Pick one space or area in your home to start organizing. It doesn’t have to be a huge project. Start small. I just went through my medicines and cleared out almost a whole bag full of old, leaking and used up bottles of kids Tylenol, old medicine from after I had my baby, half used, messy sunscreen bottles and empty theraflu boxes. Then I organized what was left into their own bin - all kids meds in one with measuring cups and syringes, all allergy meds in another, etc! Feels good knowing exactly where everything is (which is helpful with having one sick kid home from school today 🤧😷) If you do decide to dejunk or declutter today, let us know below! I’m finding that even though I got rid of so much, there is still so much that needs to be thrown, donated, and gifted poor Ryan he is so patient with my disarray “creative” brain hahahah The beginning of the summer I told myself that it was time to finally live with the stuff that only has meaning and purpose. I had a mind blowing realization during my dietitian appointment this week. I learned that A LOT of my impulses and behaviors can be traced back to a fear of scarcity, both in regards to food and spending/hoarding. With this new understanding, I decided it’s time to make some changes to my current circumstances. - Thanks to my BiPAP and a regular sleep schedule, I FINALLY had 1) the desire AND 2) the energy to attack one of my big stressors: handling those problem spots in my apartment that I’ve been avoiding for months. - First, I pulled out the junk from under my bathroom sink and cleaned my entire bathroom. I got two bags of trash out of it. How it all fit is still a shock to me - it’s a tiny bathroom! Then I swept the floor, shook the rugs, cleaned the tub, and reorganized the sink counter. It doesn’t feel so claustrophobic in there anymore. - Next, I finally tackled the pile-o-crap that has been rendering my exercise bike useless and took up way too much floor space. I got another trash bag out of this, plus a bag for donation, and rearranged a few things. Now I can access my bike, have open space for yoga, weight exercises, my bosu ball, AND I can open both sides of my window to let the light in! My room feels like a relaxing space now and I LOVE it. I’ve even ordered curtains for my slatted window (it’s only been 7 years coming). - I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and how I’ve put them in to action. I’m grateful for the improvements I’ve made and will continue to make. When I moved into a caravan in June 2021 I needed to downsize, a lot. I gave away all of my furniture, burnt thousands of photos, did umpteen drives to the charity shop, gave away books I had carried around with me since I was 19 and taken to at least 10 houses. I've moved a lot over the last 22 years since leaving home, moved abroad, moved to three different cities so you would think I would have been used to moving. I filled a van with the stuff that came to my caravan including a trampoline, 3 bikes, 2 guinea pigs and 2 kids. The majority of stuff in my storage unit now belongs to the kids, except for my keyboard, which will also be coming out soon, two memory boxes and one box of books. We don't realise how much physical baggage we carry around with us. Even now in my caravan there is stuff that I declutter. If it hasn't been used in six months it goes to the charity shop, clothes are on a need to use basis, one in one out. The idea of decluttering freaks some people out. We create emotional attachments to items. We keep things for sentimental value. We keep things because of the memories. Yet the memories are within us. This was part of my process towards moving offgrid. Was it easy? Fuck no but I had the tools I needed to work through it. It felt cathartic. Dresser drawers. After it was all organized, we discussed ways to stay organized. Everything is has a place. If the items for that place start to overflow, then it's time to dejunk. But instead of doing the entire room, just do that space. For example, if she can't fit any more hangers in her closet comfortably, then she has too many clothes in the closet. It'll be time to take all the hanging stuff out and donate old items she no longer wants. Or another example would be her pajama drawer. If she is shoving and pushing to get pajamas in that drawer, that means she's accumulated too many pajamas. Empty JUST THAT drawer and donate old pajamas. This maintains organization and it keeps the stuff from overflowing and overwhelming the space. The best part: When it's time to dejunk one drawer, you're much more capable of doing one drawer than trying to take on the entire bedroom. The garage isn't completely done, but I am! I started at 9 this morning, our son and daughter-in-law came over at noon to help, and we finally quit from total exhaustion at 4. We were RUTHLESS with our #dejunking. It has been six months since we've been able to walk through the garage, and almost five months since hubby has been able to park even his motorcycle inside. While he is away on business, we took the opportunity to declutter some things that he would likely keep forever. Rusty tools, toolboxes eaten up with corrosion, and so many things that have should have been tossed decades ago. Still so much there left to do, but it is much less formidable. I am in agony, but it was worth it just to be able to get to things we need to.

I lived in my apartment in Aliso Viejo for 7 YEARS and the carpet upon leaving looked Barely Touched! I had a Great Pyrenees who lived with me and I always removed my shoes before coming inside. At this new #apartment I have not even lived here ✌🏻 years and the #carpets were #filthy only 2 months into living here! And that was with the same #carpetcare as my last place with my #dog I spent the afternoon #vacuuming and it helped me to realize how much junk I’ve collected over the years! What?!? I’ve lived on my own on & off since I was 18 and every year I make it a point to go through everything and remove the unnecessary items. I was doing this a few weeks ago when it occurred to me 🤔 if I have to “go through it” doesn’t that mean I never or seldom use it? Sunday spring cleaning in progress. Minimalism is my new aspiration. I wish the dress side of the closet could stay like this, but in all honesty, there’s a rainbow scattered on my bed from different stages of life and motherhood that I’m still sorting through. I have a feeling just a few more will sneak back in on hangers, but far less than before. Dejunking should be a required human skill, taught in schools too, with the closet being only the beginning. I have been doing a lot of simplifying and dejunking this week...a spring cleaning as we prepare for our new floors to go in next week!🙌🏼 Through this process I have gotten rid of a lot of things and within that, a lot of our baby items and it has been emotionally HARD!! For example, I have so many memories of my four little infants in a particular baby bouncer that I am having a hard time letting go of. Her views on the perceptions of belongings, the right amount and you own them and an imbalance of too many and they own you, it’s so right and so interesting... they really do start to own you with time and energy to maintain them as well as occasionally the cost!
