TRY TRY TRY🤞 Sometimes, a painting seems all about the struggle. I have had a new pool painting in my mind for a while now. 🏊♀️ Its been all drawn up -tricky, complicated perspective, layers. Plus was not easy to draw up when your right hand was bandaged and the left hand isnt quite so accurate. Its just been waiting for me to nail the sky, since..... Early January?! 20 attempts at SKY!! Literally used the back of everything. SO many photos of stages of paint. Of course art is not about making an identical copy. That would be a bit boring. Its about the artist, their style, the essence of a place, the feelings. All of those things. But still, this has been tough and disappointing at points to not achieve. Watercolours do NOT like to stay put (of course) and orange yellow and blues do like to become horrid mixes.... I have researched, watched, tried different wet in wet, wet in dry & different colour combinations, different types of watercolours, blow drying, you name it, I went there. They all looked AWFUL 😞 I confess, I was talking about admitting defeat.... But suddenly a couple of approaches seemed to produce better balances. So I went for it on the patiently waiting for me drawn out piece. And I believe I have nailed it ✅ Its been haunting my weekends.....👻 Final piece coming soon, to be launched an exhibition space near you! The latest edition of Preloved magazine arrived whilst I was in Canada. I returned home to find it waiting for me on my old pine kitchen table. The perfect spot. After unpacking and telling The Man all about my trip, I enjoyed a hot bath, filling the room with the gorgeous scent of lavender. Afterwards, I returned to the kitchen. The kettle was soon boiling and tea was made. As candles glowed, I opened this beautiful issue. Easter Bunny 10k…. A seemingly bad day at the office for me …. But was it? Perspective perhaps …. I was incredibly disappointed …. Today I couldn’t deliver the pace I wanted and I’m deflated that no matter what I try to do, I can’t get faster. In fact I seem to be slower …. So it seems. I wanted to give up running after today…. What’s the point in putting in so much hard work that obviously doesn’t work…… 🤷♀️ then I put my coach head on. Today wasn’t my day. Why? Could be a number of reasons…. Lack of sleep the last few days, life stresses, bad diet, fighting a virus potentially ? Even after a full rest day yesterday I had low HRV the last 2 days I ignored but maybe I shouldn’t have …. My body might be telling me something is going on under the surface. Either way it feels like excuses but all valid to a bad performance in my eyes. So I move on…. Carry on doing the hard work and one day I may have a good day at the office…. So onwards…… after a little sulk, some food and a good sleep ! It's time to introduce the second Easter bunny. In my recent posts, I've been discussing two hare art dolls. I previously shared the matron, the mother, and today I'm showcasing the daughter bunny, Julia. As mentioned previously, I designed these two bunnies to wear stylized historic robes. The strict matron got a 16th-century Elizabethan inspired gown with darker hues, while the daughter bunny has a lighter color palette and appearance. Despite the muddle of styles in the costume, it still echoed early Italian Renaissance to me. Because of that, I named the bunny Julia. Julia, like her mother, wears a large ruff around her neck, but otherwise the only decoration in her gown are the two bows on her sleeves. In contrast, the mother bunny is adorned with long golden chains around her neck and a pendant made out of a big drop-shaped pearl. This week was a bit different when it comes to blogging. I broke the normal schedule and posted two projects, two bunny art dolls. One was posted on Wednesday, and the other one on Thursday. If you follow me here on Instagram, you might have seen a sneak peek of these art dolls in my stories. I felt inspired to create more dolls after making the crow and great tit ones for PaperArtsy. The challenge was deciding on the character to portray! Eventually, the idea of Easter bunnies struck me as I planned March projects. I quickly sketched the concept and went to the fabric store on my next day off to purchase the materials for their outfits. Right from the beginning, I envisioned the bunnies dressed in a stylized epoch garments. One doll wore a robe inspired by 16th century Elizabethan era, while the other had a hint of early Italian Renaissance fashion.
