I couldn’t be more proud as a coach, programmer, and friend of these guys - just a bunch of dudes doing some stuff 😁 Between @arsl51360 and LHTKTraining there were 14 competitors at Matt’s Competition yesterday! Real quick - big s/o to @the_iowa_girevik & his team behind the scenes - I know just how much work hosting a competition is and it's always a labor of love. Thanks sir! Of the 14 there were first time competitors to veteran’s of Team USA (IKMF). A couple Ranked CMS and Master of Sport too!! Others added new event’s to their competition resume. We blocked out 11 weeks for specific training for this event. The guys were all in. It was great to see the commitment and progress they made. Not only in training, but many added weight loss goals ✔️and became more aware of their nutrition (if you’re going to train this hard, this long, might as well make it count 💯) We continue to learn that working out is different from training for a goal and that’s different from competing. This is an ongoing lesson. Each competition presents new challenges and requires adaptation - both in preparedness and on the fly. Competing changes everything while adding perspective. What you do in the gym matters (habits, commitment, intention) but what you do on the platform on a given time and day is what sets you apart. Getting a taste of that - often bitter, sometimes sweet - checks off something in your brain. It's not easy stepping onto a platform and allowing yourself to be judged. Back to planting corn after a small quarter inch rain yesterday! It was forecasted to be a 2-3 inch soaker (for what feels like the 5th week in a row) but we will take a quarter inch over nothing. It did soften up the ground enough to keep planting, as we had stopped because the ground was so hard and dry. But all of our fields will still need significant rain soon for this corn to succeed! Our fields have had anywhere from .20 to .75 on them in the last 60 days, with a lot of wind and above average temperatures. The winter wheat is really starting to struggle. We are dry and have been for the last several years! About 10 inches behind our average rainfall for the last 365 days and 20 inches behind in the last 3 years. We are a little frustrated, but we will keep praying and having faith! It's the tough times that create strength, perseverance, and a healthy reliance on God instead of ourselves. Sometimes you don't get what you pray for but that doesn't mean you should stop praying! It's more about the process of drawing closer to God than it is about getting what you want. He knows what you need and the things of earth aren't as valuable as the things of heaven. Rain will come when it comes and we will be thankful! #prayforrain

So excited to see the miracles that God is doing! Just read a report from my pastor about a lady from my church that went to the mountains of Kenya this week to preach the Gospel. Some of the tribe leaders and pastors there told the people that a messenger from God was coming, and that there will be rain. It hasn’t rained there for months and when Angie got there and preached the Gospel, it started to rain! We pray for growth, for learning, for making it to the next level. So often, we pray for all of that while also wanting the sun to shine through the whole thing and getting discouraged if it doesn’t. Growth, maturity, and wisdom all come from getting saturated. Saturation takes rain. Rain comes from clouds, darker, dreary days, and sometimes even storms. The same rain that saturates the ground creates mud. Mud can make you feel stuck, messy, and frustrated. Sometimes it even forces you to phone a friend and ask for help to get out. That same mud you get stuck in carries nutrients down into the soil to the roots of all the plants so they can grow. As it rains, if you’re focusing on the right things, you can watch it all grow in the moment. Then the sun will come out. When the sun starts shining, the warmth returns, flowers bloom, the whole process has worked perfectly like it was already orchestrated in a way we could have never imagined or created on our own. None of this growth can happen without the rain. —- As I looked outside today, on this perfectly rainy spring day, I was reminded to remember to appreciate the rainy days in all aspects of life. Seeing the cows enjoying the green pastures again after a looong winter brings tears to my eyes.😭 We are so grateful we’ve been able to find organic hay for the cows this past winter… not gonna lie it was a HUGE leap of faith going into the winter with so many to feed. God has been faithful and provided the many $$ it took to buy in hay from great distances.🙌🏻 The snows helped bring the green grasses we now get to enjoy.🥰 All that said, this past month has been very dry again, we got a tiny bit of moisture the other morning but really need inches of rain to keep the grasses growing for the cows to have something to eat. If you are not aware we are in a rather drought ridden area of Texas. Last Friday it was raining cats and dogs. Then some hail came in. Some streets flooded and high winds rattled the building. Tuesday Rant The more #kettlebell reels "you" send me, the more I scroll my search, the more grateful I am to be on this specific training journey #pathlesstaken If Im honest, I get it. I understand why so many in the fitness world - especially the West - 💩 on #kbs as a training tool. To the untrained eye (or willfully ignorant) all you see is #grabass You don't know that the group of sweaty man buns with cool guy videographer & edits is different than hiss breathing while barefoot in cargo pants. And they're different than the camp that strings together what looks like 16 different dance moves. Then you have the jugglers 😳. And all that is nowhere close to what you see a guy like me doing - standing in one place for what seems (& feels) like forever, on repeat. That might actually be your version of hell 🤷♂️ Also there is plenty of crossover (Ive done my fair share of the barefoot hissing) which only adds to the confusion. To you, the outsider, its all just random grabass. However, I promise you, the KB is very nuanced & versatile - to meet so many different types of needs... back to my point, I also find many of us annoying 😑 I no doubt annoy others 🙋♂️ But lumping us all together means you're missing highly specific details & developed skill over time. You wont see me juggle or dance & i cant grow hair so man bun touch butt class is out. Some of us chase Ranks & some of us chase likes, clicks & views. That doesn't make one right & one wrong, better or worse, etc. There's enough room for everyone 💯 Just know that we are not the same & that's a good thing. For me? Im introverted by nature & the pain of endurance training reminds me of my "why's". And I appreciate the dedicated, intentional time & strategy the Sport of Kettlebell lifting requires. Its not something you do when you feel like it. Its not for everyone.
