicht Verloren Sein, or Ambivalence” by Tony Kushner, based on sonnet 75 “Painting You” by William Finn, based on sonnet 102 “Waiting for Philip Glass” by Wendy Wasserstein, based on sonnet 94 “The General of Hot Desire” by John Guare, based on sonnets 153 and 154 (and “The Golden Legend” by Jacobus de Voragine) . I #loved all of them BUT I was absolutely, completely, bowled over and blown away by “The General of Hot Desire,” the last in the cycle, and the one that features the whole company. Essentially, it’s about the act of creation itself, examined through the lens of several stories from the Bible. It might be my new favorite short play! . 🫖 I’m drinking…jasmine green tea from @cafetolia in Old City! Also accompanied by a delicious egg sandwich! A lovely place to sit and read! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥. The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced a new production of The Baker’s Wife – the first major UK revival since its 1989 West End premiere. Featuring a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Joseph Stein, the musical is set in a provincial French village, where the arrival of a new Baker and his younger wife turns it upside down. It is based on the 1938 French film La Femme du Boulanger by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono. Gordon Greenberg, who has recently directed on Broadway, will helm the production that will also feature choreography by WhatsOnStage Award winner Matt Cole, designs by Paul Farnsworth, lighting by Paul Anderson, musical supervision and orchestrations by Stuart Morley and musical direction by Dustin Conrad. The Baker’s Wife will run from 6th July until 14th September 2024 with casting to be announced. NEW PRODUCTION 🗞️ - A new staged production of Oscar Wilde’s comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest” has been announced, set to perform at the National Theatre (Lyttelton) from the 20th of November until the 25th of January. Initial casting includes Richard Cant (Orlando) as Reverend Canon Chasuble, Sharon D Clarke (Caroline, or Change) as Lady Bracknell, Ncuti Gatwa (The Rivals, Doctor Who) as Algernon Moncrieff, Amanda Lawrence (Angels in America) as Miss Prism, and Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) as Jack Worthing.
