The eruption occurred late Thursday 10th February and continued into Friday and Saturday according to Italy’s Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. I flussi piroclastici non sono una novità per l'Etna, essi si generano piuttosto frequentemente durante l'attività esplosiva a causa di frane o di crolli che interessano i crateri sommitali dell'edificio vulcanico. La loro avanzata non ha superato le poche centinaia di metri, capite bene che in un edificio vulcanico alto 3.357 metri non costituiscono alcun pericolo per la popolazione che vive ai piedi del vulcano.
