Helmcken Falls - Wells Gray Provincial Park It was unreal to finally see it in person, the park itself was. There was a particular shot I was hoping to get of Helmcken falls but it didn’t quite work out. The stars didn’t align…. Literally. We spent hours there over the weekend. Sunset, sunrise and even ended up sleeping in the car park so that I could try and get that one shot of the milky way above the falls. At Sunset it was difficult with the dynamic range of light along with the falls themselves being within the shadows of the surrounding rock. I captured this using bracketed exposure so id have more to play with in the edit. Even then it didn’t turn out how Id hoped. During the night the cloud moved in and covered the falls, the milky way was just about visible but not enough. It also wasn’t in line with the falls like I had hoped. Sunrise brought more cloud and no “sunrise”. There was a partly sleepless and spooky night wondering through the woods making lots noise to let any bears know we were out. Lots of standing around in the cold. Some disappointment but ultimately just seeing it was worth all of it. Just a glimpse of what sometimes goes into a photo… I want to get better, be better and put in maximum effort always.
