Broadcaster Vanessa Feltz’s ex-fiance Ben Ofoedu has made cruel remarks about their relationship, alleging that she “stole the best years” from him. Before their breakup in February of last year, the 51-year-old Phats & Small singer was in a 17-year relationship with Feltz. Speaking to MailOnline, Ofoedu disclosed that he feels more at ease in his present relationship with 34-year-old Precious Muir because he doesn’t feel as insecure as he does with 61-year-old Vanessa. Just over a year ago, their relationship ended due to accusations of Ofoedu’s infidelity, which he eventually acknowledged. Ofoedu later revealed to The Sunday Mirror that he had been unfaithful during their relationship. Ofoedu disclosed that he had texted one woman and had slept with another. Feltz suffered greatly as a result of their breakup; she reportedly lost more than two stone in weight and went on what she called a “heartbreak diet” because of her emotional distress. Ofoedu then started dating Muir and said he felt more fulfilled than he was when he was with Feltz. Ofoedu continued as he claimed he “got nothing” from his 17-year relationship with the TV host and voiced discontent with it. Ofoedu thought back on his previous relationship, highlighting the substantial amount of time he spent with Feltz. He claimed that even though they were in a committed relationship for a long time, he was never truly satisfied. What do you know about coeliac disease? Firstly, I’m not a medical professional. I’ve a basic interest, an NNEB & mum to two teens, one of whom has coeliac disease. Which means I know more than Vanessa! When diagnosed, we saw the dietitian at 6wks, 6m & 12m in the first year. She gave us a pamphlet with info & whilst some was useful, it wasn’t relevant to me as a parent to help her. It was all adult focused. I read & learnt what to do to and was shocked that it wasn’t just about removing bread, pasta & cake from the diet. It was the cross contamination issues that caused most alarm (@thismorning GP - no it’s not just for a few!) but it is for all who suffer from coeliac disease. When you get the news your child has the disease, it’s lonely & scary. I wanted to find out fast, with everything in one place, telling me what I needed to know. Giving me some guidance, to know I’m not alone & to give me a big hug saying it’ll be ok. That’s exactly what is inside the pages of my book. Coeliac Disease is a serious condition if someone consumes gluten or it is left untreated it can cause someone to be very ill. After reading a report by @skynews about the comments made by various presenters, this just shows how much misinformation about Coeliac Disease, saying it's not serious or that people should stop treating it like other serious allergies. Clearly majority of these people, who now have apologised, don't know anything about Coeliac Disease. Here's my reply: No one treats this condition like a peanut allergy, of course a peanut allergy is in a sense more serious because It can cause death. But all allergies and Intolerances are serious!!! Just because it doesn't cause instant death doesn't mean it's not serious or shouldn't be considered at a Christmas party. When you have Coeliac Disease, and I know because I live everyday with this condition, your body is sensitive to anything with Gluten in it. So if some food is cooked in the same place as that of food without wheat or anything with gluten in, we can't eat it due to cross contamination and that now having technically gluten on it. If we eat gluten, we can become VERY unwell sometimes in serious cases we can end up in hospital. So yes in a sense long term it's as damaging as any allergy or autoimmune condition, and quite rightly it should be treated seriously 😒. It would be nice if people actually said "well I don't know I can't give advice" because they don't know, rather than basically name is all as inconvenient because if we are gluten free everyone has to be gluten free. Trust me that hits home because at mealtimes my family has to eat the same as me to avoid making two meals in the same place and cause serious cross contamination. So yes I do feel like a inconvenience but for people on TV to call it unreasonable everything is gluten free is completely unnecessary and damn right unfair!! It's a serious condition and should be treated like one! People need to be educated! Being gluten free itself isn’t that hard. Yes, it takes effort & thought, but so many foods are naturally gluten free. That’s easy. It’s about adapting when your child is diagnosed. Family life, eating, preparing food is a big part of life. The way that you eat in social settings is different. I won’t lie. In the beginning it was hard. I thought it'd be easier. I did what I do, had a go. The first pizza attempts went in the bin with the tins. Disaster. I couldn’t understand why it would be so difficult. But it was the celebrations I was thinking of & how I’d make sure she was still involved, included. That’s how this all started. She was excluded once at school. She sobbed & it broke my heart which somehow started all this. I loved making their birthday cakes. Something to create memories. Some took hours and late nights. But it was important to me that they had something to remember. I’d done it before her diagnosis, so I’d have to do it afterwards too. For everyone. And that I did. It took time, effort and persistence. But I was utterly determined to ensure she’d always get what she needed. It’s the same for my books. There wasn’t anything helping parents to learn quickly & easily, you had to look for info. Who wants to do that? You want to know fast how to help your child. It didn’t make any sense there wasn’t one thing telling you what you needed to know. Grace was my inspiration behind the kids book. She didn’t want to celebrate 5yrs of being diagnosed. Let's clear something up... What is a silent coeliac❓️ I'll be honest, the reason I've decided to start this little page is partly down to the recent and frankly innaccurate information that @thismorning have been sharing on coeliac disease. It has shocked and worried me that shows watched by so many can share such misguided information. They have the potential to do real harm by saying that it's okay to have a bit of gluten now and again, it's okay to put your bread in a toaster with other gluten containing food....it is so not! 🍞 A 'silent coeliac' is someone who doesn't experience any symptoms. You might say it's a blessing and I suppose on one level it is, but on others it makes life a lot harder. Ingesting gluten has the exact same effects it would to anyone who does get symptoms, the difference is we just wouldn't know it! So the big question, how do you know when you've accidentally eaten gluten? The truthful answer is you don't, which is why accurate information on cross-contamination is so important. ⚠️ Coeliac Disease- a bit of gluten most certainly will harm myself and my two girls. Prior to diagnosis we all became so ill. My smallest (Annie) was underweight, malnourished and (wrongly) diagnosed with a dairy intolerance. My oldest, (Rosie), was asymptomatic - but we had no idea her insides were being completely destroyed. I took a test and because I had a very limited intake of gluten I had a false negative. 4 years after that test I tested positive and was put on the emergency 2 week wait pathway for an endoscopy and colonoscopy which found extensive damage to my small intestine as well as malnourishment. My antibodies were off the scale. I was 6 stone. A waif. I also had anaemia, B12 deficiency and am currently undergoing tests for osteoarthritis/ rheumatoid arthritis. My mental health went into decline - I couldn’t get out of bed. All because of gluten. In response to “that” phone in on the very prolific @thismorning … I will be having a gluten free Christmas dinner - as will my family. If you come to our house, you’ll be eating according to our rules. Our food will be freshly made, homemade and nutritious. For the sake of my children’s health as well as my own. One crumb is all it takes to do damage. A knife in the wrong butter, the wrong chopping board. We have to be so, so careful. It’s very clear that more education needs to be done. More awareness. #coeliacdisease And there you have it. Within 2m the gluten free section of the UK was up in arms! All from someone giving advice with no idea of what it is like to have or live with coeliac disease, to be gluten free. I don’t have it. But my daughter does. And that means I need to fight for her & have done since her diagnosis nearly 6yrs ago. I too was reasonably dismissive 7-8yrs ago. A distant relative has it. The buffet was being carefully prepared by her grandmother. You can’t do this, don’t touch that. Hmmm, I thought. What a drama. Most would, as it’s not normal practice to not share, be communal, being jolly & chatting as you work your way round a buffet, never minding what you touch, or using different spoons in bowls. I gave it no more thought until January 2018 & our first blood test came back positive. If I wasn’t a tiger mum, I certainly was now. I set out to ensure my child was never excluded. It happened once & that was enough. This all began & evolved into me helping other parents who are just like me. Coeliac disease in the UK is under diagnosed, associated with a ‘faddy diet’ & misunderstood. The lengths we have to go to, ensuring our children’s health is maintained is above & beyond. Life changes & you make those changes as you do it for your child. To keep them safe. Awareness is key, and unless you live within the 'coeliac bubble', you have little idea of the anxiety & panic you have when eating out or having friends/family round to your 'safe environment'. And to ensure my child's safety, to help others, I'll keep writing books & posts so that others are informed, have knowledge & are less scared when their child is diagnosed. Coeliac disease is 'cured' by diet alone. That's amazing, but, it must be maintained at all times, avoiding all cross contamination at all costs. If that means a total GF buffet at Christmas, so be it. If not, I'm taking my air fryer & I'll keep her safe that way! Feel free to share! It is exactly this kind of crappy dismissive view of Coeliac disease that makes living with it so difficult!! Not treating it like the illness that it actually is, is where the problem lies. The effects on the body may not be immediately visible but the cross contamination that can occur can cause extreme illness for many of us and in most cases is where we accidentally ingest gluten. It takes my body two full weeks to recover from a glutening and it is not a fun time. Perhaps if Vanessa Feltz was unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of horrendous abdominal pain,vomiting, diarrhoea ,constipation and painful swollen stomach and other awful symptoms she would quickly change her lax opinion. Long term ingestion of gluten increases the risk of cancer,osteoporosis, infertility, anaemia and can have various detrimental effects on the body of a Coeliac.
