Finalmente llegamos al Día de la Madre, y las arañas que más se merecen estar aquí hoy sin duda son las arañas lobo, o licósidas (Familia Lycosidae)🕷️🐺 Las licósidas son una familia grande dentro de las arañas, con casi 2500 especies descritas hasta la fecha. Muchas son arañas errantes cuyas hembras, llegado el momento de la reproducción, cargan con su ooteca allá a donde van, pegada bajo su opistosoma (o "abdomen"), como es el caso de muchas especies del género Pardosa (fotos 6 y 7). Otras especies, como Lycosa hispanica, viven en madrigueras y protegen sus ootecas cargadas de huevos allí. Pero lo más curioso y relevante viene cuando las crías eclosionan. La madre hace un corte en la ooteca y decenas, o a veces más de un centenar, de bebés araña trepan por el dorso de su madre, y permanecen ahí hasta su siguiente muda, agarrados a unos "pelillos" especiales, o a sus propios hermanos. Durante ese tiempo, mamá araña, que normalmente (a pesar de las creencias populares) es una criatura tímida y asustadiza, puede volverse más agresiva y protectora frente a las amenazas (aunque si tiene espacio para huir elegirá escapar sin poner en riesgo a sus crías). Entre las arañas, este comportamiento de cargar y proteger a sus crías sobre la espalda es bastante único. Sin embargo, sí que se da también en otros órdenes de arácnidos, como los escorpiones o los amblipigios. Lo cual es bastante curioso, ya que las licósidas no son arañas primitivas precisamente. ¿Por qué ellas compartirán este comportamiento con otras ramas del árbol de los arácnidos, pero otras arañas más primitivas no? ¿Tal vez se deba a una casualidad, a una evolución convergente? ¿O habrá algo más?🤔 Con esto concluimos el especial Madres Arácnidas. It's a mother wolf spider and she is carrying her babies on her back of her body (if you look closely). A mother wolf spider gives birth to 100 babies or more at a time and then she makes an egg sac for them. when the babies hatch out of the egg sac they all climb on their mothers back and she keeps them on her back to keep close to her and take care of them while she goes to hunt or travel some other places. Went on a spider walk tonight. We use the headlamp so we can see their eyes. Well I scanned the yard and saw something light up like a disco ball! It was a momma wolf with her babies on board. All the babies eyes were glowing at me too! Tried taking a photo on my phone, but it's so hard to get a good shot of them at night. #wolfspider #wolfspiderbabies

Years ago, I ran a game at a comic book shop. One of the players of another game came in. See, he worked at the pet store nearby, and I saw he had a cricket/goldfish bag with him. Once he set it down on the table, 5 dudes all got up and ran away. I'm instantly intrigued, and I walk over. He found 2 wolf spiders in the dog food racks, and caught the one that didn't escape. He asked if I wanted it, knowing I had tarantulas. SCORE! 😂 WELL.... How did I know that 2 hours after being in the new enclosure, I'd see an egg sack? How cool! I had to see this process through. Weeks went by, ate like a champ. One day I looked in, and the whole area looked like a moss explosion occured. I grabbed a flashlight to get a better look, and everything I was seeing was babies! "Holy shit! This is awesome!" I thought... Then it sunk in.... "Oh god, this is a box of 2 thousand wolf spiders...." Well, I took the whole thing and released it into my yard. Dick move, I know, but..... Now I have wolf spiders in my yard, when I never did before.
