By 1991, most record shops had quit selling vinyl altogether but that Musicland still had one small bin of LPs. I had intended to buy this on cassette, but I saw it sitting in that small LP bin, held it in my hand, saw the huge artwork, and was awestruck. I had to have it. I was 12 years old and bought it with my allowance money. Little did I know that 33 years, that one purchase would cause me to amass a cache of vinyl over 5,000 strong. And before you ask, yes, every single one of those albums has been listened to at least once. I don’t collect records. I’m building my listening library. Paradise is having a library of music you can listen to without the Internet that will serve you well for the rest of your life. Remember, people…if you don’t think your own record library is the best one in the world, you’re doing it wrong! Let's break the Metal flow on my page a bit and talk about one of my favorite non-metal artists, Bruce Springsteen! It has been a while ago since I posted something about the boss but lately there is a lot going on about the latest compilation album that was just released and I would like to dive in and tell you my opinion about it. I read a lot of comments on different social media sites and Springsteen groups about the album and some die-hard fans welcome the album as it is yet another Springsteen item in their collection while others absolutely despise it. At some point I even read a fan calling out other fans to absolutely not buy the album as Springsteen himself would not profit a bit of it. Well, about that later point, it was Springsteen himself that decided to sell the rights to his entire back catalogue. And making profit of it has always been the point from the buyers in the first place. And Bruce himself was fully aware of that. So not bying a Springsteen product because he himself will not profit from it is a total senseless notion. However, for the die-hard fan the album is a totally useless product as it offers nothing new to what we already have. In fact, covering a 50 year carreer with only a 18-track compilation is very poor to begin with, but the song choice of this compilation is...well...exactly what you would expect. The very obvious songs and none obscurity. In that case, two other compilation albums are still widely availlable ('Greatest Hits' and 'Chapter & Verse') which cover most of what the new compilation also covers. I get it, that the album is targetted at a audience that is ok with having just a 'best of' without interest in a complete discography. If that is what you're after, the album is fine (but still very poor). However, it is beyond me why they didn't choose to release a follow up to the already very nice 'Greatest Hits' album and cover his carreer from where that album left of till present day! That would have make much more sense as 'Greatest Hits' is still availlable. It would have been slightly more interesting for the fans as well and it would probably have hitted a much wider audience. 👇👇👇

1262 I’m not a huge collector of live albums. I have a handful. Not too many. I’m also usually not a fan of drawn out live performances that stretch on endlessly. And although this double live album contains several songs that go beyond the ten minute mark, they never feel long. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you which ones were the long ones without looking at the times. Each song is brilliantly arranged, always keeping the listener engaged. Mark Knopfler’s guitar solos are unlike anyone else’s. He doesn’t shred. He plays melodies. He has a great band that features his longtime bassist John Illsley and Terry Williams from Rockpile. Alchemy is a great live album with a nice selection of some of the band’s best songs from their first four albums. Of the three Anthology records, Volume 2 has always been my favorite. That’s due in no small part to the fact that it covers my favorite period of the Beatles and it also has Real Love on it, which I consider to be the best of the two new “Threetles” tracks included on these records. The Anthology series is absolutely essential for anyone with more than a passing interest in the Beatles. Well, I’ve finally got the one and only RSD title I cared about! Y’all, this is one of the greatest pop rock albums of the 1990s if not of all time. Absolutely unbelievable top to bottom. This has his biggest hit, Barely Breathing, along with She Runs Away which was also a radio hit back in the day. If you’ve never heard it, you should listen at least once. It’s a crime that it took 28 years for this to ever see a vinyl release, but better late than never I suppose.
