We had one day to see pyramids and I knew it'd be worth the trip to see the Saqqara Necropolis and the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Is it out of the way: Most definitely. But the drive gives you time to see different parts of Egypt and recoup after walking around elsewhere. Is it quieter: 100%. A lot of people stop at The Great Pyramids and call it good. (Understandably so. After seeing those, you're pretty wiped out the rest of the day) Chances are, there will be fewer tourists and you'll be able to move around/see more. Is it worth it: Depends what your threshold is for tombs and temples. I've been hooked learning about these sites since I was a kid so nothing was going to stop me. I will say that our tour guide Muhammed was fantastic and there were so many special details about the Saqqara sites that I'd still recommend it to anyone. Any cons?: Give yourself a day of rest after! It is TIRING and you're absorbing a lot of information.
