Kids had a few days off school for labour day hols and Ryan was in Chicago for work, so we bounced over to Singapore. Met up with friends who've moved over from SZ and HK, went to Universal (again, and still a hit), Newton Food Centre (great going with friends who are also locals), Night Safari - we fed a rhino! Art Science Museum for the Sneakertopia exhibition, Haji lane for lunch and browsing and mall shopping filled in the gaps and kept us cool in the steamy temps, as did some pool time. Sirmione was more beautiful than I imagined. Cobbled streets filled with pretty shops and inviting restaurants. We arrived via ferry from Desenzano which took only 20 minutes. The centre is busy as mostly pedestrianised apart from hotel shuttle cars collecting guests from the main gate. There is a gorgeous view no matter where you are. The east side is much quieter and offers beaches, stunning parks and beautiful walks. I particularly liked the Thermal Aquarium which looked very inviting. You can take trips to Garda, Peschiera and many more towns also, so plenty of choice to venture. Located on an islet accessed via road and approximately 20 mins from Verona airport. Saffron Harvest Saffron - the most expensive spice in the world. Also more expensive than gold (really! I am not making this up). And luckily for us, it is one of the leading exports of Morocco! The climate is ideal here for this precious spice and with the harvest season starting now, I had to post about it! The harvest takes 2 to 3 weeks and starts mid October. Once the flowers are collected (beautiful purple flowers), they are then opened and the stigma is collected. This is the precious saffron. Most supermarkets here sell it, but you also find it in spice shops in the medina. Some advice: when shopping for saffron, make sure you buy from a reputable seller (@zahour_saffron for example), as there are a lot of imitations out there. Why saffron? It is a powerful antioxidant, it helps with low mood depression, it is an aphrodisiac, boosts immunity and reduces blood pressure. I love it because it gives a certain something to most dishes and it is really delicious as tea!
