The staff continues to remove equipment from KIDD while she is prepped and inspected for her journey downriver. FAQ 1 - We are not underway. The ship is moored at a private yard undergoing final preps for the voyage and USCG inspection to proceed downriver. FAQ 2 - She will travel down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico and then to Houma, LA. FAQ 3 - No, she's not leaving Baton Rouge permanently; this is just a visit for repairs. Baton Rouge remains home. FAQ 4 - She was and will be towed. She does not run under her own power as per the USN contract. Yes, we know about other ships under power. They were acquired from different sources with different contracts. FAQ 5 - Per USCG requirements for safety, there are no ridealongs. Only pre-approved workers will be with her. FAQ 6 - When we know the departure date and the towing vessel's name, we will announce it so that you can follow remotely. Do not grab your bass boat and run for the river. USCG and Sheriff's flotillas will be enforcing a security zone around her. Enjoy from the safety of the levee or from your home. FAQ 7 - KIDD will be away from Baton Rouge until Spring 2025 due to the 40-foot difference in the seasonal rise and fall of the Mississippi River annually. Part of that time will be in drydock at ThomaSea Shipyard, then pierside for continued work, then likely reopening for tours somewhere while waiting for high river levels in Baton Rouge so as to reenter her cradle. FAQ 8 - We will be refurbishing the cradle while the river is down and the ship is away, using lessons learned about this unique docking system over the past 41 years that has served KIDD well. There are no plans to "demolish the cradle." FAQ 9 - Discussion is still underway about potentially conducting drydock tours. Guten Morgen, and here we have a return to the never-builds, with the German super destroyer Elbing. She was envisaged as a class of six so-called Spahkreuzers or reconnaissance cruisers for the Kriegsmarine, tasked with scouting ahead of the main battle groups centred around the H class battleships and Graf Zeppelin aircraft carriers. They were initially designed to have a seaplane mounted on a catapult amidships to assist with searching for allied convoys, a rather novel feature for destroyers of the day, but then logic prevailed and the seaplane was replaced by two quintuple torpedo tubes. If built, the Spahkreuzers would have weighed in at 5,700 tons and mounted 6 5.9inch, 2 88mm and 8 37mm guns, far outweighing and outmatching contemporary destroyers. The choice of mounting two main armament turrets at the stern was to allow for a more offensive retreat in the event of meeting with allied squadrons. Of the six ships requested, only one was actually begun, and during an air raid on Kiel in 1942 the ship plans were destroyed and construction halted for good. Morning everyone, This is not my current build of HMS Dragon. This is the 1st Airfix 1:350 Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer I built when the kit was first released. I built it as HMS Daring with all of the possible weapons on it, including the Harpoon missile launchers between the bridge and the Sea Viper Vertical launch system (shown in the last image). This was a fun build, and I've remembered some of the things I had to do for the Dragon build, which I will be continuing when I get some time to keep building it. I do need to actually finish this one with its aircraft as I didn't actually paint or build them before, so I will be doing that when I build the Dragon's 2 helicopters. What do you think ?

After the completion of the South Dakota-class of battleships, the United States would swiftly complete multiple ships that were an upgrade to these known as the Iowa-class battleships. Todays feature whos both USS Alabama of the South Dakota-class and USS Iowa which was the lead ship of her class. Despite the size difference of these two ships, the Iowa-class battleship on the bottom would be the faster ship, being able to obtain a top speed of 33 knots, while Alabama would be able to reach a slower, but still widely considered among the fastest ships of their type, at 28 knots. Both ships would carry the same size 16-inch guns and be known throughout the second World War as some of the world's greatest battleships ever commissioned. La idea era bombardear la costa oeste de Estados Unidos con un grupo de estos submarinos ya que no podían transportar 3 aviones Su tamaño era similar al de un destructor (120 m de eslora, 12 de manga) aunque era mucho más pesado, ya que tenía 4.700 t en superficie y 5.700 sumergido.
