The Young Rascals' 2nd studio album - Collections!! Original 1967 copy The album rose to No.15 on the Billboard Top LPs Chart, and No.8 in Canada. Collections was the Rascals' 1st album to showcase their songwriting talent, with 6 of the album's songs written by band members. On its original release, the song "Turn on Your Love Light" was incorrectly titled "Love Lights", and credited to The Sonics' bandleader Gerald (Gerry) Roslie, who had written a song called "Love Lights" for that band. The album featured 2 Top 20 US hits: "I've Been Lonely Too Long' reached No.16 on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Love is a Beautiful Thing' preceded it at No.20. Music critic Bruce Eder wrote the "garage rock" sound of the band's 1st album was gone and called it a "wonderfully soulful body of music that picks up right where 'In the Midnight Hour' from the prior albums left off. RIP Dino Danelli, great drummer for the (Young) Rascals. His musical flair helped make their early R&B covers so exciting and authentic. In comparison with the 60s British Wave bands, American groups mysteriously didn't sport that many distinguished drummers. Maybe it was the dominance of great jazz drumming on the American scene.(Notably the young Dino Danelli was an actual protege of Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.) But compare: Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Mick Fleetwood, Jim Capaldi et al. vs. Ed Cassidy (of Spirit)? Dennis Wilson? Don't think so. I'm talking about r&r band drummers not the Wrecking Crew's Hal Blaine or the great New Orleans drum man Earl Palmer. And yet another one😢😢😢😢😢 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 WTF ?!!!!!! 😢😢😢😢 As most fans may or may not know, my legendary granddad Sam “Bluzman” Taylor played a very huge role in the musical mentoring and “raising” of the 4 member blue eyed Soul/Rock band that would come to be known to the world as THE RASCALS OR THE YOUNG RASCALS With classics like “Good Lovin”, “Groovin”, “How I Can Sure” and My Personal #1 Favorite “You Better Run”, The Rascals changed the game in the mid-late 60’s and a huuuuge part of their dominance was sure fire Jazz/Rock drum stylings of this man right here who already had a notch under his belt playing with the great Lionel Hampton before he met his bandmates and his post Rascals work with Steven Van Zandt Disciples was stellar on every level and even his work with my other legendary bad ass “Uncle” who gramps also “raised” in the biz the late great LESLIE WEST I don’t know who’s stories are crazier… The ones my momma tell of them being the few of the white boys who came through the hood projects to visit my granddad or the Rascals telling me the best stories about my granddad back in those days The rare times I got to see him or hang with him was always like that but always ended with me giving him his flowers as one of thee baddest influential drummers in Rock history and the fact that he was still able to play at his stage and age when he could Though as sad as it hurts me, I’m happy he’s no longer suffering and that all 4 original members reunited together before anyone left the earth without doing so and I’m glad I was there to see it representing granddad who was waiting for yall to put all the BS aside and do it one more time for the fans Your legacy lives forever Unc…. Learned last night after Rodney‘s birthday party we lost one of the all-time greatest drummers ever - Dino Danelli. When I was playing drums he was in my top five and I was lucky to meet him at the Greek Theatre in 2013. 965 RIP Dino Danelli, one of the finest rock drummers from the 1960s. Go to YouTube and check out some of the performances The Young Rascals did on The Ed Sullivan show. Dino was amazing. Collections was a transition album for The Young Rascals, where they started to showcase their songwriting abilities, but still relied on r’n’b covers. The original material is great with classic blue eyed soul like What Is The Reason, Lonely Too Long and Love Is A Beautiful Thing. The covers are good and highlight what an incredibly talented band they were. One of the best American bands from the 1960s. Collections is the precursor to what would be their best album, Groovin’. Happy birthday to the incredible Felix Cavaliere, who turns 80 today! He is best known for his time with The (Young) Rascals, where he served as the group's primary vocalist and organist/pianist. Felix currently continues to tour with his own incarnation of the Rascals and released a book titled “Felix Cavaliere Memoir of a Rascal: From Pelham, NY to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” earlier this year. Would be considered an obscurity these days but this US band Bulldog #Bulldogband should be rightly described more as a great couldabeen that wasn’t. The group came together in early 70s following the breakup of #TheRascals . The issue of course was that the creative heart of that band was always Felix Cavaliere, not #DinoDanelli nor #GeneCornish , the core pair behind the new band, no matter how competent they were as musicians. This ’73 single “Are You Really Happy Together” came out between their 1st and 2nd LPs, with Side A later included on their 2nd and Side B taken from the 1st.
