A new report by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), published today (17.4.24), reveals rising numbers of pre-school children with communication difficulties in Northern Ireland, with many of them waiting too long for speech and language therapy. Complex communication needs among children under the age of five are also on the increase. Unsupported speech, language, and communication issues in the early years have a lifelong impact on children, affecting their ability to learn, form friendships, remain in education, and their potential to find employment. The RCSLT is, therefore, calling on the Northern Ireland Health Minister to fund more speech and language therapists in order to tackle the early years communication crisis. I often hear in conversation how doctors are wrong, how terrible or inadequate our waiting times are, or perhaps the advice they give. Ive no doubt mistakes are made and covid has left its impact on funding and waiting times But just a reminder its not a doctors job to make you healthy - its your job. Theres many ways to obtain improved health and your doctor may well be part of that Medication or a course of treatments Lifestyle advice Or to diagnose whats really going on But stop blaming them for the work you didnt do. They do their best to cure us and help us Mistakes are sometimes made But their system or methods isnt always what is wrong The world we live in is The food we are eating The lack of exercise in many peoples world.. Its not their responsibility to prioritise your health - its yours. The NHS will undoubtedly offer what it can but why wait to fix the problem rather than do everything you can to look after yourself in the first place. Stop focusing on how they should make us better and do some of that work yourself 💪❤️ Your future self is relying on it.
