Aberfeldy, Tomatin, the Speyside Cooperage, Cardhu, Benromach, Glen Grant, Aberlour, Glenfarclas, Tomintoul, and Lindores Abbey all chalked up on the trip, we can say emphatically that we have done our due diligence in our yearly trip. 🏴 Aberfeldy x Finca Ambrosia 🇦🇷 El Malbec Cask Finish de 21 años es el último lanzamiento de la colección Wine Cask de la destilería Highland. El whisky se maduró en barricas ex-bourbon y ex-jerez, antes de terminarse durante 8 meses en barricas de roble francés que anteriormente contenían vino tinto Viña Única de Finca Ambrosia. Su Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod y el enólogo de Finca Ambrosia, Daniel Pi, seleccionaron las barricas utilizadas para el acabado. Macleod dijo: "Este delicado pero complejo final de barrica de Finca Ambrosia se abre con notas intrigantes de cereal dulce tostado, salvia herbácea y toques de romero. I only took photos of architectures and bronze sculpture of John Dewar. I couldn't do anything even though I was so looking forward to visiting. I was sure to see you in next time !

Beginning in 2019, Aberfeldy launched a series of limited edition finished malts, the most recent addition being this week’s new release: The Aberfeldy 21 Finca Ambrosia Malbec cask. The team at Aberfeldy Distillery, seated at the geographic heart of Scotland, is led by the multiple award-winning Malt Master of Dewars, Stephanie Macleod. Aberfeldy is generally known for producing a smooth, accessible, well-rounded blend. However, this dram offers a rather unique flavour profile, drawing from the French oak casks and the Argentinian Uco Valley wines they held. Each cask held three separate vintages of Malbec for nearly 15 months, lending juicy red fruit and floral notes to the spicy, nutty contributions from the oak. Nose: Vanilla-coated raisins and a warm hit of nutmeg. Palate: Some cinnamon spice meshes with cherry notes followed by a smoother, well-rounded honey and vanilla finish. Final Thoughts: It’s an enticing dram, quite unusual, and all the better for it! 🥃 Aberfeldy Distillery 🥃 Just a snapshot of a trip to Aberfeldy to enjoy the launch of the 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish. It was a trip of wine as much as whisky and one that was enlightening for a complete wine novice such as myself. But everybody was selfless with their knowledge, their time, and their pours. What I do know is, the whisky tastes good. It tastes better with great company, which is what we had. We stayed in the wonderful Dun Aluinn, whose keepers couldn't do more for you. We ate fine Scottish food from Ballintaggart Farm. We toured a great Scotch whisky distillery, explored the Birks of Aberfeldy, and roamed the landscape on a Highland Safari. We drank Finca Ambrosia Argentinian wine and Aberfeldy whisky. Not bad for a Tuesday. A huge thanks to all who made it happen and to those who joined me along the way. Aberfeldy 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish tasting note: Nose: Raspberry puree, red grapes, and sage kick things off in a decidedly vinous direction, backed by delicate rose and parma violet. Vanilla, buttery pastries, and honey keep things creamy and very Aberfeldy, with a deep and warming orange citrus note as well as a hint of almond adding depth to the aroma. There’s a kind of blueberry syrup on-pancakes vibe to this nose. Palate: Some wine finishes are sharp and tannic on the first sip but this isn’t, it’s deep and waxy with a mouth-filling texture. The palate leads with black cherry, stewed plums, and blackberry, with dark chocolate, cinnamon, orange peel, and herbaceous tobacco in support. Visited Aberfeldy last week for the launch of their 21 Year Old Malbec Cask Finish, created with casks from Argentinian winery Finca Ambrosia. Tasted some past wine cask releases with Malt Master Stephanie Macleod, went on a Highland safari that culminated in a tasting of a distillery-exclusive Exceptional Cask release finished in Scottish oak, and explored the Birks of Aberfeldy.
