We ran out of oil on the day it started snowing 🙄 🥶. Wrapped in a thousand layers and a hot water bottle on my lap, I set to work practising wax carving. It's totally absorbing. Add a good podcast or audiobook, and I'm off for hours filing, carving, and polishing away. The ring isn't finished yet. Hij wou iets voor haar.💕 Niet te fijn, niet te gewoon, ik mocht er mijn ding mee doen. Wat wel moest; drie steentjes in de kleuren van de ogen van hun kinderen. Hoe mooi is dat? We kozen voor drie gekleurde diamanten (skyblue, appel green en cognac) in een brede ring met textuur.✨ Ik ging aan de slag met verloren was. Daarbij ga ik als een beeldhouwer te werk in was (zagen, kerven, vijlen, schuren) tot ik de textuur krijg die ik wil. Daarna ging de ring naar de ‘gieter’ die de ring in zilver giet. Toen ik de ring terug had, begon ik hem af te werken (schuren, polijsten,…) en toen bracht ik hem bij de edelsteenzetter. Die plaatste de diamantjes in de ringband en verzorgde ook de gravering binnenin. Dan volgde nog een laatste keer polijsten bij mij. After the sketched drawing, I‘ve cut out the shape from a wax block. Loved that process as I felt like carving out a mini sculpture! Shaping, removing and smoothing the little leaf shape. Then I‘ve sent it to the casting company who did a trial brass and silver sample. Such a rewarding feeling to see the result!! Eng🔻Незаконченная восковка кольца-города. Самое забавное, что город вокруг озера, на фото не видно, видео есть в посте ранее. ⠀ ⠀ Так вот, а озеро - агат. Собственно, с этого камня всё и началось, появилась идея постройки города вокруг. ⠀ И что-то мне подсказывает, что камень я заменю. Есть в нем кое-что, что мне не нравится. ⠀ Вспомнилось, как ещё маленькой, ходила в мастерскую, занималась живописью. И мы там ставили натюрморты и называлось это всё «от кувшина». ⠀ Найдёшь какой-то прекрасный кувшин (горшок, вазу, что угодно), начинаешь выстраивать вокруг него остальное всё: предметы поменьше, фрукты, цветы, драпировки... ⠀ И, вот, в 90% случаев в готовую постановку тот «кувшин», то, с чего всё начиналось, уже не вписывается и заменяется чем-то совершенно другим. ⠀ Так что коней на переправе всё же меняют) . . Unfinished wax ring city model. The funny thing is that the city is around the lake. It is not visible in the photo, the video is in the post earlier. ⠀ ⠀ So, the lake is agate. Actually, it all started with this stone, the idea of building a city around appeared. ⠀ And something tells me that I will replace the stone. There is something about him that I don't like. ⠀ I remembered how still small I went to the workshop, was engaged in painting. And we put still lifes there and it was all called "from a jug." ⠀ You will find some beautiful jug (a pot, a vase, whatever), you begin to build everything else around it: smaller objects, fruits, flowers, draperies ... ⠀ And, now, in 90% of cases, that “jug”, the way it all started, no longer fits into the finished production and is replaced by something completely different. ⠀ So the horses in the middle of a stream still change)

If you don’t have a backup plan, you don’t have a plan at all🤔 Because each link was hand carved I done a few over the amount I needed just in case, as you do. But as an extra precaution I had a mould made (big thanks to Cartercutts) just to be extra safe. It only turned out that a few of the original links had problems during the cast, which meant I had to use some from the mould I had made😄. If I didn’t get the mould made I would not of had enough time to carve more and get them cast before the holidays. My previous 20 years in the jewellery casting trade has given me the understanding of how various metals move and solidify during the casting process. I apply this knowledge throughout the design stages but especially when adding the sprues/feeds to the models. This is VERY VERY important because I only get 1 shot at getting it right. The sprues/feeds needs to be in the right place and the right thickness to give the model the best possible chance in casting.
