I just had my phone remind me that 12 years ago I submitted my university dissertation, and it really made me stop and think about how my life has not panned out at all in the way I thought it would, and I’m actually pretty thankful. I thought I’d have my own sculpture studio, making use of my degree, creating art for craft fairs and living near Bristol. I thought I might be married and have a bunch of rescue animals to look after. Instead I’m single, with a career in Finance, lots of new friends and a tiny place in London that’s been home for 5 years now. Society tries pretty hard to make you feel like you’ve failed if you’re alone, people ask when you’ll meet someone or say you’re too picky, and you start to think that there’s something wrong with you. But actually, I have love in a different way, from the best of friends and family. If my life had followed the path I thought it might, I wouldn’t have met many of you, had the opportunity to travel, or seen so many of these incredible things that I didn’t even know existed in 2012. Dag 2 Merzouga Desert: Vilken dag 💫🙏🥰 Så mkt upplevelser för alla på kort tid. Idag har vi bland annat varit på Rissani Market. Där fick gruppen uppleva lokal berber marknad på riktigt. Vi besökte bl a berber pharmacy, kryddor, örtapotek, dadlar, berber klädbutik mm. En uppskattad upplevelse! Väl i campet samlades vi för yoga och meditation. recently, i spent time with three different tea makers across thailand to understand more about cha yen, the famous thai milk tea, and the people who make it. first, i met kyawkyawmin, who has been living in thailand for 28 years and making tea here for 20. originally from myanmar, a country which he doubts he will ever return to, he supplies tea to the mostly burmese local town population. he helps other burmese with their work permits and gives away all leftover food at the end of the day, forming a special burmese tea community. then, i met this wonderful 31 year old lady who is the third generation to run her tea shop, and most likely the last. she told me that the “younger generation wants to do other things than tea,” but for now, she will continue to spend her time making cha yen nonetheless. and finally i met tuk, who has been running her tea stall for 14 years. 57 years old and single and with no children, she dedicates herself to her small business, making the classic cha yen with a mix of black and oolong tea, condensed milk, and ice for the hot weather. it’s delicious, and worth every second of my cha yen search.
After a lot of procrastination and burying my head in the sand due to being somewhat utterly overwhelmed by my new life in the last month... High-content wolfdog Draco is 9 years old today! When we first heard of Draco (formerly named “Koda”) he was living as a pet in Colorado. He was only 2 years old and although his owners loved him, his natural behaviors were becoming a problem for them. Like any wolf or high-content wolfdog, Draco has a song to sing and he would howl loudly throughout the day and night. It wasn’t long before the neighbors had enough and complained to Animal Control, who gave his owners two options: re-home him or he’ll be confiscated. Desperate to provide a good life for their beloved wolfdog, his owners reached out to various sanctuaries to see if anyone could help him. Soon Draco’s story had made its way through the wolfdog rescue network and the team at W.O.L.F. Sanctuary thought of us. Their sanctuary was at capacity, but the rescue coordinator had been touched by Draco’s story and the unfairness of his situation and was determined to find him rescue. When W.O.L.F. reached out to the Wild Spirit Team, we had 3 single female wolfdogs who needed companions and hoped Draco could be the perfect match for one of our girls and have his life saved at the same time. Hoping for the best, Wild Spirit staff set out for Colorado to bring our newest rescue home to the sanctuary. Once in Colorado, staff instantly saw how much Draco’s owners cared for him and wanted the best for their wolfdog. After a meet-and-greet, Draco was loaded into the rescue van without issue and our team prepared to make the trip home. Draco left Colorado and his old life behind, and he also left his name there, too. Draco was previously known as “Koda”, but we already had animals named Kota, Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota, so we felt that a new name was necessary. Not only was Draco young enough to learn a new name, we felt that changing his moniker could give him an entirely fresh start for his new life! After much brainstorming, we settled on Draco. Draco now lives with his long-time companion, female mid-content wolfdog Leia.

We were really torn between Bandung and Malang when planning our trip to Indonesia. The former had some epic tea fields that you could scooter around to, while the latter had Mt. Bromo (where apparently the sunrise view of this active volcano was similarly epic). What tipped the scales for us (well, me) was that there was also the so-called Rainbow Village @kampung_warna_warni in Malang, a once-impoverished neighborhood that became a tourism hot-spot in the region (as is increasingly the case throughout the world) thanks to some community-minded college students and lots of buckets of paint. Our shy girl Mika is 12 years old today! Mika was originally owned by a well-known wolfdog breeder in Indiana along with nearly 20 other animals. However, due to personal reasons, Mika’s owner decided to move to a different state in which wolfdog ownership was illegal. As a result, she was forced to find new homes for all her animals. While many of the animals in this person’s collection were highly sought-out due to their unique coloration or other desirable traits, some of the older or less social animals were unwanted, and though Mika’s owner attempted to find private homes for all her animals, Mika garnered no interest as either a breeding animal or a pet, likely as a result of her senior age classification and lack of sociability. As such, Wild Spirit reached out to offer her a home, where we hoped she might be a good match for one of our single males. During our initial conversations with Mika’s owner, she offered to surrender a young female mid-content wolfdog named Stigma, knowing we had multiple single males in need of companions, and knowing Stigma would also be undesirable due to her shy nature. We agreed to the intake of both females and soon made the trip from New Mexico to Indiana to pick them up and bring them home. Fortunately, despite being extremely shy with strangers, both animals were very trusting of their owner, making their pickup quick and simple, as their owner simply leashed them up and loaded them into our rescue van, safe and secure for the long drive home. Today, Mika shares her life with high-content wolfdog Cinder, who has helped her learn to trust one of his own favorite Caretakers, allowing Mika an opportunity to overcome her shy nature on her own terms. Big Career Win: FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!! Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary was awarded a $50,000 grant by the New Mexico Tourism Department!! With this money, @wildspiritwolfsanctuary will be able to expand and improve its campground. Specifically, we’ll be able to cater to those who would prefer to forgo tent camping and opt for glamping instead, as well as improving our setup for RVs! What’s absolutely absurd, in the last year I’ve brought in over $100,000 for Wild Spirit in grants alone. 🤯 I’m proud of this accomplishment. We apply to many, many more grants than we’re awarded, but moments like this make every exhausting hour of writing and rejection worth it.
