Day 6 of travel, saw us cross another boarder! Girls were super excited and did their "state dance" we saw some lovely painted silos along the way. It was another big day travel for us from Murray bridge to geelong. We had a variety of weather that we have driven through. WE MADE IT 🙌 Our second Border Crossing straight through the middle and straight through the Fire Zone!! Us Macs sure know how to make Trax, especially through a freshly opened up Highway after fire has raged through 😬 Weve been waiting for a more coastal highway to open up. Waiting and watching the live traffic apps hoping we could get south to see this beautiful coastline that we haven’t seen yet (the Gippsland). Then finally we got a break through, to come across the Imlay Road and down the Monaro Highway saving us hundreds of kms and hours. Weren’t looking forward to the huge Canberra reroute down the Hume Highway!!! 😩 So here we are!!! We were in total shock the whole drive, seeing the impact of these fires. So so sad to see how many beautiful National Parks are totally destroyed and wildlife lost 😔 It had an eerie ghost town feel most of the drive but we were safe. The biggest catastrophe we encountered was Kiedis getting car sick on the windy roads and power chucked all over himself and the car seat 🤮 then being welcomed by what felt like a 5 degree nite 🥶😭 ... After paddling 10 kms retired to tinny to give B some company. A beautiful day with a little breeze to keep cool. River running at 2 kts so easy paddling but still need to keep at it to keep up with the big kids! On day 1 we got our search and rescue practice out of the way early . Blowing at least 25 kts and gusting ,Gypsy and I threw ourselves over the side of kayak doing a 360 . It was in the interests of keeping the scene authentic that we were pushed against a runabout with anchor lines and moorings lines while being swirled around by the current and the wind. The team quickly rallied to our dilemma and with great calls of “ swim to the beach Mag, keep swimming!” I reached the banks towing kayak .Gypsy Moth mean while had jumped clear and arrived on beach with me. In no time Bridgit had wrapped a towel around me , my boyfriend had got me to the tinny and into warm dry clothes . And seconds later a steaming hot mug of tea was thrust into my hand. Jonny did a great job reassuring Gypsy this was a once only and would not be happening again! Top marks to the team they did a sterling job .👍😂😳👍👍👍😳 My camera was in a special wet bag and was floating in air lock under kayak. After initial despair it had gone to bottom of river I was ecstatic it had survived!
