Day of Remembrance 1939–1945 2022– 🥀 --- There is also a second part in the name of this day—"Day of Remembrance and Victory over nazism..." Waking up on this day from the noticeable shaking of the bed, sirens and the work of air defense, you understand that the werewolf of nazism did take a good bite of the commies before its death in Western Europe in 1945, and most likely even before that, more than once. Its venom continues to flow in the veins of the "ruscism" bearers, decaying the body, mind and soul. --- #dayofremembrance #dayofrememberance #remembrance #remembrence #remember #remembranceday #remembrenceday #деньпамяті #creativesich #saynotoni

Today is Yom HaShosh, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Today we remember those that died in the camps, those who survived and bore the physical, emotional, and mental scars and pain. Today we also remember the Righteous Among the Nations who protected and saved people from the camps. Today we say again Never Again! Today I am reminded of the prayer of Rabbi Sacks that in part says: “We know that whilst we do not have the ability to change the past, we can change the future. We know that whilst we cannot bring the dead back to life, we can ensure that their memories live on and that their deaths were not in vain. And so, on this Yom HaShoah we commit ourselves to one simple act: Yizkor, Remember.” Rabbi Sacks 2013 As we remember and say “Never Again!” We can also say: Am Yisrael Chai! Which means: The people of Israel live! #YomHaShoah #DayofRememberance #AmYisraelChai

Repost from @tucsonjcc • 🕯️Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a solemn day observed by Jewish communities around the world. Starting tonight at sundown, we reflect upon and remember the lives of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Shoah (Hebrew for “Holocaust”). It is important we honor their memory, so that we do not soon forget the tragedy that befell the Jewish people and more importantly, so history will not be repeated. However you choose to observe this day, we hope it’s marked by meaning. 🙏✨ . . . . . #TucsonJ #TucsonJCC #TucsonJewishCommunityCenter #JCCMovement #YomHaShoah #YomHaShoah2024 #YomHaShoah5784 #DayOfRememberance #HolocaustRemembrance #NeverForget #StandUpToJewishHate #JewishHoliday #JewishHistory #JewishCulture #JewishTucson #ArizonaJewish #JewishValues #TucsonJewish

Bunch on the Anzac Day weekend. Many thoughts cross my mind, serious contemplation about why Anzac Day, although a military disaster, is important. Initially it was a day to pay respects, for the fallen at Gallipoli in the Dardanelles Turkey. Now, it fulfils a timeless task, enshrining the nation’s losses in all the wars. Every city, every town and village, has a stone memorial for a campaign over 100 years ago. #AustralianArmedForces #DayOfRememberance #AnzacDay #Anzac #AnzacCove #Gallipoli #Dardenelles #DardenellesWWI #WinstonChurchill #FirstLordOfTheAdmiralty #AnzacServices #LessWeForget

Nidoto Nai Yoni (Let it Not Happen Again): On this day 82 years ago at the Eagledale Ferry dock, local residents of Bainbridge Island with Japanese ancestry were forcibly removed from their homes. They were the first population of over 120,000 to be incarcerated under the authority of Executive Order 9066. Forced to abandon their homes, businesses, and all possessions they could not carry, the island residents were imprisoned in American concentration camps – first Manzanar in California. Then after 11 months, more than half transferred to Minidoka in Idaho, where they were imprisoned for the duration of the war. When World War II ended and the Japanese Americans were allowed to leave the prisons, about half of those from Bainbridge Island returned to a welcoming community, resumed their lives, and raised their families. In remembrance of the years stolen from them and their community, the Nidoto Nai Yoni Memorial was created at the Eagledale Ferry dock. This Memorial has since been named the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial and added to the National Park System as a unit of Minidoka National Historic Site. We encourage you to take a moment today and reflect on the legacy of Nidoto Nai Yoni. 📷: NPS [Image Description: A curving, wooden wall winds along a gravel path flanked by pink flowing cherry trees, with green evergreens rising above.] #FindYourPark #EncuentraTuParque #DayOfRememberance #NidotoNaiYoni #LetItNotHappenAgain

February 19th marks a poignant moment in Japanese American history. 82 years ago today, then President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 (EO 9066), which allowed U.S. military forces to relocate civilians from designated exclusion zones on the West Coast. Though no specific race of persons was listed on EO 9066, Japanese and Japanese Americans were targeted due to wartime hysteria, which resulted in the U.S. government forcibly removing them from their homes and into inland American concentration camps. This resulted in the forced incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese and Japanese Americans during World War II (WWII). On this Day of Remembrance, the Northwest Nikkei Museum would like to highlight Gordon Hirabayashi, known for his resistance against the forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII. In 1942, while a senior at the University of Washington, he defied the government's orders to report for “evacuation” (a euphemism for the forced removal) leading to his arrest and conviction. Hirabayashi appealed his case to the supreme court, arguing that the government's actions were unconstitutional. However in 1943, the Supreme Court ruled against him, upholding the constitutionality of the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans. Decades later in 1987, Hirabayashi’s conviction was overturned due to evidence of governmental misconduct and racial prejudice. The case Hirabayashi v. United States serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of civil liberties during crises and underscores the imperative of safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all. Today is Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans, on this day so long ago & order went out, an order out of fear and one that I feel went against the Constitutional Rights of the Japanese Americans that striped away their rights & saw them get put into camps, camps that I was shocked to find out happen when I was in High School cause it made me think of certain Enemy Camps of WWII like PoW Camps, the country should’ve been better. I knew a person who was in one as a baby, Mr. Onoye & another who was very upset at the US Government for when it did to their grandparents if recall right, this act effected a lot & caused them to lose a lot too. I’m so happy Little Tokyo is still around even after this event & community was able to grow still even thought the damage, through the cracks. (Edit: Alan Onoye & Lori Onoye). #DayofRememberance #Japanese #American #California.

February 19th marks the 82nd anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066 which led to the forced incarceration of around 120,000 Japanese American civilians following the attack on Pearl Harbor in Dec 1941. Although the US government announced in December 1944 that these camps would be coming to an end by 1945, those who had been relocated to the camp at Tule Lake, CA would not experience freedom until March 1946. During WW2, Black Americans on the West coast showed incredible support for Japanese Americans who were evacuated and incarcerated. Black newspapers like the California Eagle wrote about the persecution of Japanese Americans, calling it "...one of the disgraceful aspects of the nation's conduct ..." and discontinuing the use of racial slurs despite mainstream news sources continuing to use it for decades longer. Black attorneys, like LA-based leader of California's Race Relations Commission spoke, lobbied,, investigated, and filed lawsuits challenging internment. When the war finally came to an end, and those who had been detained returned home, again the California Eagle argued in support of Japanese Americans reclaiming their homes. Over 40 years later, and with critical help from Black lawmakers, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 saw Japanese Americans receive a formal apology from the government and redress payments of $20,000. In return, many Japanese American activists have sought to return the favor by arguing and lobbying for reparations to those whose ancestors had once been enslaved. Never forget. I’ve met so many Idahoans who don’t know the role Idaho played in the incarceration of innocent American citizens of Japanese descent. Few have heard of the camp at Minidoka (Camp Hunt) or then Governor Chase Clark’s active persecution and prosecution of Japanese Americans forcibly relocated to the camp in Idaho. Even fewer have made the drive to Jerome to experience it for themselves. When we forget history, we doom ourselves to repeat it. #dayofrememberance #executiveorder9066 #japaneseamerican

Today, we reflect on the upcoming Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans. February 19th, 1942, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. This order carried out an unjust removal and incarceration of people of Japanese descent. We are sharing a piece of art and history from Sonoma County's Japanese American Citizens League in remembrance. "Cat Carving" This carving was made from an orange crate by Frank Ito while he was confined in an incarceration camp known as Amache. Frank sent the carvings to Joseph and Elizabeth Perry, Sebastopol ranchers who took care of the Ito orchards while the Ito family was incarcerated until they were allowed to return. In a notice dated May 11, 1942, the US government alerted all people of Japanese descent in Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties that they must evacuate by May 17. The Nikkei, people of Japanese descent, of Sonoma County were forcibly removed to the high plains desert of Colorado. Their enduring stories are not only important pieces of Japanese American history but are a part of Sonoma County’s past. See the Cat Carving in MSC's exhibition, Sonoma County Stories. #JapaneseAmericanCitizensLeague #DayofRememberance #NidotoNaiYoni #MSC #MuseumofSonomaCounty #Amache #SonomaCounty #Arts #localhistory #SonomaCountyArts #HistoryMuseum #ArtMuseum

Karl Yoneda was kibei, a Japanese American who was born in the US but educated in Japan. When he returned to the US as an adult, he was detained on Angel Island for two months even though he was a US citizen. During WWII he was detained by the US government for a second time, among 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry forced from their homes and communities under the authority of Executive Order 9066. #DayofRememberance Karl was a lifelong activist and labor organizer. He met his wife, fellow organizer Elaine Black, when she helped bail him out of jail after he was arrested at a protest. He remained committed to his political beliefs despite suffering personal injustices: “If I learned any lesson from my two-month detention [on Angel Island], it was that I had to ganbaru and gaman, I had to keep at it and persevere.” Learn more about Karl's life and activism in Angel Island Mosaic, a new exhibit now on view virtually on our website or in person at the Detention Barracks Museum. Angel Island Mosaic uplifts the individual stories of immigrants who were detained at the Immigration Station. While their time on Angel Island was significant, their stories do not begin or end with their experience in detention. Image 1 - Portrait of Karl Yoneda at Manzanar by Dorothea Lange, 1942. TODAY IS ANOTHER DUAL 'CELEBRATION' OF SORTS. ONE, BEING ASH WEDNESDAY, AND THE OTHER THE WORLD RECOGNISES AS THE DAY OF LOVE. Whichever way you like to look at it, it's kind of poetic don't you think that the day that MARKS THE BEGINNING OF LENT and ONLY 40 DAYS TILL EASTER, is also poignantly marked as the day of love - and happens to coincide this year. I'm getting the message loud and clear :) Perhaps, as you contemplate the 'mixed' messages today, simply remember all that Jesus has made available to us, should help us love others well - today being the perfect reminder of that. #dayoflove #dayofrememberance #ashwednesday #lent #40daystillEaster

January 27th is International Day of Commemoration in Memory of Victims of the Holocaust. Every year around January 27th, UNESCO pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945. It was officially proclaimed, in November 2005, International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust by the United Nations General Assembly. At Evergreen Counseling, on this International Day, we commit to always remembering because in remembering, we can honor the memory of those who have passed and hold awareness around not letting anything like this happen again. #holocaust #UNESCO #holocaustmemorialday #DayOfRememberance #WeRemember

While the UK ranks among the safest countries for construction work globally, it experienced twice the number of work-related deaths in the construction sector compared to any other industry in the last financial year. Great Britain’s construction sector recorded 45 fatal injuries on the job during 2022/23, up from 29 in 2021/22. McGinley not only has the value of safety but we believe this is entwinned in everything we do. Today we want to take a moment to reflect by observing Workplace Day of Remembrance to honour the memories of those who have tragically lost their lives within our industry, and those who have sustained injuries and illnesses at work. As advocates for workplace safety, we are united in our mission to ensure that every worker returns home safely at the end of each day; proudly supporting our workforce and community with the help they need in situations such as workplace injuries or long term illness. Today, we stand together to honour those who have lost their lives or sustained workplace turmoil to reaffirm our dedication to safety, and support those who need it most. Several years ago, I visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial. As I stood surrounded by the history and markers of the tragedy, a group of Japanese tourists entered the area. To my own surprise, I was very taken aback at the sight of them. It may have been 70+ years since the attack, but still too soon! . (Stick with me here) . Surprised by my own reaction, I dove into where it came from. After all, if I went to Japan, the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima would be on my list to see. So what's the difference? . The people in that tour group had as much to do with Pearl Harbor as I did with Hiroshima - absolutely nothing. They were there to see and learn and remember just like I was. They may have shared a nationality with those who carried out the attacks, but they did not share the ideology and beliefs. . We cannot let ourselves be hardened against things people have no control over. For those of us in the military, we do not fight against a race, a nationality, an ethnicity, a gender, a social class, etc. We fight against ideologies and doctrine and systems that are in opposition to our own well-being. War is a conflict of wills, not a conflict of traits. . When we speak against groups of people rather than ideas, that is how prejudice and bigotry seep into generation after generation. If you know "the Japanese" attacked Pearl Harbor but you don't know why.. I encourage you to go learn. Then remember that Japan today is a great ally in the Pacific and is a crucial partner in our efforts to deter another ideology. . I've heard it said that your first thought is how you were raised, but your second thought is who you choose to be. Choose well. . . . . #pearlharbor #dayofrememberance #ussarizona #ussmissouri #ussoklahoma #fordisland #december7 #wwii #adaywhichwillliveininfamy #FDR

December 06 marks the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women. Today marks the day 34 years ago in 1989, when 14 women were targeted and murdered in Montreal. The Montreal Massacre is still Canada’s most deadly school shooting. Today I am proud to wear purple to support all women and children to let them know they are not alone. I wear purple to raise awareness for ending gender based violence, and I wear purple in honour and rememberance of these 14 women, and all others affected by gender-based violence. @mysistersplacealliston took to the streets today for a silent demonstration to honour the women’s lives lost to femicide, and demonstrate their ongoing commitment that gender-based violence is unacceptable and has no place in our world. Wear purple on December 06th to show your support for thousands affected across the country, and consider donating to a local charities that work towards this important cause. #16days #dayofrememberance #mspwearspurple #action #southsimcoe #alliston #dec6 #femicide #endgenderbasedviolence

💙 Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999. 💗 Originally held as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. 🤍 The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death. 💗 and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. 💙 #tdor #tdor2024 #transgender #transgenderdayofremembrance #dayofrememberance #queer #visibility

*repost as slides* On November 11, 1918 - 125,000 Salt Lakers took to the streets to celebrate the Armistice, “an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations. Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms.” In 1926, Congress passed a resolution designating Armistice Day as a national holiday- the proclamation stated “whereas the 11th of November, 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far-reaching war in human annals; and Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations…” In 1954, Congress officially changed the designation of Nov. 11th to Veterans Day. #armisticeday #dayofrememberance #veteransday #vetsaboutface #veteransforpeace #utah #ut #militaryhistory #peopleshistoryutah #peopleshistory

To remember that day, I wanted to recall the beauty of this city and the love I still have for it. National Day of Remembrance of Murder Victims- September 25th Like the the entire country gun violence and and violence in general has affected our city. As the first month of school ends, I can’t help to think of the youth and families that aren’t able to prepare their children for school because of lost lives. These teddy bears are angry because they don’t want to be used for funerals. My art is inspired by my life and my observations. Everything you see is real. Someone lost their life in my child’s school yard and this is the alter that was created for the lost life. Now these teddy bears guard the school yard as a sacred marker of life lost. Every life is precious. #stopgunviolence #morelovephilly #dayofrememberance #stoptheviolencephilly #philly ID: A blue teddy bear at a memorial alter. The bear is tied to an electric poll with baby blue balloons that’s say “I hate goodbye balloons.”

As an educator it is important to connect the realities of our city because many of our parents, educators, students and school staff are literally dodging billets to get to school and get home each day. I am deeply affected continuously by any loss of life and I can feel these spirits and energies on the pavement where people are loosing their lives everyday in my city. #stopgunviolence #morelovephilly #dayofrememberance #philly #stoptheviolencephilly ID: A sad and angry blue bear sitting on child’s alphabet block with the letter “V” that stands for violence.

My condolences to all the people and youth who lost their lives through violence and the youth that won’t be able to start a new school year this year. Every life is precious. Please take care of each other out here. I want us to use teddy bears for happiness and wellness not for the life departed. #stopgunviolence #morelovephilly #dayofrememberance #stoptheviolencephilly ID: This image is of sad and and angry teddy bears at memorial alters.
