Hi all. I’ve got something exciting for you all. It’s totally free and will aid you in creating a positive mindset about breastfeeding and your body image. I’ve created a weekly reflections document. Each day requires you to write down something positive and something you are grateful for. Weekends are planned out for self care days and would be a free writing day. However, you can use the sheets however you like! The document will be released soon over on the fb group. You can open the document and print them from there along with affirmation cards. All free to aid you in your breastfeeding journey. You can fill these in each week and have them as a keepsake to reminisce about your journey once it has ended. I hope you find them useful. I am going to print some myself and start filling them in. I wish I’d done this sooner! #breastfeedingleeds #breastfeedingsupport #positivity #positivemindset #mumssupportingmums #mentalhealth #mumlife #mindset #positivebreastfeeding #mindfulbreastfeeding #leedsmums #leedsmumsgroup #leedsmumsgroup #breastfeedingmom #newborn #pregancy #leedspregnancy #mumssupportingmumsgroup #leedswomen #parentsleeds #grateful

Skin-to-skin, often called Kangaroo Care 🦘provides numerous benefits not only during the newborn period but throughout a child's life. BONDING - skin-to-skin contact strengthens the emotional bond between parents and their child, regardless of age. It creates trust and a sense of security OXYTOCIN - Skin-to-skin initiates a 'love hormone' release which enhances emotional connection, reducing stress and increasing feelings of love and attachment COMFORT - skin-to-skin is grounding and soothing for sick or cranky toddlers. The closeness helps calm a distressed little person while promoting emotional regulation EMOTIONS - holding your child close provides a safe and nurturing environment promoting a sense of well-being PROMOTES HEALING- some studies tell us that the physical touch and emotional connection from skin-to-skin positively impacts a child's healing process during illness VITALS- even beyond the initial newborn period, skin-to-skin can help regulate a child's body temperature, heart rate, breathing and blood sugar levels. FEEDING - having your baby on your chest will help establish a rhythm with feeding, assisting with ideal latching and positioning without barriers between you or your baby. I know it can feel really scary and even reckless to let go of these things. But huge shifts can happen in our breastfeeding relationship when we take the emphasis away from external measures, and instead, tune in solely to our babies. Imagine there was no way to measure the length or frequency of feeds? Imagine there was no way to know our baby's exact weight? How would we know if they're doing okay? The most reliable information about how breastfeeding is going and how our baby is doing come from our babies themselves. Learning to trust the feedback we get from our babies helps us to build our confidence in breastfeeding, in our own motherly instincts and in our connection to our babies. It's not that these measures have zero place ever as an information tool, but they're much more helpful as an exception, rather than as a rule. It can be a process to let go of the external influences, but it can make all the difference to your journey. If you'd love to go into breastfeeding feeling confident that you have all that your baby needs, and your baby holds all the information you need, let's talk! 💗 Much Love Claudia x #breastfeedingconfidencesession .

How can our birth impact breastfeeding? When you allow your body to go into labour in its own time your birthing hormones such as oxytocin and prolactin peak during and immediately after birth. These hero hormones are not just key for a comfortable birth but also for helping with bonding and initiating successful breastfeeding. If you have had an induction or C-section birth then you can still help your body produce these hormones. Try keeping your environment calm and relaxed and having lots of skin to skin with your baby both immediately and in the weeks after birth. The magic hour and beyond is so important for this. A baby that hasn’t been exposed to any opioid pain relief will usually be born very alert, instinctively crawl to the breast if placed on their mother chest, and be able to initiate feeding. Drugs such as epidural, pethidine and anaesthetics cross into your baby’s blood stream and can make them groggy and have difficulty coordinating latching, so it’s worth keeping in mind when making pain relief choices. If you do, you may have to have a little more patience and give extra focus to your feeding position to help baby out. Many women feel discomfort after birth, especially if they have had forceps, an episiotomy or C-section. Experiment with positions that work for you, side lying is a great one for taking pressure off sore areas! Make sure you have extra pillows, or a feeding pillow, to help take the weight once you are in a comfortable position. In the early days of feeding my babies I was forever bossing my husband around telling him to wedge pillows around me as I was too scared to move when I finally got the perfect latch! Remember, if you are finding feeding painful, having concerns about your supply, or just feeling unsure, then don’t suffer in silence, reach out to a professional that can help make sure your positioning is correct and that there are no underlying issues such as tongue tie or shallow latch which might impact the efficiency of your feeding. And most importantly remember that just like in birth, you are amazing, have faith in yourself and your wonderful body and trust your instinct!

With everything going up in price these days, I thought this deserved a mention! Breastfeeding can cost you less. This is not by any means the only reason to breastfeed but it sure is a positive reason to decide to bf or to continue to do so for longer. Buying formula, bottles, sterilisers and other items can add up. The money you’d save on these could be used to treat yourself to a trip away or plenty of chocolate bars or flowers to yourself! Also, babies that are breastfed are sick less often, meaning parents have less time off work to care for them when they are Ill. My little one went to the drs this week and was given a course of antibiotics. The dr was shocked that at 4 years of age, there was hardly anything on her records and she had never had antibiotics before! 😂 It is important that employers support breastfeeding parents as it works well in their favour in terms of employee health, happiness, retention of skilled workers. It can be good for business’s and your career. Yes, breastfeeding can cost if you want to pump, buy nursing bras or want to take cake to a bf support group. However, you’ll likely save on buying expensive formula. Bf also takes time, growing a human is not easy and takes dedication. Your time is not ‘free’ and your time matters! This is why breastfeeding should not be referred to as ‘free’. It might help your bank balance though ☺️ 💛 #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmom #breastfed #decidingtobreastfeed #positivity #positivepregnancy #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedwithoutfear #breastfedbabe #mumblogger #leedsmums #bosombuddies #breastfeedinggroup #hypnobreastfeeding #positivemindset #mindfulbreastfeeding #mindfulparenting #mindfulparent #formulacosts #pumpingmom #pumpingmama #associationofbreastfeedingmothers #moneysaving #newborm #extendedbreastfeeding #returningtowork #postpartum #postpartumbody

It is well known that bonding with baby in various ways can help with breastfeeding. Having that skin to skin, eye contact and more creates that release of oxytocin to help your milk supply. What about bonding with baby even before they are born? I remember both my pregnancies well and I worked throughout both of them. I remember feeling like I always had a little friend with me at work, one of my family members all safe and snug inside 🥰 In the evenings, I made sure that I allowed myself to have some bonding time with my unborn child. I really enjoyed it. Some things I would do were: Talk to my baby Sing to my baby Massage oil onto my bump As they grew bigger, I would tap their feet when they pushed them outwards 😂 Read them a story Listen to music together and feel baby movements (apparently they like classical music best) There are so many more things you can do and you can get siblings involved to grow their bond also. I remember sitting watching a movie with my daughter, my son (unborn) and she piled popcorn onto my bump to share 🥰 we all ate popcorn from my bump 😂 such lovely memories. 🍿🤰 I used to tell my babies how I was going look after them. I don’t specifically remember telling them I would breastfeed them but that was part of the care they’d receive. All of this helped me bond with baby before birth. I think for most, you love them before they arrive in your arms. Everyone is different though and these activities might help you bond while pregnant. Perhaps some are scared to bond before birth due to the risks involved. Maybe you could start to bond more throughout the third trimester. Did you bond with your unborn baby? Positive Breastfeeding Story 💛🤱 “After a fairly straightforward birth we were discharged from the hospital the next day. At day 3 we had a midwife visit and they found my baby had lost over 12% of her birth weight and were concerned, we were put on a feeding plan (triple feeding) which was exhausting and did this for a few days. Unfortunately they decided to re-admit us to the postnatal ward as she hadn’t re-gained any substantial amount of weight at day 5 and I was completely exhausted and very overwhelmed. We were discharged again two days later but again she lost some weight after discharge so we were advised to move solely to expressed bottle feeding. After a couple of days she gained weight from this and eventually a midwife suggested she might have tongue tie. I felt I couldn’t wait on the NHS lists because I was feeling so exhausted so we paid privately and she had her posterior tongue tie snipped. It took another two weeks to get her off nipple shields and feeding without needing top ups. Since then she has even gone on to refuse the bottle entirely and absolutely thrived breastfeeding. It’s now almost 9 months on and we are still breastfeeding with no intention of stopping anytime soon. In the early days of the feeding plans and her loosing weight, I was extremely distressed and felt at breaking point so many times wanting to give up. I hadn’t realised how important breastfeeding was to me before having my baby until I thought it was going to be taken from me. It was a really difficult first few weeks but I’m so glad I persevered and have had a really positive breastfeeding journey since and feel so lucky.” Thank you for sharing @rooby_ruth. You had support of both public and private healthcare. Your determination and positivity shined through during those early days. Amazing! I hope your journey will continue to be positive. #breastfeeding #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingpeersupport #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingmom #determination #breastfeedingleeds #breastfeeding_leeds #breastfeedwithoutfear #breastfeedingsupport #pregnancy #postpartum #breastfedbaby #positivebirthmovement #positivebreastfeeding

Skin-to-skin contact is commonly used in breastfeeding to help facilitate the bonding between mother and baby and to support successful breastfeeding. When a baby is placed skin-to-skin with their mother, several benefits can be observed: ❤️Promotes bonding: Skin-to-skin contact fosters emotional bonding between you and your baby ❤️ Regulates body temperature: Newborn babies have difficulty regulating their body temperature, and being in direct contact with the mother's warm skin helps to stabilise body temperature. ❤️Stimulates breastfeeding: Skin-to-skin contact has been shown to enhance the initiation of breastfeeding. It helps trigger the baby's natural instincts to seek the breast, latch on, and begin breastfeeding successfully. ❤️Enhances milk production: The close contact and stimulation provided by skin-to-skin contact can promote the release of hormones that stimulate milk production, helping to establish a good milk supply. ❤️Reduces stress and crying: Being held skin-to-skin has a soothing effect on babies, reducing their stress levels and promoting a calm and relaxed state. This can lead to reduced crying and increased contentment and can be so useful particularly in the 4th trimester when your baby is adapting from their womb world to their new world. #breastfeedingsupport #ibclc #lactationconsultant #buckinghamshiremums #mumstobe #buckinghamshireparents #pregnancy #breastfeedingeducation #havingababy #antenatal #expecting #amerhsam #highwycombe #birthpreparation #antenatal classes #nctantenatalclasses #nctantenatal #birthpreparation #positivebreastfeeding #duein2023 #newparent #newbaby #breastfeedingmums #antenatal #skintoskin

Did you know that collecting your colostrum antenatally may be one of the best ways you can prepare for your baby? And much more important perhaps than all that shopping and decorating before your baby’s arrival if you are planning to breastfeed. Hand expressing your colostrum antenatally is thought to be safe from around 36-37 weeks of pregnancy. Often there are concerns that collecting your colostrum will be depriving your baby of the colostrum at the time of birth but the breasts will refill after each expression. Although Antenatal colostrum harvesting is typically recommended for women who may have certain medical conditions such as gestational diabetes, insulin dependent diabetes or are at higher risk of complications which may result in being separated for a short while from baby, many mothers like to collect just in case their baby does not take to the breast immediately. Of course there is always the option to hand express at the time of birth but collecting antenatally is almost like an insurance policy to have colostrum with you should you need it. I personally am a big fan of antenatal colostrum harvesting so at the very least mothers have had an opportunity to practice hand expressing should their babies not attach at the breast initially. The research suggests that around 25% of mothers will not yield anything antenatally. Being able to collect colostrum antenatally is not in any way a reflection of how much milk you will have postnatally. However, practicing beforehand will really help you master this skill should you need it at the time of birth. So, around 36-37 weeks gestation get yourselves some 1ml syringes and have a go. Remember please do not get stressed if you don’t manage to collect it straight away but freeze any you manage to get and follow safe storage and safety guidelines. #breastfeedingsupport #ibclc #lactationconsultant #buckinghamshiremums #buckinghamshireparents #pregnancy #breastfeedingeducation #havingababy #antenatal #expecting #amerhsam #highwycombe #birthpreparation #antenatal classes #nctantenatalclasses #nctantenatal #birthpreparation #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedingmums #antenatalcolostrumharvesting

Let’s take a moment to look at some of the emotional benefits of breastfeeding. So often we focus on the nutritional benefits our babies gain from being breastfed, but there are also some INCREDIBLY important and noteworthy emotional aspects of breastfeeding that not only benefit our babies, but also us as breastfeeding mums. I think we refer to breastfeeding as a journey for a reason. There are ups and down and times when we experience a full range of emotions. I also think our bodies are incredibly and have the strength and ability to calm, center us, and connect us to our babies. Wherever you are in your breastfeeding journey I hope you have been able to experience some of these emotional benefits, and know that your baby definitely has too. #breastfeedingmum #breastfeedingfacts #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedingaustralia #madetomilk #lactation #expectingmum #lactationsupport #mumsupportmums

I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person that does yoga every day & you know one of those 80 year olds that still does yoga & swims all the time. I know of it’s benefits for your body & mind and how good I feel after I’ve been to a yoga class in the past. I’ve tried challenges to do yoga every day for 30 days & the most I ever got to was day 17. I’ve tried a weekly yoga class but wasn’t keen on the teacher & the repetition of the same class every week. The most amazing yoga experiences I’ve had is my pregnancy yoga & restorative yoga after I had my son - which just left me feeling incredibly looked after & comforted as a new mother. I’ve even done the most incredible yoga day retreat & left full of intention to continue my practice every day after that. I made it about a week. For the last few weeks I’ve been using the @yogahappy app by @hannahbarrettyoga and I think I may have cracked it - My love for yoga, the benefits on the mind, soul and body are being felt every single day 🙏🏻 But not because of the app… (Continued in comments)

🤱 Breastfeeding is so SO much more than feeding. It is nurture, comfort, safely, warmth, pain relief, emotional and physical regulation. Its also time for you, as a mother to connect with yourself, your baby and to REST! To sit, have a moment to refuel & hydrate yourself. To look into the eyes of the person who kept you awake all night and to forgive them and remember that this hard work will soon pass and you might even shed a tear at the thought of missing this closeness. For many, no matter how long their boobing journey lasts, its a time so special that marking it with beautiful pieces of jewellery or perhaps even a piece of art feels so right! Did you know on my 6 week course we talk about options for feeding, more about making informed choices for your post partum and tips to cope with your new baby, your new life, your new roles and responsibilities and your mental health & relationships. POSTPARTUM Finally this stage in life is getting lots of attention. That first three months of your baby’s life is probably one of the most challenging and miraculous months of your life. I saw a lady with a small baby in the parking lot of Bunnings yesterday unloading her bub from the car to the pram. She looked very tired and really sad in that moment. I stopped my car and spoke to her. I let her know it will get easier, and as all mums of my generation say. It will be over in a flash. Her face lit up and that made my day. I’d so love to be cuddled up in bed with my two grown daughters again as babies. I’d be so happy they were waking me all night long wanting to feed. 🌸 I’m not downplaying your experience of suffering and sleep deprivation. Just merely trying to give you another view. ❤️ I teach a fantastic Positive Breastfeeding and Early Preparation workshop if you’d like to be prepared for postpartum. I’d also like to suggest learning to massage your baby. This is a real game changer for many families. Reposted with permition from my friend @mrsbeckenhampayne 1000 days today we have shared our breastfeeding journey. I know its not a usual milestone to celebrate but I am absolutely going to celebrate this. We had a really tough start with tongue tie that never got revised due to lockdown, I was in agony and bled for months and only managed one face to face support session before the world stopped. I cried in pain every time he latched and felt like giving up so many times. I knew all the correct things to do in theory, I'd read everything, fed my eldest for 27 months, surely I was a pro. I was devastated at the thought of not being able to feed him myself. But I remembered a friend @miriamfeenlactationcentre who is an expert in all things breastfeeding and with her support online, and with constant help and support from Ricky and Roxanna, something clicked and it got a bit easier each day. My aim was 2 years as recommended by WHO and I am so happy and proud that we are still going to natural term now. I have breastfed him every day of his life, throughout illnesses and a pandemic. It is his comfort, nutrition and so much more. Happy 1000 days my darling boy. #1000days #extendedbreastfeeding #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedingtoddler #breastfeedingtoddlers #breastfeedingrelationship #mumandtoddler #mumandsons #feedingsupport #feedingrelationships #connectionmatters #bondingwithbaby #bondingwithkids #mysonismyworld #27monthsold #breastfeedingmilestone #breastfeedingmilestones #naturaltermbreastfeeding #naturalinstincts #breastfeedingbeyondinfancy #first1000days #importanceoftime #supportparents #ibclcsupport #lactationconsultant #positivebreastfeeding #babyledfeeding

Emily’s breastfeeding journey ✨Thanks for sharing @e.m.m.smith My biggest reflection from Em’s story and my own as an allergy mum is “Trust your gut”. There’s 100% an innate mama instinct, so if you are given medical advice that doesn’t feel right - remember you know your baby best and it’s ok to ask questions for clarification or to seek a second opinion ❤️ #mothering #breastfeedingwithallergies #mumlife #baby #breastfeedingjourney #blinkandyoumissit #cmpa #cmpi #dairyfree #dairyfreebreastfeeding #nurturing #positivebreastfeeding #informedisbest #postpartumadvice #postpartum #breastfeedingchallenges #wollongongmumsandbubs #illawarramums

Yes! You most certainly can! You are just as likely to be able to breastfeed as those that have a vaginal birth. Milk may come in slower but you will still be producing colostrum. If your c-section is planned, you may be able to express or ‘harvest’ your colostrum. You can usually do this from 37 weeks of pregnancy. You can use this colostrum if your baby needs extra feeds, until your milk comes in. Tips to help after a c-section: 1.Skin to skin 2.Feed on demand 3.Ask for help from your midwife if you are having trouble feeding baby in hospital. 4.They can help you hand express or pump milk. 5.Don’t be afraid to ask for help 6.Get help with picking up and putting down baby 7.Get help around the house so you can focus on rest and recovery 8.Talk to dr or midwife about pain relief 9.Join a breastfeeding support group 10. Boost your mood with things you enjoy If you’ve had a c-section or any other birth interventions and you breastfed or currently breastfeed then please do get in touch. I would love to have some positive real life stories to share with our breastfeeding_Leeds community. 💛 #breastfeedingleeds #breastfeeding #breastfeeding_leeds #leedsbreastfeeding #leedsbreastfeedingsupport #peertopeer #mumtomum #mumfriends #leedscommunity #leedsmumsgroup #leedsparent #pregnantleeds #leedslife #leedsbirth #leedshypnobirthing #hypnobirthingleeds #babyweekleeds #feedingbaby #csection #selfcare #newmums #positivebreastfeeding #yorkshiremum #mumblog #mumbloggeruk #breastisbestifyoucan #beststartinlife #babynutrition #leedsmama #exclusivebreastfeeding

Where are the resources and emotional support for the women who are struggling with breastfeeding? It can be devastating when it’s just not working - and given the breastfeeding rates - that’s a LOT of women. If you stop nursing it can feel like you’re caught between two worlds and you’ve dropped off the lactation support radar. Those emotions can be overwhelming - millions of women are experiencing this - yet it’s not talked about in the breastfeeding books or classes. Mindful Breastfeeding is about to disrupt the breastfeeding preparation world. #biologicalnurturing #breastfeeding #mindfulpregnancy #mindfulbreastfeeding #pregnant #positivebirth #positivebreastfeeding #mentalhealth #laidbackbreastfeeding @suzannecolsonbn #bottlefeeding #shame #formulafeeding

**NEW** Empowered Breastfeeding Workshop So after all our discussions in Mum & Baby Yoga this week (and a huge thanks to everyone for being so open and honest about their experiences - it's a highly emotive subject understandably). I've decided to add an extra element LIVE to my Hypnobirthing & Antenatal Course (in addition to my online postnatal course you get too). So you'll get this for FREE in addition to the in person weekend. I really want to help empower you antenatally to understand breastfeeding, all the different positions, all of your choices, and the support you may need to do this. Plus how to support your nervous system to help breastfeeding, and how to advocate for yourself too when you're really exhausted and can feel hugely pressured. It will be straight talking, no BS, evidence based & reassuring. We'll do this workshop via Zoom, and I'll be posting times & dates soon. So if you've already been on my Hypnobirthing & Antenatal course and not had baby yet this is for you. As well as people with booked courses coming up. If you're not on a course (why the heck not?!) you'll be able to pay for the workshop too - with that money going to a womens charity. Also I've just signed up to volunteer at the hospital to support new mothers on the postnatal ward too with feeding with the brilliant Treasure Chest (who I peer support with) More details to follow. But THANK YOU to all of you - you've inspired me to do both of these things. And I hope it will help some mothers and babies in the future reach their breastfeeding goals. Please do still attended the very excellent Treasurechest Antenatal Workshops though - which are super excellent and also free. How to prepare for Breastfeeding? It may be this big confusing new or even scary thing BUT do not fret. There are many things you can do to help make your breastfeeding journey easier. Here our my top 6 things I recommend to prepare for your breastfeeding journey: 1. EDUCATION: on benefits, normal behaviours of a breastfeeding baby this will help give you confidence. A breastfeeding class or book to learn this are both great options. 2. POSITIVITY: it seems straight forward, but all the work to stay positive during your birth that positivity needs to be brought into your breastfeeding journey. Surround yourself with people who are pro breastfeeding and have worked thru issues with a positive outcome. 3. SUPPORT: Know and research your local breastfeeding support. Facebook groups, lactation consultant’s. My DM’s are always open and I will help if I can. 4. ANTENATAL HAND EXPRESSION: Start learning this technique from 36 weeks, store colostrum collected in freezer. 5. PURCHASES: Ensure you have your pump purchased, lanolin, nursing bras, milk storage bags. You don’t wanted added stress while you and baby are learning to breastfeed. 6. PLAN: Have a plan/goal and expect a curve ball. Yes things may go perfectly without a wrinkle but be prepared for them not to. Breastfeeding is more than cracked nipples, sleepless nights and leaky breasts. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #breastfeeding #breastfeedingprep #breastfeedingpreparation #breastmilk #breastisbest #positivity #positivebirth #positivebreastfeeding #mom #momtobe #expectingmom #expectingababy #expectingmother

Yes, For HIV mothers to breastfeed they must have started their antiretroviral drugs earlier before delivery. After delivery, the baby should be placed on Antiretroviral drugs within the first 24hrs. #hiv #hivawareness #hivpositive #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeeding #mother #baby #newmom #preventativehealth

⚠️ Trigger warning I've thought long and hard about sharing positive breastfeeding stories. On one hand, there are many mothers and parents out there who have been let down, either biologically or by the lack of support around them. This then leads to all kinds of emotions; guilt, anger, sadness, grief... Sadly the statistics say that this is about 8/10 mothers. These stories are not to be seen as 'this is what you could have had'. I'd advise caution with reading these if you have had a really difficult time with breastfeeding. Instead, get support. Talking services, speak with a lactation specialist if you need to debrief, Amy Browns 'why breastfeeding grief matters' book are all measures that can help you rebuild the blocks and heal from the grief you may be carrying. My reasoning for deciding to share this (with a trigger warning) is that so often, pregnant people are quickly told horror stories about birth and breastfeeding and it can quickly imprint a really negative idea of what it may be like. In my job, I've seen sooo many people truly love breastfeeding. Yet during pregnancy, people usually say 'I want to *try* breastfeeding' with an element of doubt from negative stories they've already heard. Going in with a positive, realistic mindset can be a game changer, especially in those early days. So here we are, a little positivity for your day today. But if swiping right isn't for you, that's absolutely the right thing for you and that's OK ❤️ My thoughts whilst writing this; how can it be, that in this day and age, there are still so many mothers let down by services that were supposed to support them? How is it possible that I need to write a trigger warning to a positive feeding story and signpost to therapy and grief resources? How have we got to this. Norway have a government who truly invest in breastfeeding and their stats show it. It shouldn't be this hard for mothers to have accurate information to feed their baby's. *sigh* Rant over (for now) 👀 and feeling blessed to work with a community of people who strive to protect breastfeeding and support families every single day. We need more of you guys 💜 #breastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding

MILK IS MY SUPERPOWER ✨ okay so I’m a little late to the party, but it’s still #worldbreastfeedingweek ❤️ and as someone who has had an incredibly positive experience, it’s important for me to share. I’m not saying it’s been easy, but I am so so proud of myself and Hudson for getting this far (and counting!). I appreciate that it’s not this way for everyone, but I think it’s important for me to celebrate our successes on such an important week! I collected colostrum from 37 weeks (If you want advice on this, I’m happy to chat!) which I honestly think is the thing that set us up for success. Hudson latched instantly from birth; and I already had a good supply of milk thanks to doing it. I never put any pressure on myself to breastfeed, saying that I’d love to get to 6 weeks but if it didn’t work, then I’d have moved straight onto a bottle. I sit here 18 months later, still feeding and hoping to get to 2 years! I’m so proud of us, and the incredible support we’ve had from my amazing husband @davesmith87 My lowest point was most certainly when I had blocked milk ducts, which was agony, and incredibly demeaning (dangle feeling is as bad as it sounds), and I HATE pumping (and anyone who tells you breastfeeding shouldn’t hurt in the first couple of weeks has nipples of steel). But the positives make it all worth it. The best thing when your little one is poorly (Hudson was really poorly with covid) is knowing you can comfort them as well as providing them with magic antibodies to help them heal ❤️ If anyone is struggling or ever wants anyone to chat to, my DMs are open. And @gbsngroups are an incredible support network across Gloucestershire! Also follow @thebreastfeedingmentor if you’re looking for incredible support + positivity 🙌🏼 #worldbreastfeedingweek #breastfeedingweek #breastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedingatoddler #18months #extendedbreastfeeding #toddler #toddlerlife #toddlermum

When it’s about the journey, not the destination 👌🏼 . . As it’s #nationalbreastfeedingmonth in August, it seems somewhat fitting that myself and Ada’s breastfeeding journey has come to an end, a little over a year after it started. It’s been a really lovely and easy experience for me and I’ll be forever grateful for that. This is one of my favourite pictures of me feeding Ada, captured by the camera skills of the amazing Sarah @housebythewhitethorns (you might recognise those curious curly heads) and I think it sums up our experience beautifully. We just got on with it, we had ups, we had downs and it was all alright. We have a happy baby and a happy mammy. I’d love to hear your stories in the comments; at the end of the day, all we can do is our best with it all and that’s ay 👌🏼 . . . . . #breastfeeding #mybreastfeedingjourney #nationalbreastfeedingmonth #august #momlife #mamamoo #breastfeedingsupport #mumsofinstagram #feedingbaby #feedingjourney #positivebreastfeeding

It's National Breastfeeding Week this week and this year's theme is support 🍈🍈 Even though I have breastfed both of my children (including a very brief attempt at tandem feeding) I don't post about it much. I didn't have a journey so I feel I don't have much to add to the conversation. I wanted to breastfeed, I tried and it worked. No pain, weight gain, latch or supply issues. I was very lucky in that respect. I was also fortunate to have an incredibly good support network around me - even through lockdown 🔐 My village knew the breastfeeding ropes and if I needed help I could have accessed it easily. This is not the case for the majority of women, we know that over 80% of women say they want to breastfeed while they are pregnant, but by 6 months less than 5% of babies are breastfed. Women who want to breastfeed are being let down when they aren't adequately supported if they come up against issues that could be solved with the right professional support. This leads many women to end their breastfeeding journey before they might want to. Yes, some women can't breastfeed and some women don't want to but this isn't about that. A fed baby is the end goal, but much like having birth trauma minimised by saying "at least you are both alive" not having the feeding journey you want shouldn't be minimised by saying "at least baby is fed". Support is key to a good infant feeding journey that's why I prefer "informed and supported is best". Women and families should be able to make the decisions for feeding their baby, with readily available support and information. No-one should have to end their breastfeeding journey before they are ready to simply because the resources they needed weren't available. ... #nationalbreastfeedingweek #breastfeeding #informedandsupported #infantfeeding #breastfedbaby #exclusivelybreastfeeding #ebf #breastfeedwithoutfear #breastfeedinginpublic #breastfeedingmama #milkmakingmama #breastfedbabe #tandemnursing #nursingmama #healthvisitor #infantfeedingspecialist #breastfeedingjourney #positivebreastfeeding #breastmilk #2under2life #breastfedbabyproblems #breastfeedingproblems #breastfeedingstruggles #breastfeedingawareness

Let’s talk new mummy posture 🤱🏼 Something I see so much in new mums is tension around the neck and shoulders. Usually more one side than the other - although both chronically tight. It’s no wonder - we’ve suddenly got this bundle of love to cuddle and look adoringly at and keep fed! This results in fixation in some of the joints in the neck, tension in the muscles under the base of the skull, rounded shoulders, shortened pecs, traps and so much more! There is so much that can be done to support you and your body in this phase. Going to see a chiropractor can really help this transition and mange some of the discomfort and help with tips going forward. The key thing being - prolonged posture (anything over 45ish minutes) we want to change that position regularly. If you’re bottle feeding remember to have baby both sides - this will also help baby to have a happy neck! If breastfeeding try lots of different positions - reclined, rugby hold, side laying. This will help to prevent tension building just in one area. #mummychiro #newmama #newmummy #chiropractor #femalechiropractor #womeninchiropractic #innateintelligence #breastfeeding #positivebreastfeeding #breastfeedingposture #healthiswealth #healthy

We started our breastfeeding journey by expressing syringes of colostrum from 37 weeks pregnant and this really helped in the early days with Rudi’s tongue tie while we were establishing feeding. I also found it useful while we had visitors to make things a little more stress-free for me. ⁣ ⁣ We’ve recently introduced a dummy to Rudi to help him settle between feeds without always needing to get comfort from being latched onto me. Along with introducing an expressed bottle each evening to get him used to having a expressed milk if I’m out or need to a rest. It just gives me a little bit more freedom for when I am ready to leave him for a couple of hours. Neither have given Rudi any confusion and he’s still breastfeeding wonderfully despite having the bottle and dummies, I’m sure this is down to using @nanobebe as we’ve found these the closest to a nipple and breast that we can get! ⁣ ⁣ I’m so pleased we’ve had the right support and I’ve learnt so much this time to have a positive breastfeeding journey 🤱🏼💙⁣ ⁣ *Gifted products*

I feel as though this is such an important message to share! No matter who you are and how old your child is… your breastfeeding journey will evolve and have different stages! For example, you could have a really hard time latching your newborn but then have a seemingly effortless breastfeeding experience for the next year. Likewise, your baby could latch from day one but then you find challenges during the teething stages or even into toddlerhood. And that is OKAY. As a breastfeeding parent, it is so important to have that sense of resilience with facing challenges in your journey and to just be aware of the type of changes you may face so that you are not discouraged when that time comes. This is especially helpful so that you can avoid weaning before you or your child is ready. This is YOUR journey, and no matter what the challenge, you are STRONG enough to overcome it. If you or someone you know is truly struggling with their breastfeeding journey, whether it’s an illness, perception or developmental issue then I highly recommend seeking help in a lactation specialist in your area. You can seek help through an IBCLC that works at a local hospital, your pediatrician’s office or even a lactation counselor that does home visits. These are all great resources. You can also call these hotline numbers: US Department of Health Breastfeeding Helpline: 1-800-994-9662 La Leche League: Helplines are available for many individual countries through their website: https://www.llli.org #breastfeeding #breastfeedinginfo #breastfeedingmama #lactation #lactationsupport #breastfeedinginspiration #positivebreastfeeding #formoms #momsofinstagram #postpartumwellness #postpartum #postpartumsupport #breastfeedingjourney #moms #momssupportingmoms
