You can tell parenting has changed since the 1980’s. I was speaking to a lady I coach and she said that her son had made a mess of the peanut butter and had just found it on several door handles. Her son is twelve. ‘Oh dear, what are you going to do?’ I asked ‘I’m going to take away the peanut butter’. ‘Is that it?’ ‘Yes, whys that?’ She replied. ‘That sounds cushty. You know what happened to me don’t you. Mum whacked me with the wooden spoon and it snapped. The solution was to replace the spoon with a purpose made paddle that was designed for hitting kids.
