Why is using compostable packing so important to us? ♻️ The major benefits to the environment of compostable packaging over standard biodegradable or recyclable packaging are that compostable packaging requires less carbon to produce, reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill, reduces levels of pollution in the air, groundwater and soil and provides the earth with life-promoting nutrients. But should you breastfeed your baby when you are ill? The answer is absolutely yes! It may be the last thing you feel like doing but in doing so your baby is less likely to contract the illness as your milk will contain antibodies to reduce the risk of them getting the same bug! Also, did you know that if you breastfeed, your baby is less likely to get ill in the first place? While it won’t completely stop baby becoming sick, breast milk’s protective properties mean breastfed babies tend to be unwell less often and recover faster, than formula-fed babies. Breast milk has antibacterial and antiviral elements. Depending on how long you breastfeed for, you’ll be lowering your baby’s risk of contracting colds and flu, ear and respiratory tract infections, sickness and diarrhoea. #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Did you know your breast milk composition changes over time? One of the many reasons it is if huge benefit to breastfeed your baby for as long as possible! The colour of your breast milk can change due certain components in your milk, your breast milk contains Millions of live cells. These include immune-boosting white blood cells, as well as stem cells, which may help organs develop and heal. More than 1,000 proteins that help your baby grow and develop. Over 200 complex sugars called oligosaccharides that act as prebiotics, feeding ‘good bacteria’ in your baby’s gut. More than 40 enzymes. Enzymes are catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in the body. Growth factors that support healthy development. These clever chemicals send messages between tissues and organs to ensure they work properly. Some help regulate your baby’s appetite and sleep patterns, and even aid the bond between you. Vitamins and minerals – nutrients that support healthy growth and organ function, as well as help build your baby’s teeth and bones. Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins. There are five basic forms of antibodies and all of them can be found in your milk. They protect your baby against illnesses and infections by neutralising bacteria and viruses. Long-chain fatty acids which play a pivotal part in building your baby’s nervous system, as well as aid healthy brain and eye development. 1,400 microRNAs, which are thought to regulate gene expression, as well as help prevent or halt disease development and support your baby’s immune system 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

PLANNING AHEAD, we think, is essential to a successful breastfeeding journey! If you are pregnant or planning on having a baby in the near future, it is a good idea to gather as much information as possible regarding feeding your baby and the benefits of such. There are many ways you can do this; talking to other experienced mama’s, reading material, internet, breastfeeding classes, midwives/lactation consultants, to name a few. Once you feel you have done a good amount of research on the benefits/what to expect/how to, you are on the road to a positive breastfeeding journey 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #informedisbest #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

At what age did your baby sleep through the night, or does your baby still wake for feeds/cuddles? Let us know in the comments! This poem by L.R Knost is so touching ♥️ Mama’s please know that it is normal for a breastfed baby to wake throughout the night for feeds; the frequency of which is individual to every baby. Look after them during the night as you would during the day. It can be extremely tough when they wake up very frequently but know that it is just a phase in your life and isn’t forever, one day you will miss those precious cuddles so take in every moment and comfort your baby when they need you 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Breastfeeding should ideally start soon after your baby is born; where possible within the first ‘magic hour’. A baby is usually alert after birth and will spontaneously seek the breast if left undisturbed in skin-to-skin contact with their mother's body. Research suggests that a mother should allow her baby to feed when the baby shows it is ready. Sometimes mothers are overwhelmed, tired and emotional after birth, often with the added pressure of lots of visitors... those first few hours with your newborn are so precious so make sure you spend that quality time alone, resting and having skin-to-skin, allowing your newborn to feed spontaneously. Skin-to-skin helps to increase milk volume by increasing your levels of the milk-making hormone oxytocin—the hormone responsible for milk ejection. Oxytocin is also known as “the love hormone”. Research also suggests that delaying your newborn’s first bath for at least 12 hours can help with breastfeeding; scientists believe that the amniotic fluid, the liquid that protects the foetus smells like their mothers breast 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Baby wearing is a lovely way to bond with your new baby, for young babies, Mum and Dad may be the only human contact Baby has had, and, for newborns especially, the only thing in this big, scary world that is even slightly familiar is Mom’s smell. Choosing an inward-facing, front carrying position, the baby can be nestled tightly to the breast, not only providing the comforting smell of warm breast milk if you’ve chosen to breastfeed, but also allowing Baby to fall soundly asleep to the regular tick-tock sound of Mom’s heartbeat that is reminiscent of the safe nine months spent inside the womb. Many parents find that carrying their babies in this manner helps to soothe and comfort them when they are upset, and can encourage sleep for tired babies who are usually too stimulated by their environment to doze off successfully. Many towns and cities have local sling libraries where you can go along and try different options to find the best one for you and your baby 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

The most common reason that women stop breastfeeding within the first 4 weeks after delivery, is the belief that they are not supplying enough breastmilk to their baby. Almost all mothers are able to produce enough milk for their baby’s needs, but being unaware about normal infant behaviours such as cluster, and frequent feedings often leads women to doubt their own bodies capability. Early and frequent feeding and responding to your baby’s cues give you the best start to establish your milk supply. 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Boobs come in all shapes and sizes... Does the size/shape of your breasts determine the amount of milk you will produce? Contrary to popular belief, the answer is no! Most women will produce enough breast milk for their baby. Although your breasts will likely grow larger before and during your breastfeeding journey, breast size is irrelevant when it comes to how much milk you produce. A mom with small breasts might have just as much milk supply as a mom with large breasts. The amount of milk you produce usually depends on how much your baby feeds – the more they feed, the more milk you’ll naturally produce 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Happy #blackbreastfeedingweek 🎉 it is the final week of #breastfeedingawarenessmonth and we proudly celebrate black women breastfeeding. For years it’s been shown that black women are less likely to initiate breastfeeding than other races. From 2000 to 2008, only 58.9 percent of black women initiated breastfeeding compared to the 75.2 percent of white women and 80 percent of Hispanics, according to the latest data from the CDC. As Black Breastfeeding Week notes on its site, there’s also some suggestion that increased breastfeeding could help lower infant mortality rates. “What we really found was that for black women, in particular, peer support models tend to be a lot more effective when there’s a sort of affinity culturally, racially between people there tends to be better support for breastfeeding,” Sangodele-Ayoka - Co Founder. For those reasons, Black Breastfeeding Week is all about encouraging black women to keep breastfeeding, connect with other breastfeeding moms, post breastfeeding selfies and more 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #celebrate #blackbreastfeedingweek #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #blackbreastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

I believe as part of a successful breastfeeding story, every mother needs support from someone. Mothers supporting and cheering each other on is invaluable! It’s not about putting others down for their choices as a parent but lifting them up when they need a friend or just telling another mama how great they are! Breastfeeding can be such a hard experience for some and the very act of breastfeeding isn’t celebrated enough! Who has been your support during the difficult times of being a mama? Tag them and let them know how grateful you are 💕 Mine was undoubtedly my business partner and my oldest friend; Gemma; whom I have learnt so much from 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #mumssupportingmums #tagafriend #womenhelpingwomen #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #womenempowerment #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Cluster feeding; this is a very important topic where breastfeeding is concerned and a topic that is often misunderstood or simply not known to a new, first time mama. It is completely normal for a newborn, breastfed baby to cluster feed or bunch feed. Cluster feeding occurs when babies want to feed more often and in a more condensed period of time. Cluster feeding happens more frequently at night. This can often lead to mother’s/concerned relatives thinking baby is ‘fussing’ or feeding ‘too often’ down to a low milk supply when this simply isn’t the case! Only around 1% of women cannot produce enough milk and so if medical reasons have been ruled out by a specialist, cluster feeding is totally normal. Feeding baby on demand and allowing them to cluster feed is so important for both you and baby as it will not only establish and increase your milk supply but also you will be fully meeting your baby’s needs. If you need support or further information on what to expect in the early days of breastfeeding or particularly on the topic of cluster feeding please always contact a lactation consultant straight away! It is also a good idea if you can to attend breastfeeding classes whilst you are pregnant so you are prepared for what’s to come before the arrival of your baby 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #breastfeedinguk #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

A good latch promotes high milk flow and minimizes nipple discomfort for the mother, whereas poor latch results in poor milk transfer to the baby and can quickly lead to sore and cracked nipples. It’s a good idea to get as much support as possible in the first few days and weeks after the birth. Have your newborn’s latch checked, ideally by a healthcare professional trained in breastfeeding support, or by a qualified lactation consultant or breastfeeding specialist. Getting things right now will help avoid problems later. This image is a quick guide on latch. Women's breasts are made of specialised tissue that produces milk as well as fatty tissue. The amount of fat determines the size of the breast. The milk-producing part of the breast is organized into 15 to 20 sections, called lobes. Within each lobe are smaller structures, called lobules, where milk is produced. The milk travels through a network of tiny tubes called ducts. The ducts connect and come together into larger ducts, which eventually exit the skin in the nipple. The dark area of skin surrounding the nipple is called the areola. Connective tissue and ligaments provide support to the breast and give it its shape. Nerves provide sensation to the breast. The breast also contains blood vessels, lymph vessels, and lymph nodes 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #environmentallyfriendly #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

The World Health Organisation recommends feeding your baby for up to two years and beyond. Here is a quote taken from the official WHO website:- ‘’Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers. Review of evidence has shown that, on a population basis, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding infants. Thereafter infants should receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond’’. On average a breastfed baby will naturally wean between the ages of 2-4 years however today’s society has made it much more common for mother’s to feel like they should wean their baby off the breast much earlier. Handy guide for any mamas about to start their breastfeeding journey. In the first week, your baby may want to feed very often. It could be every hour in the first few days. Feed your baby as often as they want and for as long as they want. They'll begin to have fewer, longer feeds after a few days. As a very rough guide, your baby should feed at least 8 times or more every 24 hours during the first few weeks. It's fine to feed your baby whenever they are hungry, when your breasts feel full or if you just want to have a cuddle. It's not possible to overfeed a breastfed baby. When your baby is hungry they may: get restless, suck their fist or fingers, make murmuring sounds or turn their head and open their mouth (rooting). It's best to try and feed your baby during these early feeding cues as a crying baby is difficult to feed 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #environmentallyfriendly #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife

Mothers’ concerns that lead them to stop breastfeeding earlier than the recommended time may be related to their expectations of how infants are supposed to behave. After generations of bottle-feeding, many families have lost the ability to pass along the wisdom and knowledge of how a normal, breastfed infant behaves. Without being taught about how long a normal, healthy baby can go between feedings, what typical sleep-wake patterns of a newborn are really like, and what babies do when they are first hungry (before they start to cry, which is a late-stage hunger cue) mothers may struggle to feel confident in their bodies’ ability to produce enough milk. Babies who are fed a breastmilk substitute typically space out feedings or sleep longer between feedings than those fed human milk because non-human milks are difficult for babies to digest. Mothers may perceive these normal needs to breastfeed more often, especially through the night, as a sign that their milk is not adequate, either in quality or quantity. This may lead to early, unnecessary supplementation, which may then be followed by a real decrease in milk production; the baby stays asleep longer while breaking down the less-digestible proteins in a breastmilk substitute, and the mother’s body does not receive the signal that more milk needs to be made. These misunderstandings, perhaps the result of incomplete or absent education about normal infant behavior or lack of availability of local breastfeeding support, often cause a mother to perceive a breastfeeding or lactation problem that may not actually be present. Believe in your body, breastfeeding is a journey for both you and your baby and it takes time for you both to get into the swing of things but with the right mindset, education, help and support it is very achievable 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #environmentallyfriendly

Doing your research into how your are going to feed your baby is a must have in your pregnancy; the formula industry is a multi million pound industry, therefore the advertising for formula is huge. Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week Day 2:- A Tree of Life photo representing life, nourishment, growth and healing through the power of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is very important to us as mama’s, we are proud, grateful and humbled by our ability to give our baby all they need through our bodies. Gemma here; I wanted to talk today about my breastfeeding journey, I didn’t have the easiest start to my journey, my daughter Aria really struggled to latch in her first few days of life, I was extremely lucky that I had the most wonderful health care assistant on hand at my local hospital, she understood how much I wanted to breastfeed Aria and that I was prepared to do anything I could to succeed, when Aria wouldn’t latch she spent over an hour hand expressing 1ml of my colostrum into a syringe to try and give to Aria in the hope she would latch on after having it, and it worked and with persistence Aria got better and better at latching on. I didn’t leave the hospital until I was confident that I knew what I was doing and I was able to get Aria to latch on by myself. My next hurdle was Aria’s shallow latch, this one took us a bit longer to overcome, I made use of the lactation consultants at my local hospital and surestart centres, they worked with us to improve Aria’s latch. This one took a lot of persistence and something that didn’t change overnight, each feed was a challenge and with time and patience everything fell into place. I really cannot thank our NHS enough for their help and support as I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. We are now 16 months into our breastfeeding journey, and I honestly couldn’t imagine it any other way. We would love to hear about your breastfeeding journey, who inspired you? What obstacles did you overcome? 🌿 #thebreastboxcompany #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmother #breastfeedingsupport #pregnant #pregnancy #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingawareness #breastfed #breastfedbaby #motivationalquotes #lactation #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #organic #nourishment #firsttimemum #ecoliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree #vegan #environmentallyfriendly #sustainable #mumtobe #nutrition #normalisebreastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedinglife
