“I honestly thought it was a little interesting when the next Luca Guadagnino’s film was announced to be “Challengers”, a love triangle film between three tennis players. This is the man who has made such great, intricate films, like the Suspiria remake, Call Me By Your Name, and Bones and All. The trailers for this new Zendaya-led film looked quite good and I was excited to see it, but I was also both curious and worried that this wouldn’t live up the other films of Guadagnino’s. However, I was really impressed and delighted to see that Guadagnino creates another great film that shows this complex love triangle between three messy humans to near-perfection, with fantastic performances from Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. I finally managed to get around to watching the film that goes with my 10k run for April, raising money for @medicinema_charity I traveled to Fran’s house and myself, Fran and 6 of his children (he has a baby too, who his wife was looking after) got together to watch Honey I Shrunk The Kids. This is a film I have seen several times but not for about 30 years. I was certainly watching it in the best company as the children got very excited by the opening credits. It's a shame so few modern films have opening sequences like this. It was fun and colourful and really set the mood. The film spends quite a while setting up the family dynamics of the neighbours, how the kids interact, how/who the parents are etc. I don't remember this being so prominent and it almost lost the audience I was watching it with. However, I did like the subtle way they discussed the Szalinski family having marital problems. I certainly didn't pick up on that as a child but it was done well and showed the children being supported and loved while also supporting both parents. The effects at a couple of points do look a little dated, the bee scene for example. But it is 35 years old now and the fact that the sets were actually built and that most of the effects were practical meant the dated scenes were in the minority. If this were remade today, I know there was talk of this, it's sad to think that all the sets and scenery would most likely be CGI and not stand the test of time as well. This is a fun family film which I have great nostalgic feelings towards. I do remember it being more tense and having more jeopardy, but that may just be my cynical adult nature. A blast from the past! Watched this today after if I'm honest, I forgot this film existed. Directed by Dirty Dancing director Emile Ardolino after Leonard Nimoy(Yes, that one!) was unavailable, this is actually quite enjoyable. It's hard to recall a time when Ted Danson, Steve Guttenberg and Tom Selleck were box office gold but, this film is a product of that time. The chemistry of the leads is palpable. No one is hogging the limelight and the script plays to their strengths. Selleck and Danson are the highlights here. Danson who was still on Cheers at the time and Sellick who was just coming off Magnum PI were an 80s TV fan's dream of a pairing. Neither have really pursued movie careers since however, their various ventures into long running series have kept them current. Poor Steve Guttenberg never really came back from the end of the Police Academy movies. Films like this aren't made anymore. This was released in 1990 and was a sizable hit. It's a real shame that family comedies have disappeared. It's hard to imagine who would star in this today if it was remade. Emile Ardolino sadly died of an Aids related illness in 1993. He was a talented director who has been forgotten by history. Ostatnimi czasy rzadko się tu pojawiam, ale obejrzałam właśnie coś, co sprawiło, że napiął się każdy mięsień w moim ciele. Challengers, produkcja, o której było głośno już na etapie zdjęć, dopiero co weszła do polskich kin. Dzisiaj udało mi się ją zobaczyć i MATKO JEDYNA. Zarys historii zna chyba każdy, kto choć raz usłyszał o tym filmie. Opowiada o dziwnym trójkącie miłosnym między tenisistami: dwójką przyjaciół i wschodzącą gwiazdą tej dyscypliny. Zawirowania relacji, której się przyglądamy, są niepokojące, ale przy tym niezwykle intrygujące. Z zafascynowaniem przyglądałam się temu, jak reżyser bawi się formą filmową. Przeskakuje między teraźniejszością, a przeszłością w skrupulatny i przemyślany sposób. Do tego praca kamery, która w tym filmie jest niczym zabawa. Rzadko widzimy statyczne ujęcia, przeważa dynamika. Czasem mamy punkt widzenie tenisisty, czasem piłki, którą gra. Dostrzegamy ujęcie z drona, a za chwilę ekstremalne zbliżenie twarzy jednego z bohaterów. Dynamiczne sceny rozgrywki tenisowej zestawione są z delikatnym, intymnym wręcz slow motion. Miałam wrażenie, że oglądam eksperyment napalonego kinematografią młodzika, a tu doświadczony reżyser ze świetnymi filmami na swoim koncie. To była uczta, pobyt na Olimpie, uścisk dłoni ulubionego artysty. Dla samych tych doznań warto było przyjść do kina. Co do bohaterów, ile osób, tyle zdań. Tashi Duncan, grana świetnie przez Zendaye, budzi we mnie tylko odrazę i złość. Mieszane odczucia mam w stosunku do Zweiga, w tej roli Josh O'Connor, który balansuje na krawędzi neutralizmu a niechęci w mojej głowie. Na koniec Art. Co mogę powiedzieć? Uruchamia we mnie matczyne instynkty. Może to te jego blond loczki, może uroczy moment snu z córeczką. Mike Faist przekonuje widzów, że nadaje się nie tylko do musicali. Jeśli będziecie mieli szansę zobaczyć ten film w kinie, wykorzystajcie ją. Laapata Ladies Grab your pop-corn, French fries and cold coffee, this one is going to keep you glued for 2 hours 2 mins. An adaptation of Biolab Goswami’s story ‘two brides’ the story is set in the era before the wave of technology took over. Shot in Barwai village , 60km from Bhopal, many actors from the film belong the tribal communities from the State. After Dhibi Ghat, this is Kiran Rao’s second directorial venture and it’s an absolute delight to watch. The script is satirical take on social norms and expectations from women. The story revolves around the swapping of two brides on a train on the way to their husband’s villages. The resulting pandemonium evokes lots of laughter and thought-provoking scenes. Bundled with all the right characters, from a corrupt cop to an empowering grand mom, this unique tale is a must-watch. It also featured at the Cannes festival and did amazingly well at the box- office. Second slide features Pratibha Ranta who plays Jaya, the reluctant bride. 📽️ Ash Vs Evil Dead 🍺 @pomonaislandbrew Hello Mr Fancy Pants - Pale Last year after sitting through 5 Evil Dead movies in the cinema, my Brother and I went home and couldn’t help but put on the first episode of Ash Vs Evil Dead, we both fell asleep in front of the TV, that’s not a reflection of the show, just of how tired we were, the show is actually really good and now seems like the perfect time to get back into it, it’s so good to see Bruce Campbell back as Ash and just having a ball with it. This Pale is hazy with heavy carbonation, stone fruits flavours at the forefront with a light bitter finish and hits of tropical, the thick and almost creamy on the mouthfeel. Possessor is one of my absolute favourite films of recent years. The genes are clearly built different in the Cronenberg family and I am here for it! Brandon Cronenberg just seems tied in to my sensibilities in every way. I adore this film so much and he's one of my favourite directors. I had previously bought the US standard 4k UHD as it was never released here but had to go again for this wonderful set from Second Sight. (I since sold my US UHD which was great) This film looks so good. Not just aesthetically beautiful but the care put to authoring this to disc is immense. I definitely call this a reference disk to showcase 4K. As well as the new restoration with Dolby Vision HDR there is a brand new commentary exclusively made for this release. Alongside various new interviews and the archival features from its initial release too. Then you have an awesome 120 page book and 6 art cards inside the rigid slip case with new art itself from Marko Manev. Just for picture purposes I wanted to include the score by Jim Williams put out by Mondo. This release itself has some incredible art from one of my favourite artists Randy Ortiz. I feel so jaded to most violence on films now and would say it takes quite a lot to shock me but even on this latest watch (fourth overall) I still found myself wincing at the fire poker scene (to save spoilers) it looks and feels so real and that's the BIGGEST compliment I can give. Movies 2024 - The Bubble (2022; directed by Judd Apatow) 💩 (The Turd) April Fool’s: One of our modern day great comedy writer/directors takes on moviemaking in the time of COVID. What could go wrong? I’ll be totally honest: I don’t know if this whole movie is as bad as the first 45 minutes are. I kind of checked out at that point. The movie still played and I found myself still looking up at the screen, but my mind wandered so many places as the movie continued for another hour-plus. Why did Pedro Pascal and Karen Gillian agree to this? What has happened to Judd Apatow? Everyone had to have been paid really well to do this, right? I found this thing to be as bad as bad can be, made even worse by all of the talent involved. There are people here who should know better and people here who, while they may not typically have the most discerning picking ability, they really just gave up when it came to choosing this. I want to say, too, that this isn’t the worst movie I have ever seen. Not even by a long shot. It is, however, amongst the most disappointing. With a concept, casting, and production team so promising, this execution is downright depressing.

勝手に映画評論のコーナー2024🎬 鑑賞日：2024年3月2日(土) ————————————————————————- 『落下の解剖学』 (2023年/フランス) Anatomie d’une chute/ Anatomie of a Fall ★×3.5/5 ———————————————————————— 雪山の山荘に暮らす作家夫婦と聴覚に障害を持つ(弱視)息子と盲導犬。 ある日、父親が山荘から落下し死亡しているのが発見される。 目撃者は聴覚に障害のある(弱視)息子と彼の介護犬のみ。 一体これは自殺なのか?事故なのか？殺人事件なのか? 犯人が誰なのかを見つけすサスペンススリラーなのかと思いきや、後半のほとんどは法廷のシーンで、そこでも犯人が誰かを突き止めるというよりも、証言者やそれぞれの弁護士の言い分によって、他殺にも自殺にも感じられるし、犯人探しというよりも、真実は当事者以外何もわからない中で、周りの人の印象操作次第で「出来事」ってどうにでも変えられてしまう、「当事者」の印象って悪人にも善人にでもなってしまうんだなと思わせられる深い深い人間ドラマだった。 ⚠️以下ネタバレありです⚠️ 亡くなった夫の殺害容疑をかけられるベストセラー作家の妻サンドラが、当初は無罪なのに殺人容疑をかけられた悲劇の妻に見えつつも、裁判を通して、明るみになっていく夫婦関係から、強気で自由奔放な女性へとイメージが変わっていく。 亡くなる前に夫が隠し撮りしていた夫婦喧嘩の録音を裁判所で傍聴者や自分の息子がいる中で聴かされるシーンはとてもリアルで辛い。 色々あって、作家としてなかなか芽が出ず、視覚障害を抱える息子に学校へ行く代わりに家で教育を教えるために奮闘してもなかなかうまく行かず、家のリフォームもうまく行かず、全てがうまくいかない中で、自分(夫)のアイデアをもとに書いた小説でベストセラー作家になったり、浮気したり(同性と)、人生を謳歌し続ける妻に対しての恨みや嫉妬がエスカレートしていく夫の言動を聞いていると、自殺をしたようにも思えるし、そんな夫に嫌気がさしたサンドラが事故に見せかけた事件にも思える。 終盤で鍵となるのは、聴覚に障害を持つ息子のダニエルの証言と行動。 結局は自殺なのか他殺なのか事故なのかわからないまま、ダニエルの証言によって判決が決まることになる。 それを託されたダニエルの心境を考えると辛い。 裁判所で自分の親の夫婦喧嘩を聞かされ、母親の過去の女性問題を聞かされ、そんな中で、父と母どちらを信用すべきかダニエルは冷静に考える。 そしてダニエルの愛犬スヌープによって、父親が自殺だったかもしれないという可能性も強くなる。 ダニエルが愛犬スヌープに、父親が常習していた睡眠薬を飲ませる実験をするんだけど、その時に睡眠薬を摂取し過ぎたスヌープが気絶するシーンは本当に怖かったし、どうやって再現したのかと思ったけど、実際にイヌが演技をしたらしく、そのスヌープを演じた犬には、カンヌ映画祭で犬の最優秀名演賞に贈られる「パルムドッグ賞」を受賞したそうです🏆 その名犬スヌープの検証によって、ダニエルは父親を自殺する傾向にあったように証言する事になる。 結果サンドラは無罪になった訳だけど、結局真実ははっきりとわからないまま映画は終わる。 判決後にすぐにダニエルのいる家に帰らず、検事と一杯飲んでから帰る姿を見ると、やっぱり自分の子供よりも自分のことが大事な母親なのかな?って思ってしまうシーンもあったり、それでも息子と再会するシーンでは涙が出るし、母親として、妻として、女性として、サンドラの局面を色々な角度から掘り下げる事で、真実がどんどん見えなくなる難解な人間ドラマでした！ もう一回見て整理したい。 スヌープ役の犬の演技は本当に迫真なので是非見てほしいです🐕 是非見た人と、これってこういう事だよね?って意見を語り合いたいです。 BGMは、オープニングにしつこく家でかかっている50セントのPIMPのインストが頭から離れなくなったやつ。 #落下の解剖学 #AnatomyofaFall #Anatomied’unechute #ジュスティーヌトリエ 監督 #サンドラヒュラー #スワンアルロー #ミロマシャドグラネール #moviefreaks #moviegoers #filmgeek #cinephile #cinema #movie #film #USC #uscalumni #映画 #映画好き #映画大好き #1人映画部 #映画館 #映画鑑賞記録 #映画評論 #勝手に映画評論 #映画レビュー #映画評論家 #LiLiCo さん #おすぎ #淀川長治 さん #さよならさよならさよなら @anatomy_of_a_fall_uk

I went and saw the film "Civil War" this morning. I absolutely loved it! Civil War is a poignant thought-provoking thriller that is as relevant as ever. This film has some of the most choatic anxiety-inducing sequences I've seen in years. It's incredibly intense, visceral, and has some great sound design. The terrific script by director Alex Garland is powerful and really delves into the ambiguous and immoral nature of war. The horrors of it are completely displayed in shocking fashion and goes into the psychological impact of it. It also deals with some very real-life ripped from the headlines topics. It's a real eye opener that takes no sides besides the human side. The film is about a road trip across America with four military journalists on the way to D.C. The film is pensive and heartfelt with how it approaches these broken yet relateable characters who are trying to find that perfect shot. The film is filled with a ominous tension that you can't help but feel mirrors our society. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny in phenomenal and absolutely heart-wrenching performances. The film has some fantastic supporting performances from Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, and Nelson Lee. The cinematography by Rob Hardy is excellent. The film is expertly edited by Jake Roberts, accompanied by a cool, effective score by Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury. The art direction, set decoration, costume design, and production design is superb. Alex Garland did a brilliant job directing this exhilarating, haunting, and easily one of the most important films in years. Reviewing Little Monsters; I just watched this and it’s good. As for the storyline After Dave joins his nephews class and teacher miss Caroline on a school trip but it turns into a survival when zombies are on the loose and they they need to protect the kids. As for the cast I liked Lupita Nyongo Alexander England and others good too. Overall it’s a good action funny film i enjoyed it. One of my favorite B-movies from the fifties: "Teenagers from Outer Space" (a.k.a. The Gargon Terror (UK title), The Boy from Outer Space, and originally titled The Ray Gun Terror) is a 1959 American independent film released by Warner Bros. The film became a cult classic among science fiction fans over the years. 👉🏼 One notable aspect of the film is that it was largely the work of a single person, Tom Graeff, who, in addition to playing the role of reporter Joe Rogers, wrote, directed, edited and produced the film, on which he also provided cinematography, special effects and music coordination. 📌 The digipack edition I have is from 2007 and was published by L'Atelier 13.

Reviewing Speed; I just watched this and it’s a classic. As for the storyline after policemen Jack and Harry save people from a bomb on a lift and believe that the bomber is dead he returns and bombs a bus and has another one on a bus that will blow up if goes over 50mph and it’s down to Jack to stop it. As for the cast I really liked Keanu Reeves Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper and others good too. Overall it’s a brilliant action packed film with tension. 📽️ Evil Dead 🍺 @twicebrewedbrewco Deadite - DIPA It had been 21 years since we had an evil dead movie and when this one came round, I was worried, horror ‘requels’ were the fashion and many of them were not so great, cheap cash ins, this one, however, was a nasty 90 minute thrill ride, akin the the first instalment, it was heavy on gore and toe curling effects that you can almost feel as you watch it, the tongue scene especially makes me wince, but I can’t take my eyes off it. It’s very entertaining. Lots of laughs. It’s absurd. You can tell they made it with the “if you Don’t like it, not my problem attitude” and did their thing. A mix of live-action silent film, classic cartoons, animation, and some CGI. People dressed up as animals. I don’t think you will ever see anything like this ever! No beavers were harmed in the making of this film. I can’t say for certain those dressed up as beavers. Immaculate (2024) Immaculate follows a young nun named Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney) who has discovered that she’s pregnant despite her vow of chastity upon joining a convent. The film grows more sinister as Cecilia learns her pregnancy is part of the convent’s larger plan and she will be forced to bear the child at all costs. Unfortunately, the film falls into a formulaic pattern and suffers from a lack of originality. Every plot point, every line of dialogue, every action was predictable. While the story explores an almost “evil scientific” subplot with intrigue, it only skims the surface, leaving much to be desired. Sweeney’s commitment to her one-take wonder ending scene makes up one of the best performances in the film, but other than that, all of the acting sums up to a forgettable experience. Aside from lackluster writing, drab acting, and little character development, the film is elevated by its ominous, candle lit cinematography and the beautiful ecclesiastical aesthetics. With visuals like that, anything would surely fool audiences into thinking it’s a well-written masterpiece. The editing, sound, original score, and special effects are all honorable mentions. Overall, Immaculate doesn’t push any boundaries and fails to flesh out any of its nuanced ideas.
